“Ok” Chloe said, dismounting him. “I need to get him used to the western saddle before you ride him anyways” Chloe said, taking her phone from Molly. Molly jumped off the fence and headed into the barn to do some work with Athena in the indoor arena. She propped up her phone and took of Lightning’s tack, then she left the round pen and kneeled down. “Look Maverick” Chloe said. Maverick sniffed at her phone, confused. “Look, it’s Austin” she said. Maverick barked. Chloe laughed. “He doesn’t understand” she said. “I miss you, you’ll be home in two days though, right?” She asked.

"Maybe. It depends on if I get another flight from Hong Kong that another pilot may not be able to fly," Austin announced as he thought for a moment. He reached for the water bottle on the table and took a sip of water inside of it. "Thank you for agreeing to wait for the next ride. I am not saying I do not trust you in any way. All I am doing is just trying to keep you safe," Austin announced. He then looked at Maverick with a smile. Since he only called his grandmother on the phone when he was about to leave, he never had Maverick see him when he was gone. So, it was new for his dog. "It's okay. But tomorrow the guys and I are planning to go on a hike up to the Great Wall. I may pick up a souvenir for you. It depends if they have anything good," Austin announced.

Chloe’s smile slightly disappeared but she nodded. “Ok” she said. “I wish could kiss you right now” Chloe said. At that exact moment, Maverick turned his head and gave Chloe a big sloppy kiss. Chloe laughed. “I should get going” she said. “I need to bathe Beauty, oh take pictures of the Great Wall for me” she said. “Oh, and no talking to ANY cute girls you see” she said laughing. “You’re taken” Chloe said, with a smile. “Be safe, I love you, and I’ll see you in a few days.” Chloe said. When she hung up the phone she sat there with Maverick for a moment. If Austin had to fly another flight, it would make Chloe very sad. She stood up and clapped her hands. “Alright you two” she said to Maverick and Ellie. “Let’s go”

Over the next two days, Austin hung out with the other crew members and finally it was time for Austin to head back to LAX. By the time he landed, it was kind of exhausting. Luckily his flight back to San Antonio was just an hour after landing and finishing with customs. He had brought back a few souvenirs for Chloe and his family back with him. He made sure to be careful on Facebook as he wanted Chloe to think that he was going to be gone longer than expected. He did not know that one of the other pilots had grabbed his phone to take a picture of him as he was in the cockpit and reaching up to the overhead console. He laughed when he saw it and posted it to Facebook with the caption, "Feels so good to be back in my office."

Chloe tacked up Beauty and out on her bridle. She hand Molly we’re having a little jumping competition. “You ready?” She asked. Molly nodded. “Yep, so is Athena” she said. “I think Austin got offered another flight, so I don’t think he’ll be home until tomorrow around 11pm” Chloe said with a small sigh. Molly sighed as well. “Im sorry” she said. Chloe shrugged. “I’ll see him eventually” Chloe said, as she mounted Beauty. Molly mounted Athena and they headed into the ring. The jumps were already set up and Chloe went first. “Track my time” Chloe said. Molly nodded and started him stop watch. “Aaand” Molly said. “GO!” Chloe kicked beauty into a gallop and beauty went racing towards the jump. When she finished going through the course, she trotted back to Molly. “Darn” Molly said. “40.3 seconds” she said

Landing in San Antonio, Austin got off the plane and headed to the baggage claim to grab his suitcase that had been placed under the plane. Luckily he was able to bring his flight bag with him on the plane as a carry on and even sat in the cockpit in the jump seat as it was an option for off duty pilots when they were going back to their crew base. Once he found his bag, Austin headed to the crew parking garage where he found his truck. Austin was one of those pilots who did not change out of his uniform until he got home. He was proud of his uniform.

Getting into the truck, Austin headed back to Fredericksburg in an hour and began to pull up to the ranch. It did not matter if Chloe was inside or outside as he pulled up. Either way, he could surprise her with being him early.

“Ok,” Chloe said, holding the stop watch. “Ready, Mols?” Molly nodded. “Ok, go” she said, starting the stop watch. Athena soared over the jumps just as fast as Beauty did. When Molly finished, Chloe smiled. “I won” Chloe said. “What was my time?” Molly asked. “45.5” Chloe said. “No uh! I want a rematch!” She demanded. Chloe laughed. “Ok, well do one layer” she said, turning as a truck rolled up. “Who’s that?” Chloe asked. Molly shrugged. “That looks like Austin’s truck, but he’s not supposed to be back for another two days” Chloe said, as she dismounted. She and Molly took their horses into the barn and untacked them. “Let’s see who it is” Chloe said as she walked out of the barn with Molly.

Pulling up to the house, Austin got out of the truck and walked to the back door of the truck so that he could get his suitcase. His grandmother came out holding a pie as she walked over and hugged her grandson.

"I am so glad you are home. Your grandfather is doing a little better. But I am going to be taking him to the doctors tomorrow to see if his arthritis has progressed some more," Elizabeth said after she handed Austin the pecan pie. "I made this for you since I know pecan is your favorite." Elizabeth kissed his cheek after Austin pulled the suitcase out.

"If it has progressed, I am going to have to say that Pop is going to have to retire," Austin said as he looked at his grandmother. She was about to say something but Austin stopped her. "Gran, I know. Pop is stubborn and wants to keep going. But he needs to realize that his knee is just going to keep him from working."

"No, I was going to agree with you on that. I have been asking him to think about retiring as head of the ranch," Elizabeth announced with a nod.

Chloe went up to the truck. “Hm…no one’s there” she said. “Let’s head back to the house for lunch” Chloe said. Molly nodded. “Alright” Molly said. They headed back to the house and made some sandwiches, then headed back outside. Maverick started barking. “Whats up boy” Chloe asked him, he kept barking wildly. “Ok ok, go” maverick started running and Chloe looked at Molly confused, she shrugged and the two followed after Maverick. He went in through the dog door. Chloe sighed. “Well maybe he just wanted to go inside, let’s go sit on some hay and eat the sandwiches” Molly said. The two friends went over to a bale of hay that was outside the barn, they sat down and began eating

"Well, I should get this back to the house," Austin said as he motioned to the pie that he was holding. "I need to get some rest before I get to some chores tonight around the ranch. Is there anything that Pop wants me to do?"

Elizabeth thought for a moment and then nodded. "Your grandfather was going to have the farrier come out here in a couple of days. But he has not gotten around to calling Luke due to his knee."

"Consider it done. i will call in the morning," Austin said as he heard Maverick run through the dog door and sat at his feet, whining in excitement when he saw Austin. Austin set the pie down on the counter as he knelt down and gave Maverick a rub all over his body. "Hey there, buddy. How have you been for Chloe?" He then stood up a moment later and gave his grandmother a kiss on the cheek before grabbing his suitcase in one hand and the pie in the other and headed outside with Maverick following.

Chloe gazed up the sky. “I miss him” she said. “You miss who?” She asked. “Who do you think?” Chloe asked. “You mean the man who’s walking right towards us?” Molly asked, smirking. Chloe looked up and her jaw dropped. “AUSTIN!” Chloe practically dropped her sandwich as she leapt to her feet and ran to her boyfriend, throwing her arms around him. “I missed you so much” she said, kissing him. She kissed him for a long time until Ellie barked. Chloe glanced down at her and then back at Austin. “What are you doing here?” She asked. “You’re not supposed to be home for another two days” Chloe said.

Austin had to hold the pie out so that Chloe did not knock it out of his hand as she ran over to and kissed him. "Whoa, calm down there. I did not have another flight. I just said that to get you to miss me," Austin said as he smiled at Chloe. "Would you mind opening the door for me, hun?" Austin asked as they got the the door of the house. His hands were full with both the pie and his suitcase. Once inside. he walked to the kitchen where he placed the pie in the fridge so that he could have a piece later after he had gotten out of the shower and changed into something that he could relax in for a while as he needed to rest for the day. Whether that meant falling asleep on the couch or just relaxing for a while.

Chloe started at Austin. Did he just call her hun…? Chloe thought. “Yea, sure” she said opening the door that lead to their house. “Ok, so I know you’re tired” Chloe said. “So I got a blanket ready on the couch for you” she said. “But if you want to sleep in your bed, I have the remote ready” she said. “I know you told me you weren’t coming home today, but I got everything ready just in case, cause ya know I’m a good girlfriend.” Chloe said with a smirk. “Well I’ll let you rest, I need to work with lightning for a while, so you can find me and Molly at the round pen” she said, kissing him one more time before she whistled to Ellie and left the house.

"Thanks. I'll probably just rest for a few hours," Austin said as he kissed Chloe and then headed upstairs for a shower. It was nice to finally be home on the ranch with the people that he missed most. Being in the air and in another country was hard on a person when they were alone. After he was done in the shower, Austin laid down in bed as he let Maverick jump up on the bed and laid at the foot. It was not long before Austin was asleep. But being a pilot was one thing that Austin loved.

Chloe laughed and headed out of the house and back to the barn. "wanna bathe the horses?" Chloe asked. Molly nodded. "sure, we can do it in the wash stalls." Chloe laughed. "where else would we do it?" she asked. Molly laughed, putting the halter on Athena, while Chloe put the halter on Beauty. She lead her to the wash stalls and put on the cross ties. Then she and Molly warmed up the hoses. Chloe started out by spraying a little bit of water onto Beauty's back, then she hosed her down before she shampooed her
