"shoot!" Austin exclaimed as he woke up. He reached for his phone and noticed that he had several texts and missed calls from Jake.
Have you left yet? Our flight is in several hours. Just want to make sure that you make it on time.
It's been an hour since I last texted you...I have not heard from you. Our flight is today if you do not remember.
What the Demons?! Did you sleep in and forget that we have our flight to Denver that leaves in 2 hours! I have called you I don't know how many times and you don't answer..."
Austin flew from the bed to the bathroom after he grabbed some clothes to change into after his shower. Austin took a quick shower before he changed into his uniform. He was lucky that he had packed a few days ahead. Once he was dressed, Austin came out of the bathroom and put on his shoes and socks. "Why did you not wake me sooner? I have to be at the airport in an hour." He knew he should have not blamed Chloe for not waking him when his alarm had gone off earlier. He had never had this happen before. But he figured that it was just because he had gotten used to not doing anything tedious for the past few months while he was recovering.

"I just woke up!" Chloe said. She ran down the stairs and made him breakfast, opening the door for the dogs to go out and pee. She made herself some toast and made Austin some toast as well. When he finally came down the toast was all ready. "you can eat it on the go." she said. "I'll take care of the dogs, and Molly is here." she said. "Be safe, please" she said, kissing him. "I love you" when he left, Chloe headed out to the barn. "Morning Mols" Chloe said as she headed towards the barn. "Morning Clo" Molly said. "Hey, George" Chloe said, heading over to Beauty's stall. She put her in the cross ties and started grooming her down

Luckily Austin was able to make it to the flight on time. Over the next few days, Austin and Jake were both tested on their abilities when it came to flying in different types of scenarios. One scenario that was tested was a night flight in the fog as the "landed" in London. Another was an emergency landing in Seattle where the landing gear of the plane was not locking into position correctly. In all their simulator trainings, there was a person there watching them at all times to make sure that they were doing things correctly. By the time Austin got home from Denver, he was exhausted.
"You are lucky that the surveyor didn't catch that you forgot to check the wings when we had that ice warning," Austin said to Jake as they walked into the door after they had driven from the airport back to the ranch.
"Wait...she didn't? I thought I did check the wings," Jake said as he shut the door behind him. He took his jacket off and hung it by the door and placed his suitcase by the door as well.
"No. Luckily I called you on it. But she was not paying attention," Austin announced as he placed his suitcase in the closet by the door. "Chloe? I am home!"

Chloe was out in the field working with a new horse that had arrived a few days before. She herd Austin call her and she called back to him. "In the field" Molly was helping her with the new horse, "so, whats the deal with this guy?" she asked. Chloe shrugged. "apprently he has issues with people." Chloe said. Molly nodded and headed out of the field. She was heading towards the barn now. "I'll be with you in a second" Chloe said. Just then, the horse charged at Chloe. "woah, easy boy" Chloe said. He reared up and his hooves came down, slapping her head, she fell to the ground unconscious. "CHLOE!!!" Molly screamed, running back towards her friend. She turned to Austin's grand parents. "Call 911!" she said, shaking Chloe. "Chloe?" she mumbled

Austin looked at Jake as he heard the sound of a horse screaming outside. Jake and Austin looked at each other for a moment before running outside. He saw Chloe down on the ground as the horse was galloping away. Running over to Chloe, he kneeled next to Chloe. "Chloe?!" He pulled his phone out of the pocket of his uniform pocket and dialed 911. It did not take long for the ambulance to get here and loaded Chloe up. Elizabeth had ran after the horse and had it in a separate pen away from the other horses by the time the ambulance had left. There was no room for Austin in the ambulance, so instead, he had to take his truck as he followed to the hospital. Luckily they did not have to go all the way to San Antonio.

Molly drove in her car behind the ambulance. When she got to the hospital she wanted to rush in after her best friend, but was unable to as she was stopped. “We will send a doctor to you as soon as we know something” the nurse said. Molly sat down next to Austin and called Chloe’s mother. She explained what happened and that they were at the hospital. Then, she called James and told him the same thing. Soon, Chloe’s mom and James and his wife and daughter arrived at the hospital. “What happened?” James asked. “She was kicked by a horse” Molly said. “Is aunt Chloe ok?” Caitlin asked her mother. Ally looked at her husband. “We don’t know sweetie” ally said.

Both Austin and Jake, still in their uniforms arrived at the hospital as the ambulance pulled up to the hospital. Jake came along for support since he had been there when the accident happened. He wanted to make sure that Chloe was okay. Austin had to hold Molly back from charging into the back area of the ER. Sitting down with everyone, Austin looked at the ground. He finally understood what Chloe had gone through when it was him in the hospital after his accident. "I hope she is okay," Austin said. His body almost felt numb. He also wanted to go back there and see what was going on. But since the doctor said that they had to wait, he was going to do so. He reached for his phone as he texted his grandmother to let them know that they had made it to the hospital and that they were just waiting on the doctor to come out and let them know what was going on or that she was even alive. He knew just how dangerous horses could be as well. But you had to know what you were doing. And he knew that Chloe knew what she was doing. This horse had come to the ranch while he was away. So he did not know the details as to why it was here.

After a little while, the doctor came out. “I’m looking for Chloes family” he said. James stood up, caring Caitlin on his hip. “I’m her brother, and this is our mother.” He said, indicating his mom. “And this is her boyfriend and best friend.” The doctor nodded. “Well…the horse kicked her in the back of the head, where her vision is. She’s still unconscious as of right now, but her arms and legs are responsive.” The doctor said. “We will allow one person at a time to see her.” Molly looked over at Austin. “You should take her boyfriend to see her” Molly said. Chloe’s brother nodded. “Yes” he agreed. “Ok, come with me then” he said, leading Austin to Chloe’s room. “You can stay as long as you want, but I will be letting her family see her soon as well” he said, leaving the room.

Austin nodded as he followed the doctor to the room. It was almost like he was in Chloe's shoes when he was in the same boat. He stopped for a moment at the door as he looked at Chloe. He gulped for a second and then walked over to her side. Sitting down in the chair, he was quiet for a few moments before he finally was able to speak. His voice was a little shaky as he took her hand. "Clo...I am sorry that this happened to you. I hope that you get better soon. I am not going to go anywhere unless I absolutely have to," Austin said as he kissed her hand. He closed his eyes as he let his hand squeeze hers. "Please, just be okay for me. I love you."

Mollys leg shook. “Hi Molly” Caitlin said. Molly smiled. “Hi Caitlin” she said. “Is auntie Chloe ok?” She asked. Molly didn’t know what to say. She looked at James. “Yes, honey, your aunt is ok” he said, starting to cry. “Mommy, why is daddy crying?” Caitlin asked. “You’re to young to understand. Why don’t we head out and get some ice cream?” Ally suggested. Caitlin’s eyes lit up. “YES PLEASE!” She said. A nurse walked in. “Hi” she said to Austin. “We’ve had patients coming in before that have been kicked by a horse. She should wake up soon, but she may not see you” she said, leaving the room again. Chloe started coughing and then her eyes opened. “Austin?!” She muttered. She could feel his hand on hers. “AUSTIN? WHERE ARE YOU?” She asked, her vision was black and she was starting to shake. “I can’t see” she muttered. “I can’t see”

Austin almost jumped when Chloe said his name as he had his head down as he looked at the floor. "Chloe, I am right next to you," Austin said as he looked up. He tightened his grip on her hand to let her know that he was there. He took a deep breath as he looked at her. "I am just glad that you are awake. I guess we are even now," Austin joked as he stifled a chuckle. "And don't worry. Everyone is here. They are just letting only one person at a time come back here. Everyone said I should be the first person to come see you," Austin added.

“Where am I?” She asked. “Why can’t I see you?” She asked. “Why is everything dark?” Chloe started crying, soon, a doctor came in. “Oh, you’re awake” the doctor said. “Who are you?” Chloe asked. “Your doctor. “ he said. “It’s clear that you don’t have your vision” he said, coming beside her. “Ok, now, I’m going to ask you some questions” he said. “Who’s holding your hand?” He asked. “Um..that’s Austin Woods, my boyfriend” she said. The doctor nodded. “Ok, and do you know where you are?” He asked. Chloe shook his head. “No” she whispered. “You were kicked by a horse and you’re at the hospital” the doctor said. “So…why can’t I see?” She asked. “Because you were kicked on the back of the head, where your vision is” he said. Chloe held Austin’s hand. “We’re going to need to keep you here until your visions returns” the doctor said. “C-can Austin stay?” She asked. “Of course, I’m going to let some other people come see you now. Alright” Chloe nodded.

Austin was about to answer her questions when the doctor came in. He was gratefully that he did not have to answer those questions that Chloe was asking. He suddenly felt a pang of sadness knowing that he would have to possibly cancel his first flight back. He also had to go to San Antonio to speak with the NTSB for his hearing about what happened in the crash. Feeling a sudden feeling of panic, Austin suddenly felt that everything was going downhill for him. Was this all because he told Chloe that he was not going to stop flying? "Chloe...I am sorry that this happened to you. I kind of feel like this is all my fault because I told you that I was not going to stop flying..."

“It was that Darn horse” Chloe said. “Not you” Chloe promised. “Hey, Clo” Molly said. Chloe smiled. “Molly” Molly went over to the bed and sat beside her. “Are you ok?” She asked. Chloe shrugged. “Well..I can’t see” chloe said. Molly looked at Austin. “You can’t see?” Molly asked. Chloe shook her head. “You will” she promised, hugging chloe before she left. Chloe grabbed Austin’s hand. “Will I ever see again?” She asked. If Chloe could never see again, what would she do. “I hope I’ll be able to see again” she said.

"I believe you will see again. It just depends on how long it takes for your brain to heal from the accident," Austin said as he squeezed her hand. He was lucky to not have sustained any brain injuries during his accident a few months ago. The only problem that he has from that is a slight pain that comes and goes at times in his shoulder. But the doctor said that it could be temporary. "It also depends on how much damage you sustained, as well..." He did not want to say anymore in case he would upset her. But he knew that she needed to know what was going on.
