Lorcán bowed as well, although a slight look of annoyance was flashing in his eyes as he spun and thundered off towards the warriors. Precious time had been lost, and his apprentice was in desperate need of training, no matter how late the day was getting.
Swan sighed as the two stallions spun off. She could see that they were annoyed by the reasoning for the council, and really even she herself didn't know why she'd done it. A foolish move, that was certain.

''Is there anything to report,'' Treth questioned his apprentice once she had reached him. Artemis shook her head, ''no, all was quiet when Earl and I went out.'' Treth nodded, ''and how was that? Patrolling with Earl?'' ''I enjoyed it a lot,'' the Friesian answered truthfully. ''Good,'' Treth said, ''then I shell send you both out more often.''

Sugar still felt a bit sad but she shook her head ever so slightly. “What can I do?” Sugar asked her mentor. “Well, nothing right now, sense no one is coming for healing, so you can graze” Cinnamon said. Sugar nodded and began grazing.

Galmúr was grazing as he heard heavy hoofbeats approaching, and he swiftly raised his head. Lorcán slowed to a transition halt, annoyance still blazing slightly in his gaze. "Enough rest, daylight is wasting" He said shortly. "We shall work on your basic sparring, the day on which you will need it is swiftly approaching" he said, moving to a trot as he brushed past his apprentice. Galmúr had opened his mouth to ask of the council, but at the look on the gray stallion's face he shut it and simply nodded, spinning and moving to a slow canter as his mentor sped up. He hoped for Sugar's sake the answer had been yes... but he could already feel it had been the opposite.

Treth began a lope down the hill, Artemis followed. She put her nose to the wind and relished the feeling of freedom that coursed through her body. The air felt clean and her body felt as if it could run forever, though at the same time she didn't feel like running at all. Just the idea of being surrounded by horses who appreciated her and didn't look down upon every mistake she made, or totally shun her. She fixed her deep brown eyes on the path ahead and gave a sigh of contentment.

Sugar felt her heart sink in her chest. She had really hoped that Lead mare Swan would've said yes to her having a mate. Cinnamon gazed over at her. "Sugar you need to understand that this has been our rule for decades, it didn't seem right to change it." She said. Sugar nodded a little bit. "I know" She said

Galmúr was hard pressed to keep up with his obviously irritated mentor as they crashed back through the brush, heading once more for the clearing. He had a feeling he'd be doing a lot more work than he'd anticipated. With a steeling expression he picked up the pace, determined not to let himself fall to exhaustion. He could push himself harder. He was a warrior. It was expected.

The went at an easy pace yet still covering ground quickly in the efficient way scouts do. It seemed the southern end of the forest was where they were to go now. Artemis had never really been to this part of the forest but she had seen it at a distance and it always sent chills up her legs. She stiffened slightly at its dark and tangled appearance as she and Treth came towards it but resolutely she continued on even though she could feel herself protesting against it, there was something off, something not right with the forest.

Sugar pawed at the grass. She suddenly wasn't feeling very hungry. It wasn't fair. "Cinnamon, may I go talk to my friends?" Sugar asked. Cinnamon looked up from her own grazing and she sighed. "I'm sorry Sugar, no." She said. "They're training right now, and the warriors have a big sparring match soon, and the scouts have important training as well." Cinnamon said. Sugar sighed. It was true. Being a herd healer, didn't feel as important to Sugar anymore. "Hey" Cinnamon said. "How about I teach you some new herbs" Cinnamon suggested. "Ok" Sugar said

Lorcán crashed through the brush into the clearing and slowed to a halt, glancing back to see his apprentice follow suit after a few moments, and immediately feeling a twinge of hesitation. He shouldn't have pushed him so hard suddenly, not after giving him such a short respite, and him having stayed up most of the night. He sighed slightly, then frowned. He'd pushed this colt's cousin just as hard, and he'd turned out to be one of the best lead stallions the herd had seen. This yearling could handle it, if he had any of his father's blood in him. Galmúr took longer to slow himself down, not wishing to let his muscles seize up with a sudden stop, but finally he did halt before his mentor, dipping his head slightly to show his readiness. Lorcán seemed to study him for a few moments, then gave a quick motion of his head to the log. "Practice all you have learned, the day is already late, and I do not wish to begin another lesson that will take much time" he said shortly.

The sound their hoofbeats made on the forest path pounded in Artemis's ears, why was it so quiet? She glanced around nervously, body tensed to flee at the slightest show of danger, she wasn't normally like this. Even a pack of wolves hadn't bothered her. Treth suddenly stopped and sniffed the air, ''a horse has passed through here,'' he said quietly though to Artemis it was almost like he had shouted, ''I can't tell who though, lets carry on. Mayhap we'll find out,'' he said as they continued down the trail. Suddenly a young and rabbit bounded out of the underbrush and blocked their path, ''I say you two, dont carry on. Danger up ahead,'' she squeaked, ''turn back! Turn back!'' ''What is wrong-'' Treth began to ask the rabbit, but she had already hopped frantically away. Treth stared resolutely ahead again, ''come on,'' he told his apprentice.

As Cinnamon was teaching Sugar about the new herbs, Sugar stood there and just stared. She could barley hear Cinnamon speaking. "and this herb is..." Cinnamon broke off and looked at Sugar as she saw her staring. "Sugar" Cinnamon said. "Are you paying attention?" She asked. Sugar's head snapped up. "Yes." She said, with a brisk nod as Cinnamon looked at her before she continued. Sugar one again stared ahead. "OK, you're not paying attention" Cinnamon said to Sugar. "I'm sorry Cinnamon" Sugar said. Cinnamon sighed a little bit. "I know" She said. "But just because you're upset or distracted doesn't mean you can slack from your job" She said

Galmúr gave a determined nod and spun to the trunks, seeming to size them up before charging forward, acting as if it were his opponent, dodging and rearing, striking out lightly with his hooves before sliding to the side, demonstrating a rather flashy leg trip, had the tree actually been his opponent. But the large gray stallion was only half watching as memories seemed to mix with reality, Thunderhearts son, then his own current apprentice... and their moves were almost mirrors of each other. "He has the instinct" he murmured to himself.

Artemis managed to keep her breathing under control, the rabbit had spooked her somewhat and the warning had been disconcerting but Treth’s determination lifted her confidence somewhat and she followed, attempting to mirror that self assurance. The greenery became thicker the further the walked and it became quieter and quieter. Suddenly the sound of loud breathing was heard though it grew shallower as they approached. Rounding a bend what they saw suddenly made them stop short in there hooves, Treth quickly rushed forward.

Sugar looked up from where she was grazing when Cinnamon nudged her. "Sugar" She said. "Come on, FOCOUS!" She said. Sugar flattened her ears a little bit. "right...sorry Cinnamon" she said. Cinnamon shook her head and sighed. That yearling was quite distracted right now.
