Morgan was getting tired he had no idea how much longer he could keep pressure on the knife wound. "Yes that's my horse Aim he was stolen from me by the outlaws" Morgan said answering Fernella's question. He was focused on saving this ladies life she deserved to live much more then he did. He was brought back to the first time he met Bud riding a sturdy grey mustang with a brand. He was in his teen years by that time he wasn't a trouble marker just liked danger. "Hey kid come with me want to do something fun" Bud had said to him a few days later he had became a pro horse theif and could steal any horse. He tried to ignore tears that were now falling down his face, he had to be strong for Aim and this mystery ladies sake. He was now seeking revenage against Bud the man that destroyed his new life and the outlaw gang that had hurt this lady. "Morgan are you alright ..I thought men were born tough not brittle like a worn down bridle" Fernella said with a touch of humor. He replied quickly "Just fine Fernella I just want to chase these men who had hurt the lady and stolen my horse" Morgan said his voice was firm, he was a man on the warpath now nothing could change his mind.

(We can skip to when Avalynn wakes up)
The light was getting brighter as she got closer to it. She looked down and noticed that she was wearing a white dress that was flowing behind her. It had been a long time since Avalynn had worn a dress. With each step, Avalynn could feel herself fading. She wanted to walk towards the light as she thought she heard the sound of her grandmother calling her.
"Avalynn, this way..." her grandmother announced from the bright light.
Avalynn could feel a warmth as she got closer to the light. But she stopped as she turned to see herself on the ground. Something told her that she still had things to do in her life. But part of her said that the lie about her being dead would finally be true. Shaking her head, Avalynn finally made a decision that she needed to stay. There was still things that she needed to do. And things she needed to answer to. She turned around and headed towards her body.
Waking up, Avalynn looked around the room that she was in. It felt warm and welcoming as the drapes above her gently flowed in the light breeze that came in from the window above her bed. For a moment, Avalynn thought that she was in her room back in Texas and that everything that had happened to her had all been a dream. She was wearing a white nightgown as she tried to sit up. But there was a slight pain on her right side as she sat up. She hissed through her teeth as she laid back down. Her body was still sore, but Avalynn had not known how long she had been unconscious for. She was not even sure where she was. She remembered that when she was loosing consciousness, she could hear another voice of a woman and Morgan.

Fernella would look at the lady "Hey Morgan she is coming around" Fernella said she had made sure that the lady was warm after they had sealed the knife and the gunshot wound. She looked towards Bandit and the other horse which might be the ladies horse "I am going to take care of the horses Morgan you stay by her side" Fernella said as she would greet Bandit and the other horse. She had packed just enough food for both horses it wasn't much but it would have to do. She laughed as Bandit sneaked a bite of dried apple she gently scolded him telling him he had to share his food with the other horse. She dropped just enough for the two horses to have energy for the day. She looked back at the lady she had been in the saloon with Morgan, she was sure of it but she didn't know her name. She could read Morgan's face like a poker hand, he missed his horse. Like Bandit was to Fernella, Aim must be to Morgan like a freind. She silently made a promise she would search for the black quarter horse but maybe when the lady was well enough.

Morgan would stay by the woman's side "How are you feeling" he said his voice was full of kindness and compassion. He tried to ignore the pain he was feeling both from his healing gunshot wound and the loss of his companion Aim. He smiled seeing Fernella scold her horse he used to do that with Aim when he was still learning to trust him. He would love to get Aim back but not right now they were not out of the woods his house had supplies they would need but the fire had destroyed it along with the small stable where the horses could go. " I would say I could get us some food but I have none that fire destroyed most of my supplies" Morgan said looking at the burnt remains of his home and the small stable. One thought kept entering his mind now where would he live he had no home to speak of nor a stable for his horse. He looked to see Fernella coming in his direction. "Were going to go to my ranch I am taking the lady on her horse. Morgan you can ride Bandit he should be alright with you I saw you making freinds" Fernella said, as they left towards Fernella's ranch he took one look back at his property.

Avalynn was confused as to what had happened and where she was. She stayed quiet for a moment as she looked around the room. It had been a while since she had been in such a nice room. Last time she remembered a room so nice was her room back home on her families ranch. Avalynn tried to sit up. But a sudden sharp pain appeared, which caused her to hiss through her teeth. Laying down was the better option. "Where am I?" Her voice was almost a whisper as she tried to figure out where she was. Where was Grace? Was she okay? Did anyone take her? Was she hurt? But also, how did she get into this room? There were so many questions that she needed answered. But the pain was starting to take over as she moved around.

Fernella would check on Rina the girl who had gotten shot "Hey Fernella how is that lady doing" Rina asked. She would look at Rina " well she came out from being unconscious so I would say she is on the long road to recovery" Fernella said back. "Rina would you mind checking on the horses I am going to make us a meal goodness knows we all need our strength for the days ahead" Fernella said. She would watch Rina take off towards the stable. So far she has proven to be amazing at taking care of the ranch and the horses. If she could find Rina's parents she would love to tell them that Rina was safe, but for now she was going to care for her and help her on her path whatever that might be. She went to work on making the meal but she couldn't stop thinking about Aim, Morgan's quarter horse she had to find him for his sake. She could see the sadness on his face it was like he was only half there, Bud must have really shattered him. She hated that man how could Morgan have ever worked for a man like him only to be shot.

Morgan would talk to the lady "Relax your safe were at Pine creek ranch, Fernella the lady who helped me save your life owns this ranch. Your horse Grace is safe she is in the stables with Bandit Fernella's horse, she has stable hands patrolling the stables to ensure the horses safety. I carried you here into this room, Fernella had the room made for your arrival" Morgan said. He could see the pain reflected in her eyes " you get some rest the knife and gunshot wound took a lot out of you i'm suprised you even made it this far with your wounds" he said, before leaving the room and leaving her to get some rest. He really liked her but wasn't it too soon to fall in love, I mean he was still a criminal hardly trustworthy around anyone. He sat down in a chair just outside the room where the lady was, he was her protector at least he felt like he owed her that much after watching her get shot and stabbed by the outlaws.

Once Morgan had left, Avalynn threw the blankets off her as she tried to get up. For a moment, the pain was unbearable. She did not scream out as she did not want to rile up any suspicion should there be anyone outside her door. She found her clothes and began to change back into them. It took longer as she had to stop as she pulled her boots on as she had to bend over. But she muffled a few curses as she bent over. She had to find a few new pieces of clothing since the shirt had a hole in them from where she was shot and stabbed. She quickly grabbed her holster and pulled it around her waist and tightened the buckle. Her guns were set next to the holster, and quickly returned them to their spots. Once her hair was braided, she grabbed her hat and placed it on her head. With one look in the mirror, Avalynn nodded before opening the door and stepped out, ready to find James and the others.

Fernella finished making the meal and walked towards where the lady was only to find that she was trying to leave. Which wasn't a good idea with her wounds "whatever you have in mind don't do it your not well enough for long rides yet, at least eat the meal I have prepared" Fernella said. She didn't approve of the ladies behavior but she understood it. She saw Morgan sitting in a chair just outside the room, maybe he could convice her better to stay until the wounds were almost fully healed. She put the plate of food down on a small table in the room and gave Morgan some food as well.

Morgan would eat the meal that Fernella made he ate it the meal tasted better then any meal he could make. It was then that he saw a teen girl coming towards the room, "What do you think your doing" he said being stern but not angry. "I just want to check on the lady I'm Rina we haven't met" the teen said. He nodded his head "Morgan is my name and I think we should let her be for now she might be overwhelmed if you enter her room" he said politely. He looked at Rina where had he seen her before, she looked real familler wasn't she a runaway from a wealthy family in Texas.

"I can't stay...here while...James is out...there..." Avalynn hissed through the pain. "I need to...kill that son...of a..." but Avalynn stopped as she fell to her knees in pain. She held onto herself as she tears came to her eyes. But part of her knew that Fernella was right. She needed to stay and rest. She could feel with every breath that her abdomen hurt. She was taking it too fast and needed to rest. But James was out there. She had a feeling he had survived his gunshot. She then wrapped an arm around Fernella so that she could guide her back to the bed. Just a few days rest and then she was back in the saddle. She had to search for James and the gang again. But she knew that he was nearby somewhere. The food smelled good as well. Maybe it would not be a bad idea to stay and have some food. It was better than the rations that she had stolen from a military train. Then she thought of Grace. "Where is Grace!? Tell me she is okay!"

Fernella would guide the lady back to the bed and tell her that Grace was safe in her stable. She moved the table closer to her "Grab something to eat I don't want anybody thinking I starve my guests" she said with a touch of humor. Maybe she would calm down if she could see Grace she called for one of her ranch hands. "Bring her horse to a pasture near this room" she said and watched him leave to do as she had asked. She then had a flashback to her and Bandit sleeping under the starlit sky he had stayed by her side like the loyal horse she knew he was. There was a moment when she had been seprated from Bandit that was when she had run a dangreous fever and was banned from riding Bandit until it had passed. That had been so tramuatizing for Bandit that the first time she was well enough, he bucked her off as if sulking like a child that had been neglected for days on end. It took five days for Bandit to trust her again she promised herself whatever happened someone would care for Bandit.

Morgan would get up and enter the room " I need to look for Aim it has been a day since he has been missing I can't wait any longer I need my horse" he said to Fernella. "I know Morgan I'm working with other ranches in the area to try and find him I have already alerted the law to look for your horse" Fernella said. Morgan hugged Fernella " Thank you ..how is she doing" Morgan said to Fernella, "Well she is still pretty rough looking but I say maybe in three days she will be well enough to ride" Fernella said. He sat down in a chair near by the bed, he still didn't know the lady's name but the horse's name sounded familer to him. The horse's owner was a lady called Avalynn was it possible this was her in that very bed.

Avalynn struggled for a moment to sit up in bed due to the pain. But she forced herself to do so and reached over to the food that was on the table. It was delicious as she ate. Better than the rations she was eating at this time. Avalynn could not help but look at Morgan for a moment. She understood how she felt about him loosing his horse. If she lost Grace, she would not know what to do. After she finished her food and took a drink of some fresh cold water, she finally spoke to Morgan. "I don't think I told you my name. It's Avalynn Marshall. I think I did not tell you it because I knew it was just going to be a short meeting between you and I. But...I can help you find your horse. At least once I am ready to get out of this darn bed." Avalynn hated being cooped up in the same place for too long. She lived to travel the open range and discover new things. But, it was kind of nice being in a comfy bed. It reminded her of growing up back on Twin Rivers Ranch. Every morning her father would wake her up with a kiss on the cheek after he had finished taking care of the horses and a few chores around the ranch. Then they would spend time together before Avalynn had to go to school with her brother. Those were the days that Avalynn wanted to remember for the rest of her life. Not the part where she was forced to marry someone she did not love.

Fernella would leave Morgan and Avalynn to talk. She exited the house and went to the stables to check on Bandit and Rina's horse they both seemed happy but even she could tell that both of them were bored. She opened Bandit's stall and petted him then she put on a handmade halter she had made and put on a lead rope, she lead Bandit outside and into the pasture. She didn't turn him out with Grace fearing either one of them would bolt or get hurt. She then turned out Woody and Outlaw who was Bandit's younger brother, no one seemed to want Outlaw so she kept him as a extra ranch horse. She watched Bandit greet them both before she turned out Rina's horse. They seemed happy to be outside, she was glad the horses seemed alright. It was then that out of nowhere a wild mare appered she didn't seem afraid of Fernella, it was then that she saw rope burn on the mare's neck. She shook her head "where did you come from " she said speaking in a soft voice so as to not spook the injuried wild mare. Was it possible this mare came to her for a reason she was a pretty chestnut with a diamond shaped star and one white rear left sock.
