Ruby awoke as the sun shone on her pelt the next morning. She stood up and then trotted to the gate to wait for Emily so they could begin their training for the morning. Ruby let out a neigh when Emily didn’t show up. She pranced nervously as she looked around wildly. Where was Emily?? Why hadn’t she come for training yet?? Ruby trotted the edge of the fence and looked around. The village seems to just be deserted. Ruby blinked as her legs began trembling. She gazed around again and suddenly took off in a gallop, glancing around wildly. She had to find Velvet. The only other mother she knew, and Ruby had no idea where Velvet was. Ruby felt her heart beginning to pound harder as her legs were now trembling harder as well. Ruby felt her nerves sparking higher as she galloped faster. “VELVET?!?” Ruby neighed loudly as her ears were pinned in nervousness. “Velvet, where are you?” Ruby called louder. Her heart was pounding so hard now as she looked for her best friend.

Velvet's head rested on the soft grass. She could feel the morning sun soaking into her coat. It was time to get up. Slowly, she opened her eyes. Why did it feel so hard this morning? She pushed herself to her hooves and shook out her coat with a heavy sigh and a snort, then hazily looked around. What she saw made her eyes widen. Where on earth was she? She looked about in surprise, yet calmly. IT was a pasture with a tall fence surrounding it, and it overlooked the village, and, with relief, the barn. She let out a sigh, pricking her ears as she listened for any sounds of humans. Surely they'd come to pick them up and take them back. But no sound was heard. In fact... it was deathly silent. Her eyes widened as she raised her muzzle to the air, scenting. Nothing. They were gone. Her heart pounded slightly. Michelle was her first thought. Where was she? What could have happened? A hazy memory suddenly surfaced. "I'm so sorry my sweet mare... this is for the best.. you'll understand" the voice of her owner sent a pang of loneliness through her as she opened her eyes. Her owner had left her here. Why? Before she could begin to puzzle it out, a high pitched familiar whinny pierced the quiet air, and she spun. Ruby? Ruby was here! She let out a deep whinny, picking up a trot to find the young mare she'd taken under her wing so to speak. "I'm here Ruby!" Velvet called in a deep nicker, her eyes searching for Ruby's powdered coat.

Virgil would look around for his owner, waiting for there daily morning ride, but he noticed that no sounds could be heard besides them in the pasture. He noticed the two mares at the far end of the pasture but decided not to talk with them, at the moment he was still trying to figure out why he was here and not in the large stall made for him in the royal barn. Then he remembered someone leading him outside the royal barn and into a pasture, and then removing his beautiful halter that went beautifully with his dark bay sabino coat and the lead rope that matched the halter, and then leaving him be in the pasture and locking it and leaving him. He was probably the only horse of the royal family who was left behind, as he noticed that all the other royal horses were gone and he could not hear the soft neighs of Eve echoing through the barn, the beautiful black fresian mare was his only friend in the barn, the other horses had hated him for some reason. He missed hearing her soft neigh in the morning, but this time a different sort of neigh caught his attention. It seemed like a mare was calling to the other one, he stayed away but close enough in case he was needed for some reason. He noticed both mares seemed to know each other, but they didn't seem to notice him at all, which was fine as he was not a attention seeker in any way shape or form. He was sure to them he looked very out of place, being a heavy draft horse, compared to the two light riding horses who were both mares, and far faster than he would ever be.

Ruby's ears pricked up ever so slightly and she looked around. She had heard Velvet, but couldn't see her. She began trotting towards the sound of her friend, neighing hear and there to see if she'd get a response whinny from Velvet. She did a few times, and finally, when the outline of Velvet came into view, Ruby picked up a gallop and dashed for her. Her legs were still trembling by the time she slowed and reached her friend....instantly pressing herself against her. "Velvet, where are we? Where are our humans? Why are we here?" Ruby asked, eyes wide with fear as she noticed one of the royal horses a few distances away. Her attention turned back to Velvet. "And...And where are Dixie and Honeysuckle?" She asked as she looked around for her childhood friends. "Did they not come with us?" She asked. "Where even are we?" She asked again. "Velvet, I'm scared" Ruby said

Velvet was already breathing slightly hard as she sped up her pace, her limbs still strangely heavy as she searched for the mare. Her ears pricked again as she caught another neigh, lifting her muzzle and letting out a breathy whinny. Finally the mare appeared over the small hill, and pinned her ears, racing in a mad dash towards her. Already Velvet could see her slim legs trembling, sweat made of nervousness rolling down her neck. "Oh my dear I'm here, It's going to be ok." she soothed in a no nonsense tone as she hugged the mare, who was spouting dozens of questions in fear. "I can see the barn from here, we're not too far off. I do not know where our owners are they... i think they had to leave us" she said, ears almost flattening before she remembered she needed to stay strong for the younger horse. "I've only found you so far" she said softly as she nuzzled her, then let out a calming breath, nuzzling her forelock. "It will be ok, we're together, it will be ok" she soothed, then looked up and around. Her eyes suddenly caught sight of a dark coated large horse in distance. His coat was almost the same as Ruby's and he was watching them with an expressionless gaze. Her experienced eyes swiftly assessed him. The stance in which he took, the bearing of his head and the placement of his perfectly shining hooves all told her he must come from the royal barn. Why he was here... that was another matter. His breed also was much different than her own, or even Ruby's, but she recognized it from many other parades she had done, and she knew this majestic draft breed was to be recognized for it's strength. "Ruby my dear, we aren't alone here, there is a stallion back there. I think it best if we speak with him, he seems to come from the royal barn, as much as I can tell, perhaps he knows more?" she suggested.

Virgil would watch the two mares he noticed that they seemed to notice he was there, he curiously swiveled a ear in there direction but didn't really listen to them talking. He was still looking around for Eve or any of the other royal horses but it was clear they had left him for some unknown reason. He cautiously trotted closer to them being weary of there expressions and ear movement. As he grew closer he noticed they were friends as soon as the older mare seemed to calm the younger one. He looked away letting them share a private moment as he continued to look around for any signs of the humans or horses. But other then some faint hoofprints on a trail leading away from the pasture, there was nothing. he looked at the mares and spoke in a voice that sounded like it belonged to royalty it's self, "I know nothing more about this then you do at the moment. The royal barn was empty when someone fetched me and put me in here" he spoke to the mares as if he knew exactly what they were going to ask him before they did.

Ruby looked at Velvet in shock as she said that they were not alone. She jumped when the stallion spoke to them. Naturally, she began walking backwards ever so slightly and hid herself behind Velvet. No, Ruby wasn't the shy type of horse, but right now she was really jumpy, which meant she tended to be a bit more cautious than normal, especially with horses she had never met before. She flattened her ears in slight panic as the stallion came closer to them. Ruby pressed against Velvet as her trembling started up once more, she blinked the blurriness out of her eyes and stared at the stallion. "D....Do you think....they'll come...back?" Ruby stuttered a little bit as Velvet began to comfort her again. Ruby blinked and pressed her self even harder against Velvet. Ruby had never met a stallion in her entire life, so meeting one face to face...was quite strange and a little bit scary as it was all so new to her. It was at this moment, that Ruby wished she was back in the dry lot beside Velvet's stall, feeling the safety of the barn, the calming voice of Emily, the sweet scent of hay, the sweet taste of grain, and the refreshing cool water in her bucket.

Velvet swished her tail calmingly as she allowed the mare to press against her, although the irony that the much taller appaloosa was hiding against her stocky body was not lost on her. As the stallion approached, she held herself confidently, her eyes calm as she watched him. His manner as he strode towards them was full of importance and pomp. She knew this type, young and confident, sure they owned the world. She flicked an ear slightly as she suppressed an amused smile from her muzzle. And then he spoke, his voice like the material she was named after as he looked down at them with an almost vacant air, his manner cool and very VERY Royal. This time Velvet couldn't help the twitch in the corner of her mouth. "Well then, that is unfortunate that you did not notice more of use. My owner drove me from that barn just a ways off, and they gave me some strange paste in my bucket with my grain. When I arrived, my limbs felt like dead weights, and I fell asleep immediately, so I believe it was some sort of drug, to make the move easier for me" she said sensibly. "My owner also said some mysterious phrases, which I believe could help us to discover what has occurred here." she said, then glanced back to the mare shivering behind her. "Calm yourself my filly." she nickered in a low soothing tone, as a mother to a foal. "I don't know if they will, but for now we have to assume we're on our own" she said as gently as she could before turning back to the haughty seeming draft. "I am Velvet, this is Ruby. What would your name be?" she asked, remaining kindly in her tone.

Virgil would look at the younger mare noticing that she seemed afraid of him he then looked at the older mare, "My name is Virgil sorry if I scared you two sometimes I don't know how strong my voice is" Virgil said looking away from the younger mare who seemed scared of him, he backed up a bit and scratched a itch on his shoulder, he knew that the older mare probaly thought he was arrogant and vain having lived in the royal barn, but he wasn't like that he was very sweet and positive to every horse who knew him, he then catiously walked back over towards them keeping a distance from the younger mare, he tried to soften his voice as much as possible to not spook the younger mare, " do you think we should leave this pasture or wait a while longer, I have seen no signs of other horses or humans ever since I saw the faint hoofprints on the trail leading from the pasture" Virgil said, as he looked in the direction where the faint hoofprints were on the trail.

Ruby looked at Velvet and then back at the stallion called Virgil. She blinked at him. “I’m to young to choose. I’m only eight years old, so I can’t really decide.” Ruby admitted. Ruby gazed around. “Velvet, I’m thirsty” She said. “Is there any water around?” Ruby asked, hopefully. She sighed as she couldn’t see any. “I suppose there isn’t.” She mumbled as she gazed down at the ground. Ruby sighed. “I miss my stall” she said. “I miss the grain and hay, and water…..I’m kinda cold too” Ruby admitted as she still pinned her ears at the stallion. “I don’t trust you” she muttered.

Velvet gave him another look, then a slight shake of her head "You did not frighten us, we are simply figuring out a new situation" she said calmly, despite the fear she could feel emanating from the younger mare. She was gratified to see the large stallion step back after a moment, relaxing his posture to calm Ruby. At his question, she relaxed herself. He must not be so uppity if he could ask a question. "If you saw hoofprints, I say we follow them" she said after a moment, glancing back to the younger mare with pity as she spoke. She sounded so frightened. "It will be ok Ruby, we can figure this out. There is a bit of grass if you are hungry, but yes, the problem of no water and no true food to last us long prompts me to suggest we move" she said firmly. At Ruby's last firm statement, she nuzzled her. "We must all trust each other for now, we are the only living things I see out here" she pointed out gently.

Virgil would walk away from the mares to examine the pasture fence looking for a easy spot for them to jump, he noticed a spot where the pasture fence was weak like it had been kicked by a horse was it possible there had been horses here at one point that had escaped this place, he then trotted back over to the two mares to tell them what he found out about the pasture, he took a few steps back to make sure Ruby was comfortable with him being there, "I might have found a escape route for us there is a section of the pasture fence that is weak" Virgil said as he waited for Velvet and Ruby to speak to him about his discovery, he took a little nibble of a small section of grass he noticed that it was dry very dry like it had not rained here for quite some time, was it true that this might be the reason why the humans left them he wondered.

Ruby glanced to velvet uncertainly. “I….I guess we could try?” She asked. “But I, not going ANYWHERE today, even if we don’t have anything to eat. We need to figure out why our humans left us here to begin with.” Ruby said. “Did your human seem odd last night, Velvet?” Ruby asked, still not feeling quite comfortable with this stallion being so close to her. She gazed down at the ground and then shifted closer to Velvet again. “I remember Emily saying something to one of the other stable people, but I couldn’t exactly hear what it was” she admitted.

Velvet's ears pinned in slight disapproval as the stallion suddenly walked off without answering either of them. But she couldn't blame him, they were in quite the situation. When he returned, he did arrive with valuable information. "That certainly sounds like a plausible escape route" she agreed after a moment. "But also I agree with Ruby, we should not leap before we look. It could land us in worse trouble. Our owners put us here for a reason, and we must all put our heads together to attempt and puzzle it out." she said firmly before glancing back to Ruby, frowning. "My rider certainly acted strange, she was very very sad, and there were a lot of other humans around, I don't know if you noticed Ruby, but they had these strange coverings over their faces, and now that I think about it, I don't actually remember my rider touching me, except for that last hug she gave me, and even then it was hurried. Plus the fact that they gave me some strange substance in my feed that made me drowsy, I'm not sure what, or why, but those all seem like good clues" she said, glancing over at the stallion curiously to hear his side.
