"hi" Chloe said, holding out her hand. "I hope you don't mind Beauty being in here." she said. "I'm just waiting for my best friend to pick me up." she said. "Austin has told me a lot about you as well. Don't tell him I said this, but I am very fond of your grandson." Chloe said. "If you want to meet Beauty, I can get her. It will take me one second really." she said, turning and whistling. Beauty came galloping up to her. "good girl, Beauty." Chloe said, rubbing her nose. "This is Beauty." Chloe said. Just then, Molly came driving up the road. "oh...that must be my friend." she said, clipping on Beauty's lead rope. She opened the gate and lead Beauty out.

"She is a beautiful horse. Reminds me of my old mare, Tanya. She passed away a few years ago from old age," Elizabeth had announced as she watched the mare gallop up to her. She smiled as she gave the mare a scratch on the neck. When the unknown vehicle with a trailer pulled up, she smiled as she nodded. "It was nice meeting you, Chloe." She then went back to attend to her blankets that needed hanging.

Austin jumped out of the bed of the truck with the last bag of feed over his shoulder as he watched Molly pull up. He gave her a wave before heading into the barn to put the last bag away. Once it was put away on a shelf, he headed back out to the driveway to check on Chloe. "You are welcome to come out here anytime I am here, you know that," Austin announced as he placed his hands on her shoulders.

Chloe put Beauty into the trailer and then she grabbed her tack. She closed the trailer door and was about to get in the car when Austin came up to her. "thanks" she said, smiling and kissing him. "I'll text you when I get home." She said, hopping in the car. Molly waved to Austin and Chloe waved as well. "I wish we had a ranch" she said to Molly as she pulled out of the driveway. "oh yea?" Molly said. "yea, I love Beauty, and it would be amazing to ride her everday like Austin rides Twister everyday." she sighed. Molly looked at her. "one day, you will" she promised, holding her friends hand. When they got home later, Chloe texted Austin that she had arrived and that Beauty got back to her barn safely. "Ya know, I might be to tired to watch a movie tonight." Molly laughed. "same, Clo" she said. "Same."

Over the next few days, Austin kept busy on the ranch getting things ready for winter as it was fast approaching in a couple of months. He had gotten a lot done by the time it was ready for him to get back to flying. During that time, he had a few flights to London and then one to Norway where he had a two day layover. He was able to see the Northern Lights a few times and sent a few photos back to Chloe for her to see. He even picked up a surprise for her that he would give her the next that he saw Chloe.

He was sitting in the cockpit with First Officer Ben Jackson on his right as they began their final approach into San Antonio. It was early in the morning as Austin looked out of the cockpit when suddenly he heard an explosion. "What the Demons?!" Austin asked as he looked through the window of the cockpit back at the engine. He could see that it was on fire. "Darn it! We just lost an engine!" Austin exclaimed as he pressed the button on the yoke to communicate with ATC. "MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY! United 1544 to ATC. We have lost our left engine. We need to make an emergency landing!"

"United 1544, did i just hear you correctly? You lost an engine?" the voice of someone at ATC announced into his headset.

"Affirmative. We just heard an explosion as we are making our final approach. I am not sure what happened, but we need to make an emergency landing. Have the fire department on the runway immediately," Austin instructed ATC.

"United 1544, Emergency responders will be near the runway. Do you think you can make it to San Antonio on one engine?" ATC asked

What kind of question is that?! Of course we can! Austin thought as he shook his head. "Yes, we can make it back on...shoot!" Austin then heard the sound of the second engine exploding. "Darn it, Ben, I thought you said the engines were fine!"

"I did check them, Capitan! They were just fine! I am sure it was just a double bird strike or maybe something we could not see," Ben announced as he began to panic as Austin informed the cabin to prepare for impact if they did not make it to the runway.

He looked down at the speed and could see that the plane was losing altitude pretty fast. He knew they cold coast for miles, but the way that they were losing altitude, he had a feeling that they were not going to make it. Looking around, he thought about landing on the highway. But there was no way that they would be able to reach it time. Before they knew it, they were close to the ground on some farmland and he could feel the plane suddenly slam into the ground as he felt a sharp pain in his arm as the plane hit the ground and trees shattered the cockpit windows. A large branch suddenly went though the cockpit, slamming against Austin's head causing him to loose consciousness and a large gash on his on the side of his face.

Chloe kept looking at her phone while she was sending emails to some work clients. Nothing from Austin. She decided to text Lauren, who had given Chloe her number in case she couldn’t reach Austin. -hey, Lauren, I was wondering if Austin has texted you yet?- she sent the text and waited for a reply, leaning back in her chair as she worked on the computer. Chloe sighed. Molly came into the room. “Whats up?” She asked. Chloe flicked her pen on the ground. “Still nothing from Austin. I’m getting extremely worried” she said. Molly put her hand on Chloe’s shoulder. “He’ll be ok” Molly said. Chloe stood up. “Mols, he’s a pilot, what if something happened? What if he’s dead??” Her heart was pounding. “Dont talk like that, you have his sisters number, right?” Chloe nodded. “Then I’m sure she’ll call you if anything goes wrong” Molly said. “I promise, just relax” chloe took a breath. “Why don’t you go play fetch with Ellie in the back yard?” Molly suggested. Chloe nodded. “Ellie, come” she said, clapping her hands. Ellie came running and chloe lead her outside, her ringtone turned on her phone. She grabbed a ball and threw Ellie the ball. Taking her phone out of her pocket, still nothing from Austin or Lauren.

"Alright class, it is time for lunch," Lauren announced to her kindergarteners as she heard her phone vibrate in her purse behind her desk. She could not check it as she was busy teaching. "Line up at the door and we can head to the lunch room for lunch." The kindergarteners got up from thei

Don't worry. He is fine. He has flown a million times. So don't worry. I can give him a call in a little bit to see if he is okay. She then put her phone back into her purse and decided to head down to the teachers lounge to grab her lunch that she had put in the fridge that morning when she arrived. She then entered the teachers lounge to see that a few staff members were standing below the flat screen tv that was on the wall that was turned onto the news.

"That is so sad...i hope everyone survived," a preschool teacher announced as she looked at the news. It just showed the image of the newscaster with the words breaking news on the bottom of the screen.

"What is going on?" Lauren asked after she had grabbed her food.

"You didn't hear? There was a plane crash near San Antonio International. Hey, isn't your brother a pilot? That was not him was it?" the preschool teacher asked.

A tingle went down her spine once the preschool teacher mentioned Austin. She then heard the words "flight from Oslo to San Antonio" that made her spine tingle some more. Was it Austin? she thought when she heard that some people did not make it. She dropped her Tupperware bowl of Cesar salad when she heard that one of the United Airlines crew members had not made it. The news anchor did not specify what crew member it was as they did not have a name of who the crew were.

"Lauren...are you okay?" a gym teacher asked as he noticed Lauren who was now white as a ghost. "Lauren?"

She needed to get to her phone. She had a feeling that it was Austin's flight as she knew he was flying back from Oslo. "I have to go...Karly, can you take over for my class? It's an emergency."

"Yes, is everything alright?" Karly asked as she went to place her hand on Lauren's shoulder. "Lauren?"

"I just have to go. It is an emergency..." Lauren repeated as she ran out of the room. She got back to her classroom as she reached for her phone. She had to text Chloe. Turn on the news...I think something happened to Austin...

Chloe’s phone vibrated. “Ellie, come” she said, rushing inside. “Molly!” She called. Molly looked at her. “What?” She asked. “Turn in the news.” Molly looked at her. “Ok?” She turned on the news. Chloe looked at the tv. “Oh my god” she mumbled. Molly grabbed her hand. “One of the air…airline…members died” Chloe mumbled, almost crying. “Is..is it Austin?” Her heart was pounding. “Molly, is he dead?” Molly hugged her. “Calm down, ok.” She said. “Text Lauren and see if he’s at the hospital.” Chloe nodded, pulling out her phone. -is he at the hospital? If so, what hospital- Chloe grabbed the keys. “Chloe” Molly said. “What are you doing?” She asked. “Im either driving to the airport or the hospital.” She said. Molly blocked the door. “No, you’re not” she said. “Molly, I have to.” She said. Molly put her hand on Chloe’s shoulder. “Go” she said. Chloe hugged her. “You’ll watch Ellie?” She asked. Molly nodded. “Keep me posted!” Molly called as Chloe ran out the door. “I will!” she promised. She was crying now as she drove to the hospital and went inside instantly. She didn’t know if Lauren was there yet, but she sat down and waited. The last thing she had said to Austin was -this sight is beautiful. Thanks for sending the pictures. Lauren did not remember driving to the hospital as she felt like she was in a trance. She figured that he would be taken to the closest hospital to the airport. Once she arrived, she ran into the Emergency Room where she ran to the desk where the nurse sitting behind it looked at her.

"Has there been an Austin Woods that has come in?" Lauren asked as calmly as she could.

The nurse looked at the computer for a moment and then shook her head no. "I am sorry. No one by that name has come in," the nurse said. "Was he part of the plane crash?"

Lauren nodded as she felt her eyes fill up with tears. "Yes...he was the Capitan of the flight. Can you see if he was brought to another..." she was about to speak when she heard someone nearby being brought into the ER. She then recognized the uniform that the person was wearing as a Captain's uniform.

"Ma'am! I can't have you going back there!" the nurse exclaimed as Lauren pushed her way through the doors and run up to the gurney. She started to cry hysterically once she saw the paramedics using a bag valve intubation to keep Austin breathing. "Oh, my god..." Lauren whimpered as she looked at her brother on the gurney. "Austin!"

"Ma'am...do you know this person?" one of the doctors asked as he looked at her.

"This is my brother, Austin Woods...what happened?" Lauren asked as she looked at her brother, his face was covered in some blood from a wound and had gone down onto his white uniform.

"We don't know right now...but we are going to figure it out. We need you to stay in the lobby while we take care of him," the doctor announced.

Lauren nodded as she let the paramedics and doctors head back to a room. She froze for what seemed a long moment before she finally made herself move to the lobby where she had begun to shake.

Chloe sat on the chair. “Lauren” she said, standing up and walking over to her. She sat down next to her. “Did…did you see him?” She asked. Her phone buzzed.

Molly- any updates?
Chloe- nothing yet, I found Lauren, she seems in pretty bad shape.
Molly- how are you?
Chloe- a nervous wreck to be honest
Molly- I’ll be down if you want me to.
Chloe- thanks. I’ll be ok though. I’ll let you know when any news comes in.
Chloe held Lauren’s hand. “Can..can we see him?” She finally asked her, beginning to shake herself.

"Chloe!" Lauren exclaimed when she saw Chloe come into the Emergency Room doors. She wrapped her arms around her and started to cry for a moment. "I did see him. For a moment..." Lauren announced as she sat down in one of the waiting room chair. She sniffed before she continued. "They had to use a bag ventilation on him. He was unconscious...He also had a cut on his face and it looked like a broken right arm." She then stopped as her eyes widened. "Oh, god! I forgot about Lily! I need to call my husband..," She pulled her phone out of her purse and texted her husband to pick up Lily after school and that Austin was in the hospital.

Chloe started crying herself. “He…he’s going to be ok” Chloe said. Chloe nodded when she texted her husband. “Lauren…where’s the doctor?” She asked. “I…I wanna see him” she said. “I know he hasn’t technically asked me to be his girlfriend yet, but…but..I just…I can’t loose him too” she said, crying. Explaining to Lauren how her father had died a few weeks ago. “I can’t loose him too” she said, crying into Lauren. A nurse came up. “Do you two know Austin Woods?” She asked. Chloe looked up. “Yea…I’m Chloe…his…girlfriend” she said, even though it wasn’t official, she didn’t know what else to say. “This is Lauren, his sister” she said. “Is..is he ok?” She asked.

"We want to let you know that Capitan Woods is going to need surgery. We also have to put him on a ventilator since he is not breathing on his own right now. That is all I can tell you for right now. The doctor is now prepping him for surgery so that we can repair and clean out his arm wound," the nurse announced as she looked at the two. "To be honest, we don't know if he is going to make it since he has lost a lot of blood. We are trying to replace all the blood that he has lost through transfusions. Do you know his blood type so that we do not have to test?"

"He is A-," Lauren said as she looked up at the nurse.

"Okay. We don't know how long the surgery will take, but a doctor will be out to talk to you as soon as we can," the nurse announced before she turned to head back behind the doors to the Emergency Department.

Chloe felt herself fall to the chair. “No” she muttered. “No no no” her head was spinning. “I can’t loose him” Chloe closed her eyes and sat there for a moment before she some how fell asleep. When she woke up a while later, she looked at the time. It was 3:30 pm. Chloe looked at Lauren. “Have any doctors come out yet?” She asked. Just as she said that, two doctors came out. Chloe looked up, but there was still a ton of people in the waiting room, they could be for anyone. “We’re looking for Chloe and Lauren. The girlfriend and sister of Austin Woods” one of them said. Chloe stood up. “I’m Chloe, this is Lauren” Chloe said. “Is…is he ok?” She asked. “Well, the surgery went well” he said.

The two doctors were both wearing surgeon green scrubs as the arrived. "We were able to get his wounds cleaned out and we had placed a temporary support to his arm. He will have to have it removed in a few weeks. But we still are going to classify his condition as critical."

"I know that you may not be able to tell me anything...but what about the First Officer? Did he make it?" Lauren asked.

"We did have another pilot come in today while Austin was in surgery. He is not as critical, but we are also keeping an eye on him as well. We will allow you to see Austin, but only for a little while. He has a long recovery ahead of him," one of the doctors announced. "If you will follow us, we can take you to his room."

Lauren nodded as she helped Chloe to her feet and followed the doctors through a long corridor where they entered a room. Lauren could hear the sound of beeping from the heart monitor as she entered the room. The sound of the ventilator caused Lauren's eyes to tear up as she saw her brother laying in the bed. His eyes were closed as he lay there unconscious.

"We want to warn you that it may be a while until he wakes up. We did a scan on his brain and it is lucky that he has not sustained any brain damage," the doctor announced as Lauren walked over to her brother and placed a hand on his and squeezed his hand.

Chloe shook her head slightly. “I won’t be leaving his side” she said. “I know it’s not allowed, but I’m not going anywhere until he wakes up” Chloe said. She followed the doctors to his room. Chloe stopped at the door. Her heart pounding. “Austin” she breathed. Sitting on his bed, she took his other hand, picked it up and kissed it. “Austin” she whispered. “If you can here me” she muttered. “You need to get better” she sniffled. “For me, Lauren, Lily, your grand parents” she started crying. “See, I can’t loose you” she said. “You mean the world to me. And I love you” she said, leaning forward and kissing his forehead. “So please” she said. “Get better. You have to. I can’t imagine my life without you” she started crying. She stood up and pulled the chair close to him, resting her head on his shoulder. “Please” she whispered. “Get better”
