Chloe yawned and gazed at the clock. “10:30” she read. She paused the episode of heartland she was watching and turned off the lights. Getting cozy in her bed and putting her arm on Ellie’s back. She slowly fell asleep and woke up around 9:30 the next morning. “Crap, what time do I have to be at Austin’s” she grabbed her phone and texted him. -what time do you want me coming over?- She texted. Turning on her bedroom tv as she got ready for the day. She brushed her teeth and turned off the tv, calling to Ellie to go downstairs. She opened the back door and Ellie went running out to the backyard to use the bathroom. She filled up Ellie’s food and water dish, waiting for Molly to come downstairs. She needed to get her riding clothes on soon, but she wanted to see what time she’d get there first.

Austin had been up since about 6 am and had managed to get some of his chores done when he realized that Chloe had not texted him. Around 9:30 did he finally get a text from her. Good morning. I was beginning to think that you forgot about coming over today. Be here around noon if that is possible. I should be in the barn working on reorganizing the hay loft. Just call for me and I should be down. He needed to reorganize the hay loft so that the final cut of hay could be put into the loft for the winter for the horses. He figured all the old stuff needed to be put towards the front of the loft while the new hay needed to be put towards the back. It was something that he had been putting off for a while. It needed to be done before the new hay was cut. They had several fields on the ranch that was planted with Alfalfa. And each year, his grandfather, him and the couple of ranch hands that they had would spend the day cutting and stacking the hay on trailers. It was time for the final cut of the year.

Around 10:30, Molly drove Chloe to her parents ranch where her horse was. “Trailers all ready Mols” her mom said. “Thanks mrs Allison” she said, going to the gate to whistle for beauty. She came running as usual and Chloe loaded her into the trailer. “I got your saddle” Molly said. Chloe smiled. “Here’s the address” Chloe said when molly started punching into her phone. When they got to Austin’s ranch, Chloe unloaded beauty and got her tacked up before she went to the barn. “Hold her for a sec?” Molly nodded. Chloe went to the barn and called for Austin. “Austin?” She called. She walked inside and looked around. “Hi” she said to a beautiful dapple gray. “Whats your name?” She rubbed his nose and then read the name plate. “Hello there, Prince” Chloe said, rubbing his nose. “Austin, you here?” She called, continuing to rub princes nose. “You’re a pretty boy, aren’t ya” Prince nickered and nudged Chloe slightly. She laughed.

Austin could hear Chloe call for him downstairs in the main part of the barn. Austin then pushed back the final bale of hay on top of the older bales of hay to the side. Once the new hay was here, he would have to push these back in front of the new hay bales so that they could continue to use them. "I am upstairs, I will be down in a moment," Austin announced as he took off the gloves he was wearing. He then headed down the ladder and found Chloe with his sister's horse. "I see you've found Lauren's horse. He was a good barrel racer when he was younger. Lauren has asked me to look after him for her. He is now just a horse we use for Lily when she is here sometimes," Austin announced as he walked over to the dapple grey quarter horse gelding. "Let me get Twister and get him saddled up. We can head out as soon as I am done. But I am pretty sure my Gran is going to come out here and want to meet you before we leave," Austin warned her as he walked to the tack room for his tack that he used on Twister.

“He’s adorable” Chloe said, rubbing her hand along his nose again. “I could come exercise him for you sometimes if you want” Chloe said. “But if Lauren doesn’t want me to ride him, that’s fine too” she said. Watching as Austin went to the tack room. “I’ll wait for you outside. Mollys been holding beauty for a while.” Chloe said, walking out of the barn. She stopped half way between beauty and Molly. “Let her go Mols” Chloe said. Molly knew her friends routine by now to know what she was doing. She let go of Beautys reigns. Beauty’s ears pricked forward. Chloe whistled. Beauty came trotting over to chloe. Chloe held up her hands and beauty stopped. “Good girl” chloe said, rubbing her horses neck.

After Twister was ready with his favorite saddle, Austin led the blue roan gelding out of the barn. "We can't ride Prince right now, Chloe. He is on stall rest due to a tendon injury that happened last month. Lauren came out to ride him when she noticed that he was walking kind of funny. She called the vet and found out he was lame due to a tendon injury. So, for the next few months he is on stall rest," Austin announced as he pulled the reins over Twister's head and then mounted. The quarter horse gelding stood at about 16.3 hands. He preferred taller horses. Even though they did not turn as quick as a smaller quarter horse who was 15.3 hands, he still preferred taller horses as he felt more comfortable on them. Twister shifted underneath Austin for a moment before he settled down.

Chloe mounted and patted Beauty’s neck. “See you later Mols” Chloe said. Molly waved and got back into her car and pulled out of Austin’s driveway. “I’ll race you” she said, kicking beauty into a gallop. She laughed and turned to look behind her. Austin’s as catching up. “Come on Beauty” Chloe said. A log was coming up, when beauty got close to it, she flew over it. “Good girl” Chloe said, patting her neck and slowing her down to a walk. She turned slightly. “Sorry, to fast?” She asked laughing.

Austin smiled as he watched Chloe took off on her horse. Twister was a fast quarter horse and he was able to catch up to Chloe in no time due to his long legs. Austin could feel that Twister was enjoying the run as they ran across one of the fields. He watched as Chloe jumped over a log that had fallen during a long ago storm. "Nice jump, Austin announced as Chloe finally caught up to him. He adjusted his cowboy hat as he pulled back on the reins to gather Twister's attention since he was still wanting to run some more. "Easy, boy. Relax." Twister snorted and pawed the ground again before calming down and accepting the command for a walk that Austin gave him.

“Thanks” Chloe said. “She used to be a show jumping horse before I started doing liberty work with her.” Chloe said, patting her neck. “I actually competed in a few shows on her when I was 15” Chloe said. “When we stop for the picnic, I can show you some of the liberty work we’ve done” she said turning beauty so she was walking beside twister.

Austin nodded. "Sure, I have heard of a few people doing that around here. I have never seen it in person, though." The big gelding beneath him suddenly pinned his ears back as he reached over and tried to bite Beauty. But Austin was on him with a sudden tug of the reins and a slight kick of his right heel. "Hey! Not here! You may be the king of your pasture, but here I am in charge!" Twister snorted as he kept his ears back. "Sorry about that. Twister here tends to act like a stallion at times when it comes to new horses. He also likes to show the other horses who is boss around here. That is why he was gelded. I would have loved to keep him a stallion. But he was such a handful as a yearling," Austin explained as he gave another tug on the reins. He reached down and gave Twister a pat on the neck when he put his ears forward. "Good boy, now behave like a gentleman."

Chloe walked beside him until they came to a grassy field. "does this work for the picnic?" she asked, gazing around. The area was very spacious, and there was a stream a few feet away so the horses could drink water if they needed. Chloe looked at Austin. "it also gives me enough space for my liberty work" she said, dismounting Beauty. She rubbed Beauty's nose. "good girl" Chloe said. "whenever you're ready, I'll start" she said

Dismounting from Twister and making sure that he was settled, Austin found a log to sit on that was near the stream to watch Chloe do her presentation for him of liberty training with Beauty. He had never seen it done in person before, but was excited to see what it was all about. He made sure that there was plenty of room for Chloe to perform with Beauty.

"Ok, can you hold her bridle?" she asked, taking off her tack, and placing it on the ground. "I need a really long stick." she said, gazing around. When she found a long stick, she rubbed Beauty's neck. "good girl" Chloe said. She whistled and started running. Beauty nickered and picked up a trot, following her. "good girl" Chloe said. She slowed to a walk. Put her left foot to the right and Beauty did the same with her hoof. Chloe rubbed her nose. "good girl" she said, doing the other side. Beauty did the same. She started running again, Beauty close behind her. "woah." she said. Beauty stopped. Chloe held her arms up and backed away from Beauty. Beauty watched her, knowing what was coming. She then swung her arms down and Beauty came cantering towards her. Throwing her arms up, Beauty reared and neighed. "yes!" Chloe said. "good girl" then, she tapped Beauty's front leg and Beauty bowed. Chloe tapped it again and Beauty lay down on the grass. Chloe rubbed her neck. "Good girl" she said. "alright, up" Beauty stood up and shook her pelt off. "well?" Chloe asked, taking her bridle from Austin and putting it back on Beauty before she put the tack back on. "what did ya think?" she asked

"That was amazing. Seems like you are a good trainer," Austin said as he handed Chloe her bridle. He then leaned into Chloe and smiled. "Now we just need to get you riding western. Maybe I can help you with that." He chuckled as he took a step back. One thing that he wanted to show her was that he like to ride bulls as well. But he was not sure how Chloe would take to that. It had been a while since he had last rode one, but when he was not flying or training horses on his time of a few years ago, he would enter rodeos where he would do cattle steer wrestling, cattle roping, and bull riding. "I would let you ride Twister...but he is very particular on who rides him. I have another mare that you can ride."

"I don't know about western" Chloe said. "I've tried it before...my dad taught me on Beauty. But it wasn't me who didn't like it, it was Beauty." she said. "She doesn't like the saddle or the saddle pad." Chloe said, helping to lay out the blanket onto the grass. She sat down and looked inside. "what did you pack?" she asked jokingly. "Molly thinks I should enter her in a rodeo because apprently they have liberty work now. But, I don't think we're ready for that. I mean, you and Molly are the only people who have ever seen me do Liberty work with Beauty." she thought for a second. "hey, maybe you could get Lauren and Lily out here sometime, and I can put a little show on for them. That way, I can start getting used to the idea of a crowd" she said
