When Chloe and Molly headed outside for the day, they headed to the barn. "I want to check on Starfire" Chloe said, heading into the barn. Molly nodded, and grabbed a wheel barrel and started cleaning out the empty stalls. Chloe walked over to Starfires stall and she smiled. "hi mama" she said, opening the door. "how you feelin?" she rubbed Starfire's nose and said to Molly. "lets hold off on cleaning her stall until later, if she gives birth today, we want her to be in her stall." Chloe said. Molly nodded. "alright." she said, handing Chloe a rake. Chloe rolled her eyes but laughed and cleaned out Beauty's stall

Later that day, when it was a bit warmer, Austin had decided to start chopping. He had a few weeks ago used the chain saw to cut up a fallen tree into small logs that would be big enough for the fire place. Today, he needed to cut the smaller logs in half and then the larger logs into quarters if they were too big. All of this was done with a wood axe. He continued on for about an hour until he started to warm up and get a little sweaty, which he took hi shirt off so that he did not get it too sweaty, and thus cause him to get cold. Austin had a an amazing physic for both a pilot and a rancher. Thanks to both working with the wood and helping with weighing the calves almost everyday, he had abs and muscles that would make any girl blush when she saw him. Some women wondered why he had not posed for a cowboy calendar since he looked so good. He would just brush it off and continue working.

Chloe was cleaning out Twisters stall when all of a sudden, some touches her arm, she thought it was Austin, but when she turned around, she saw one of the ranch hands. He was gazing into her eyes. "why don't I give you a hand with that?" he said, touching her hand to take the rake from her. "and maybe, we can talk about this over dinner" he said. "Did you just ask me out?" Chloe asked him. He shrugged. "maybe." he said. "whats your name?" Chloe asked. "Oliver, but you can call me Ollie my lovely dove." Chloe backed away, she smiled and sighed. "uhm...Oliver, im flattered, but, I have a boyfriend." she said. Oliver took her hand. "yea, me." he said. "No." Chloe was about to say something, when he swung her out of the stall and placed her against the wall. "come on" he said leaning in to kiss her. Chloe pulled away again, but he put his hand blocking her way, making it impossible for Chloe to move. She was frowning, and beginning to sweat.

By the time the wood was cut and stacked, he had enough for both the houses He would stack some on the porch of his place later on that day. Possibly after dinner. He walked into the barn as he put his shirt on and quickly tucked it before buttoning it up. He could hear one of the ranch hands talking to someone as he walked by one of the stalls and noticed that he had Chloe pinned up against the wall. Anger boiled through his blood as he opened the stall door with a loud bang and pulled Oliver off Chloe. "What the Demons do you think you are doing?!" Austin yelled as he threw the ranch hand up against the wall. "I swear, if I EVER see you touch her again, you will have me to deal with! Oh, and don't think you can use the excuse of me being go to touch her. I have that covered," Austin said as he looked at Oliver. "Get off my ranch before I do something about it. I mean it!"

Oliver was quite surprised when Austin pulled him off Chloe. Chloe let out her breath that she had been holding, and almost fell to the floor. "wait" Oliver said. "is he..." Chloe nodded. "yea, Austin's my boyfriend." Chloe said. When Oliver had left the barn, Chloe could barely stand, but she managed to stand and she rushed over to Austin, practically throwing herself into him. "thank you" Chloe said, backing up to look at him. "it was so strange, I was jut cleaning out Twisters stall, when he touched my hand and asked me out, then he called me his lovely dove." Chloe shuttered and leaned against Austin, she took a shaky breath and just stood there

Austin wrapped his arms around Chloe and laid his chin on top of her head. "Don't worry. He won't be coming back here. Now I just gotta find a new ranch hand to replace him," Austin sighed as he continued to hold Chloe. After a moment, he took a step back as he looked her in the eyes. His rage was beginning to calm down but the stress was just starting to begin as he did not know who to hire as a replacement. Instead of letting the stress get to him, he pushed it away as he pulled Chloe in for a kiss that was deep and passionate. A kiss that said he was there for her and that he would protect her. But he suddenly had the urge to want to feel her skin against his. But he suppressed that urge as he heard the sound of footsteps coming down the stall isle with a slight groan.

"Austin, is everything alright?" the voice of his grandfather announce.

Austin pulled himself from Chloe as he turned to look at his grandfather. "Yeah, why?"

"I thought I heard yelling and then saw Oliver get in his truck and speed off like he was upset" George announced. "Did something happen?"

"I just caught him with Chloe. He had her against the wall. But I have taken care of it and fired him," Austin sighed as he looked at his grandfather. "We do need to find another ranch hand now."

"I'll get on that right away and start an ad," George replied before he walked out of the barn.

"I think I might actually know someone for that" Chloe said. "I need to make some calls, and get on my computer, but let me get back to you." Chloe said, kissing Austin before she went to the house. She went up to her room and grabbed her phone, calling one of her close friends, Grace. "hey, Grace, its Chloe. I know you love to do things with horses, and my boyfriend is looking for a new ranch hand." Chloe said into the phone. "How do you feel about working for him?" she asked. Chloe nodded as she listened to Grace. "ok, perfect. When can you start?" she asked. "tommrow? alright let me check with my boyfriend and then I'll text you." Chloe said. "alright, bye" she said, hanging up the phone and heading back to Austin. "I have found you a replacement." Chloe said. "My close friend Grace is great with horses and she loves doing the work, she can start tommrow" Chloe said to Austin

"I would have to interview her first. And my grandfather would have to meet with her. But, I will talk to him about it," Austin said as he wrapped his arms around Chloe. "But now that we don't have any interruptions..." Austin announced with a smirk on his face as he pulled Chloe closer to him and brought her lips to his as he kissed her again passionately. He let his hands move down to her waist where he let his thumbs gently move underneath the back of her shirt. Feeling her skin on his thumbs started to drive him wild as he slowly pinned her against the stall wall. His hands moved moved up her body until he had her hands in his hands and pinned them against the wall as well. He let his lips move from hers to her neck as he gently kissed her neck. He wanted to pull her shirt off to feel more of her skin but had to stop when he heard his name being called from the front of the barn. He groaned as he stopped at the second interruption as he lost all interest in what he wanted.

"Gran, is everything okay?" Austin asked as he exited the stall to see his grandmother.

"Yes, everything is fine. I just wanted to ask you something. Your sister called and she was wondering if you could bring out some logs for her for the winter. Her husband has been so busy with a contract that he forgot to call around to see if anyone had any wood," Elizabeth announced.

Austin sighed. "Yeah, I think I have some extra that I can bring her tomorrow. I just got to interview this potential new ranch hand first that Chloe knows," Austin said as he rolled up his sleeves. "I can fill up the truck tonight."

Chloe smiled and leaned into him, his cold hands touching her body, she didn’t mind, but she loved it. Austin had never kissed her neck before, but when he did, Chloe let herself put her hands behind his neck. This was what she liked, that Oliver guy, he wasn’t even her type. Chloe sighed when she herd Elizabeth talking to Austin. She quickly snuck out of the stall and went in through the back door. She passed Austin and went into Starfires stall. She was laying on the ground, breathing heavily. “Elizabeth!” Chloe said, standing up and quickly leaving the stall. “I think Star is in labor” she said, going back into the stall.

Both Austin and Elizabeth ran over to the stall where Star was on the ground. Austin walked into the stall where he knelt next to star. "Okay, I think that this is going to be a big foal. It looks like she is struggling a little," Austin announced as he saw that Star was exhausted. Obviously Star had been in labor for a at least half an hour. He grabbed onto the legs of the foal as he began to pull with each contraction. Once the foal was out far enough, he helped to remove the membrane from around the foal's nose so that it could start to breath on it's own. He continued to pull with each contraction until the foal was completely out. He pulled the rest of the sac off the foal as he could, knowing that once the mare stood, the umbilical cord would sever. This was the first time in a long time that he had to help a mare give birth.

Chloe knelt down beside Stars face. “Good girl, Star” she said, rubbing her nose. “You’re almost there. Almost there mama” she said, rubbing her neck. “Good girl” Chloe said. Star had her halter on and Chloe put on her lead rope. “Ok, let’s go” she said, once the foal was born. “Up” she stood up and helped Star up to her feet. Chloe looked at the tiny foal. “Seems like a little filly” she said, rubbing Stars neck. “Good job mama” she said as the little foal began to nurse. “Oh her baby is beautiful.” She said, smiling, she kissed Stars nose and watched as the filly nursed and Star nuzzled her baby. “Whats going on?” Molly asked. “Star gave birth!” Chloe said. Molly rushed over and poked her head In. “Awwww.” She said. “Is it a girl or a boy?” She asked. “It’s a girl” Chloe said. Molly smiled. “She’s absolutely adorable” Molly said.

Standing up, Austin pulled his cowboy hat off and wiped the sweat that had formed on his brow with the sleeve of his shirt. He then headed into the feed room to wash his hands. As he came out of the feed room with a towel to dry his hands, he watched the foal as it tried to stand up. He was surprised that it was wanting to get up so soon. It was not even 10 minutes. Some foals took 30-40 minutes to stand.

"You did a good job, Austin," Elizabeth announced as she hugged her grandson for a moment and then continued to watch the foal. "It reminds me of when I was growing up in Lubbock. We had foals being born and I would often help my dad feed them if the mare could not. We sometimes had to find surrogate mothers for the orphans. But it sure did feel good to watch a foal grow up."

“We should breed more mares” Chloe said. “Look at her” Chloe said. “Shes so cute” Chloe said. Then she looked at Austin and Elizabeth. “What do you think?” She asked. “Of course, I would take care of all the vet things, and I’ll keep an eye on the, when they get close to foaling” she looked at Austin again. “Please” she asked. Molly smiled. “Yeah! And I could help!” She said. “We could start by buying some pregnant mares and then work from there” Chloe said. “I think it’s a great idea” Molly said. “But…we understand if it’s to much work”

Austin rubbed the back of his neck as he thought about it. It would cost him a lot of money to buy some pregnant mares. He walked over to the stall door as he watched the filly begin to nurse. He began to think for a moment as he looked around the stalls to see how many he had left. There was still about 8 stalls that they could fill with mares. But he had to buy mares that were of good breeding and quality. "Well...let's try with one or two mares right now. It is going to cost us a lot of money just to find some mares of good breeding quality. Once we start making more money from the foals, we can start getting more mares," Austin said. They did get a lot of money from the cows that went to slaughter or the bulls that they sold. So, they could do it. But he wanted to start out slow and work their way up to getting more mares.

“My parents have some great quality mares at their place” Molly said. Chloe smiled when Austin agreed. “YES!! Thank you!!” She kissed him and then hugged him. Chloe stepped back to Molly. “Oh I remember them” she said. “A rose with no thorns aka Rose, and She’s a lucky Penny, aka Penelope.” Chloe said. Molly nodded. “Mhm” she said. “They’re great Broodmares, and their blood line is fantastic” she said. “I can call my parents to bring the, over if you want” she said, “they’ve both had multiple foals, and they’re really sweet, like I said, amazing bloodline” Molly couldn’t say enough about the mares. “And it would be really great to take care of them again” Chloe hugged Molly, she knew how much her best friend missed those two mares. She was two when they were born and they basically grew up with Molly. “So…” Molly asked. “What do you think?” She asked.
