Austin nodded as he looked at Chloe's mother. "He was a nice guy. From the times I have spent in the cockpit. He used to talk about his daughter all the time. I didn't realize that it was Chloe he was talking about. He is surly going to be missed and talked about all over the country as he has impacted many peoples lives." It was then that he felt a tap on his shoulder and then the voice of someone he knew.
"Austin, do you have a minute? We need to talk," the voice of First Officer Jake Cummings announced. Jake was Austin's best friend who he like to work with when they flew together. He was stationed out of Newark.
Austin nodded. "Excuse me, ladies. First Officer Cummings needs to speak to me." He then followed the other pilot to another area that was not so crowded.
"We have a problem. I saw your brother, Jason on my flight this morning from Newark. He was sitting in First Class and it seems that he may be in town right now," Jake announced.
"What does that bastard want now?" Austin asked, his jaw clenching in anger at the mention of his older brother.
"I don't know. I was able to talk to the lead flight attendant who was talking to him. She said that he was talking about buying some property out in Fredericksburg. He said something about your grandfather as well. But he kept a little secretive about it," Jake announced as he kept his voice low.
Austin cursed under his breath. "He is up to something. I was hoping to never see the bastard again. I have a feeling he is going to try to buy the ranch to tear it down or something," Austin said in an upset tone. He then shook his head as he was not sure what to feel. Anger or frustration? "If he steps foot on the ranch, I don't know what I am going to do."

Chloe overherd some of Austins conversation, but she didn't say anything to him. She held Ellie in her arms and Molly was standing beside her. She looked over at Austin. "whats up with him?" she asked. Chloe shrugged. "don't know" she said simply, gazing back over to where her fathers casket had been. She sighed. "I'm going to take Ellie outside." she said. Molly nodded and watched as Chloe left the building with Ellie. Chloe passed Austin on the way out, but he didn't seem to notice her. When she got outside, she set Ellie down on the grass and held her leash. "you were a good girl in there" Chloe said to Ellie as Ellie sniffed the grass, finding a spot to do her business. Chloe pet Ellie behind her ears and sat down on the ground with her

"Are you sure it was him?" Austin asked as he looked at Jake.
"Oh yeah, it was him for sure. I was able to look at the passenger manifest this morning. It said "Jason Woods" on there," Jake said as he nodded. "And don't forget the time I lived out here for a while in high school. I will never forget his face."
Again, Austin cursed under his breath as he clenched his jaw again. He then pulled out his phone to see if he had any messages from his grandparents saying that Jason had stepped foot on the ranch. Or even called them. Austin would make sure to walk out of the room or not pay attention when his brother called his grandparents. He was the same when Lauren would tell him about the calls his brother made to her. It was more disinterest. She understood that Austin wanted nothing to do with Jason. "Hopefully it is a quick visit and he get's his ass out of here. Or else I am going to be kicking it across the country back to New York. I don't even know what I am going to do if he is ever on one of my flights, either."
"That is a day I never want to see," Jake sighed.

Molly joined Chloe outside after a while. "ready to go?" she asked. Chloe nodded and stood up. "Austin is still talking to that captain, why don't you leave him a note on his truck" Molly suggested, as she handed her a piece of paper and a pen. "ok" Chloe said, handing Molly Ellie's leash. The note read. -got a ride home with my mom, call me later/come by the house. XoXo- Chloe. Chloe put the piece of paper on his windshield wiper and headed for her moms car. James was in the front seat, so Chloe and Molly got into the backseat of the car. She buckled her seat belt and put Ellie in the middle section that had a leash holder on it. Chloe buckled her seat belt and then clipped Ellie into the leash holder. Ellie lay herself down on the seat and took a long sigh. Chloe laughed and her mom started the car and pulled out of the funeral home parking lot. leash holder |

"Thanks for letting me know. I have a feeling that he is going to step foot on the ranch. I should head home after I drop Chloe off. I also have some work to do around the ranch as well," Austin said as he looked around to see if he could find Chloe.
"Isn't that the girl you have been seeing recently?" Jake asked.
"Yeah, she is something special. I asked her to take things slow. I don't want to make any mistakes like I have in the past. I don't want to be that guy anymore who sleeps around with every cute flight attendant and avoid them like the plague," Austin sighed as he looked down at the ground for a moment. That was something that he was no longer proud of now that he was seeing someone. It was a past he did not want to bring up, either. Austin then shook Jake's hand. "I'll let you know what happens. I will see you later," Austin announced as he felt like he should head out to the truck to see Chloe was there. But she was not. A note was left on his windshield saying that she had caught a ride with her mother. He sighed as he suddenly felt like an ass. He should have paid more attention to Chloe. But what Jake had brought up was important.

Chloe's mom pulled into Chloe and Molly's driveway. "thanks mom." Chloe said. "Thanks, Mrs. Andrea." Molly said, hopping out of the car with Ellie. "of course girls. Chloe, give me a call if you need anything." her mom said. "I will mom." Chloe said as she hand Molly walked inside. "Ok, so what do you say, we turn on some Dove Cameron to lighten up the mood, and maybe make some brownies." Molly suggested. "sure" Chloe said, after she put on Ellie's regular collar. Ellie went scampering to her bed and she flopped down, curling up and falling asleep. Chloe turned on the speaker and connected her phone, turning on Dove Cameron as she got the brownie ingredients ready.

Austin decided to stop by Chloe's house so that he could formerly apologize for not giving her a ride home. Pulling up to her place, Austin took off the jacket of his uniform and placed it over the back of his seat before heading up to the front door to ring the doorbell. He wondered if she was upset with him about not giving her a ride home. But he also wanted to check up on her and see how she was doing. Part of him wanted to tell her about the conversation with Jake. But the other part did not want to talk to her about it. It was all he could think about while he was driving.

Chloe was busy mixing the brownie batter and the eggs when the doorbell rang. The song playing currently was Bad Idea. "I got it" Molly said, as she walked to the front door. Ellie was fast asleep in her bed. Molly opened the door. "Oh hi, Austin." Molly said. "I'll get Chloe." Molly left the open door and headed back to the Kitchen. "Austin's here" she said. "OK" Chloe handed Molly the whisk and went to the front door. "Hey" She said. "What's up?" she asked, looking at him. Before he could answer Chloe looked at him. "no, I'm not mad at you. I wanted to catch a ride home with my mom anyways, after everything that just happened." Chloe said. "I should've told you." she said. "I'm sorry"

Before he could apologize, Chloe had told him that she was not angry, which caused him to give her a sigh a relief. "Good, because I felt like an ass for taking too long talking to Jake. It was just something important," Austin said as he looked at Chloe. "But I am glad that you left that note on my truck for me. I would have felt worse if I had left without knowing." He then took a step forward and pulled Chloe close to him as let himself kiss her. This kiss a little deeper than any other kiss that he had given her. For a moment he did not want to leave her. But he knew that he needed to get back to the ranch to take care of some business that needed attending to. "How about you come to the ranch tomorrow. You can meet my grandparents we can go on a ride together and sit by the creek for a romantic picnic."

Chloe smiled and was about to tell him not to worry about it when he pulled her in for a kiss, she put her arms around his neck. "yea" she said. "sure, that sounds great. The only thing is, I dont have a trailer, so I don't know how i'm going to get my horse to your ranch." she said, thinking about it for a minute. "hey, tell Lauren to stop by with Lily and Snow. I can bring Ellie over, and then Lily can have double the puppy play time." Chloe said. "I can see if Molly can drive Beauty to your ranch with her parents truck. They should be ok with it." she said. "CHLOEEEE" Molly called her. "molly seems to need me. I'll call you tonight." she said. She turned back and was about to head inside once more, then she turned around again. "oh what the Demons" this time, she pulled Austin close to her and kissed him. "Text me what Lauren says about the whole dog thing."

Austin chuckled after she had pulled him into a kiss. "I will call her tonight. I can not guarantee that she will be able to make it tomorrow. But I can try," Austin announced before he headed back to his truck. It had been an exhausting week for him as he had been flying more than he thought he would be. It would be best for him to get some rest before helping his grandfather with a few chores around the ranch. He also wanted to see if his bastard brother had stepped foot on the ranch when he got there. Or if Lauren had seen him.
When he got home, Maverick his border collie was outside laying by the barn when Austin pulled up. The border collie instantly got up and ran over to Austin where he placed his front paws on the floor of the truck. "Hey boy, I am sorry I have not home much the past few days. I will be home all day tomorrow. We have company coming over. Be on your best behavior." Austin announced the border collie. He then stepped out of his truck and headed inside where he changed into something a little more comfortable and let Maverick fall asleep at the edge of his bed at the foot.

Once the brownies were in the oven, Chloe looked at Molly. "I am going to take a shower." she said, heading up to her room. "I'll be down in a bit." She looked over at Ellie who was still sound asleep in her bed. Chloe went up to her bathroom and got out of her funeral outfit, taking a shower. When she got out she felt all fresh and clean. She put on some comfy clothes and then flopped down on her bed with a book. Molly knocked on her door a while later. "brownies are done." she said. Chloe closed her book and headed downstairs. "hey" she said, eating a brownie. "what do you say you and I go see a movie tommrow night? We haven't had best friend time in a while." Chloe said. "I can't" Molly said. "oh?" Chloe asked. "I'm going out with my boyfriend." she said. "right, your city boyfriend Luke." she said. Molly nodded. "sorry Clo" she said. "def some other time." chloe sighed. "ok" she said, grabbing her phone to text Austin. she had recently changed his contact name to my (hopefully) boyfriend. -hey, so, Molly is going out tommrow night, I was thinking we could hang out as well-

Austin didn't answer the message until he woke up. His pop understood just how tired he was this week and allowed for him to rest. I can check my schedule for tomorrow night. It depends on what my Pop has for me to do around the ranch tomorrow evening. We are already going to see each other during the day tomorrow. He then got up and walked to the window to look out it. He did not see any unusual vehicles that he did not recognize outside. For the rest of the evening, Austin kept himself busy with things around the ranch to get his mind off the possibility of Jason showing up. Things like bottle feeding a couple of the orphan calves and making sure that the horses stalls were clean and fed.

When it got late, Chloe said goodnight to Molly and she headed to her room. “Come Ellie” she whistled to Ellie who perked up instantly and came running to Chloe’s side. When she got to her room Chloe flopped on her bed. Molly knocked on the door. “Hey, so I just texted my boyfriend and explained that something came up. We can go to the movies tomorrow night” she said. Chloe sat up. “Cool. So what movie do you want to see?” She asked. Molly went into Chloe’s room and sat down on Chloe’s chair. “Let’s see. How about that barbie movie that everyone’s been talking about?” Molly suggested. Chloe nodded. “Ok, yea sure. It’s still in the theater which is insane cause it’s been out since July” Chloe said, yawning. “I’ll see you in the morning.” Molly nodded and hugged Chloe. “K, love you Clo” Molly said. “Love you too Mols” Chloe said. She turned on her tv and went to Netflix, turning on Heartland. She grabbed her phone and texted Austin. -see you tomorrow. ❤️❤️ Chloe- she put her phone on do not disturb and got herself ready for bed. She climbed in and padded the side. Ellie jumped up and curled up next to Chloe.

Austin did not manage to get done with his chores until it was almost 8pm. He then made it back to his place to make his dinner before heading in for the night. He managed to put his feet up on the couch as he turned on the TV to watch a few episodes of Ice Pilots with Maverick laying on the floor next to the couch. He knew that tomorrow Chloe was coming over the next day. After a few episodes, he finally made it to bed where he messaged Chloe his address to the ranch. Austin had already let his grandparents know earlier that she was coming over. His grandmother was excited about finally meeting the girl that he had been seeing over the past few days. But was it too early? He reached down and pat Maverick on the head before he decided to call it a night.
