"Nah, I take Maverick to town in my truck all the time to play fetch. She might smell him in the back seat. But she is welcome to sit back there all she wants," Austin said as he followed Chloe outside. He then opened the back door of his truck for Ellie to jump into before walking over to Chloe and opening the door for Chloe. His grandmother was all about teaching her grandsons manners when they were growing up. Boy did Austin get in trouble if he did not say his please and thank you to the people around him. Once she was in his truck, Austin then walked over to the drivers side and got in. Turning on the engine, he turned the radio a little as it was on the local country music station, then backed out of the driveway when things were clear.

Chloe nodded and watched as Ellie jumped into the backseat. Chloe let go of her leash and watched as Ellie explored the new surroundings. Once they were started on the road. Chloe put in the address for him. "Mind if I open the window for Ellie?" Chloe asked. She could hear scraping on the window in the back seat. Ellie then put her nose on the head of Chloe's seat. "Hold on Ellie" Chloe said, as she opened the back seat window. Ellie licked her nose and turned, poking her head out the window and letting her ears flow with the wind. "ok, park here." Chloe said wen they pulled up to her work. She got out of the car and opened the back door for Ellie, grabbing her leash. When they walked inside, Amanda was at the front desk. "hey, Chloe." Ellie's tail began wagging. "ELLIE!!" Amanda said. Chloe let go of her leash and Ellie went bouncing over to Amanda. "what brings you back?" she asked Chloe. "well I was hoping my friend here could look at Snow" Chloe said. "sure, go ahead and take him back. I'll watch Ellie for you." Chloe nodded. "Follow me" she said to Austin, leading him to the back where the puppies were kept.

Getting out of the truck, Austin followed Chloe into the building. He could hear some dogs barking in the back, but stayed back a little while Chloe talked with her coworker. He then gave Amanda a welcoming nod before following Chloe to the back where Snow was. He thought about Lilly and what would be good for her. He wanted to see the dogs before Lauren and Lilly came so that he could find the perfect dogs that would be perfect for them to look at. Something that fit and would not be be too big of a responsibility and easy to train. He could hear some more dogs barking as they continued to walk back further in the building.

Chloe stopped at Snow's cage. "Snow" Chloe said, she whistled slightly, and a 12 week old puppy came bouncing to the edge of the cage. "there you are." Chloe said smiling. She opened the door and carefully lifted her into her arms. "This is Snow" Chloe said with a smile. "She's the sweetest puppy you'll ever meet. She doesn't bite, she loves to play and she loves walks." Chloe said, rubbing Snow behind her ears. Snow turned her small head and licked Chloe's face. "do you want to meet any other dogs?" she asked, still holding Snow in her arms. |

Austin looked around at the other puppies before he turned back to Snow and Chloe. "I thought I would just look at each of them before Lilly and Lauren come here and take a look themselves," He then reached over and gave Snow a scratch behind the ear. "She sure is a sweetheart, though. I have a feeling that Lilly is going to like her a lot." He let the puppy lick his hand before giving her another scratch on the neck. "I think she would make a great dog for Lilly. But I am going to have to wait and see what Lauren thinks, first."

"Do you want me to reserve her for Lily?" Chloe asked. Watching as Snow went up to Austin and sniffed him. She pet one of the other puppies that was at the edge of the crate. "I can't promise that Snow will still be here. If you bring them back tommrow, I can promise she'll be here." She said. "So, it would be better to bring them over sooner rather than later. Like I said, Snow is one of the most popular puppies we have."

"I wish I wish I could come by tomorrow. But I can't. I have to help my grandad with the harvest tomorrow. And that would take all day since we still have two more fields of corn to harvest. We would have done it earlier, but with my schedule the way it was in the spring, it was kind of crazy to find the time to plant corn for the cows," Austin explained. "I was only able to get one and a half fields done today." He gave a look to the other puppies. "But if you can put a hold on her, I can come by as soon as I can. But I understand if you can not able to, I understand. We can always look at other puppies." He gave Chloe a smile and then looked at Snow before giving her another pet.

"I'll check with Amanda, but I will most likely be able to put her on hold for you" she said with a smile. "Hey" she said. "I'm pretty handy on a ranch, I can help with the corn if you want." she said. "I can even bring my horse down to make it go faster. She knows how to plow through corn fields pretty good." Chloe said, smiling. Snow yawned. "Here, let me put her back." she took Snow from Austin and there hands touched slightly. She gazed into his eyes, and then put Snow back in the crate. Then, she grabbed a sign with Snow's picture on it, writing "I'm on hold" she smiled and put it up on Snow's crate. "there" she said. "now, people will know she's on hold. Basically, that means someone is intrested and she can't get adopted."

When her hands touched his hands with hers, he almost wanted to lean down to kiss her, but he felt that now as not the time. She did kiss him at the airport yesterday before she went to meet her friend. That was one of the things he could only think about during his flight to LA. He even almost missed a call from ATC to change their altitude due to some weather in the area. "Thank you. I would let you come, but my Pop is a little particular on how he likes the corn harvested. My pop is still hard about not hiring any more hands at the moment. But with his knee, it has been a little hard for him to climb up into the tractor. But, I should be fine tomorrow by myself. I appreciate the offer. Maybe when I need help with herding some of the next cows that need to be processed I will give you a call," Austin answered with a smile.

Chloe nodded. "alright. Lets get going then. Ellie is probobaly getting hungry, I usually feed her around this time now." Chloe led him back to the front where Ellie was playing with Amanda. "make sure Snow stays on hold." she said as she grabbed Ellie's leash. "alright" Amanda said. Chloe lead Ellie back to the trust and opened the back door for her, where she jumped in and sat down with a sigh. Chloe laughed and got into the passenger seat of the car. She buckled her seat belt and waited for Austin to get in as well and head back to her house.

Getting into the drivers seat of his truck, Austin turned on the engine. The drive back to Chloe's house, Austin talked about his niece and how excited she was to see him yesterday when she came over for dinner. That little girl had stolen his heart and he hoped that one day he could have a daughter just like her one day. Someone he could watch over as she grew up. But he needed to find the right woman first. Pulling up to Chloe's house, Austin thought it would be a good idea to walk her up to her doorstep since he was a gentleman to make sure that she got inside okay. "I want to thank you for the good time tonight. I don't think I have ever gone to a dog shelter on a date before, but hey, there is a first for everything." He wanted to kiss her. He wanted to hold her close. But he wanted to take things slow. It was the first time that he actually felt something for someone else. After a moment, Austin decided that he would at least try. He slowly leaned his head toward hers until his lips found her. He then wrapped his arms around her as he let his body move into hers.

Chloe smiled when Austin talked about his niece on the drive home. When he pulled into her driveway, Chloe looked at him. "Yea, of course." she said. Suddenly, he was leaning towards her. Chloe almost screamed, but she kept herself under control as she slowly got closer to him and found his lips as well. Putting her arms on his neck, she sat in the front seat of his car, kissing him. She pulled away for a second, smiled and then kissed him again. They kissed for about 5 minuets. Chloe pulled back again. "Ok." she said. "I think now is the time I ask you for a second date. But I want to see if I want a second date first." she said, leaning into him once more and kissing him again. "Yea" she said. "I defiantly want a second date." Chloe blushed hard. "how about tomorrow?" she asked

Austin was about to answer her when his phone buzzed in the center console next to him. He reached for it and noticed that it was the his boss texting him.
I need you to fly tomorrow night. Another pilot called in saying that his son is in the hospital. The flight is from San Antonio to Seattle with one stop in Denver. You would fly with the same crew there and back to San Antonio. Then you would have a few extra days off. Can you do it?
"Darn it..." Austin sighed as he looked at his phone for a moment longer. "I would say yes about another date tomorrow...but my boss says he needs me for a flight from here to Denver and Denver to Seattle tomorrow night. "How about after I get into town, I can call Lauren and have her meet me at the shelter, and I can have her meet Snow in two days? Then we can discuss that second date?"
He was almost tempted to say no to his boss...but he loved to fly. It was his passion. He lived for it. Taking a moment, he answered back to his boss.
Sure, I can take it.

"yea" Chloe said. "Sure." She almost didn't want to get out of his truck, but she glanced at the time. "Molly will be back soon" she said, getting out of the car finally. She opened the back door and let Ellie out. Ellie jumped out of the car and ran up the steps to the house and through the dog door. "so..I'll see you in two days then?" she asked before she shut the passenger seat door. Chloe was about to close the door, when her phone rang. She took it out of her pocket and answered it. "hello? Oh, hey James." The smile on Chloe's face faded. "Mom just said he fell...is there something she's not telling me?" she asked. "What do you mean something with his heart?" she asked. "Yea, ok, I'll be right there." she said. She got back in the truck. "I need you to drive me to the hospital, something about my dads heart. I just need to feed Ellie real quick." she said, jumping out of the car. She took of Ellie's leash and then fed her quickly. She locked her dog door and ran back out into the car. Grabbing her phone and texting Molly.
Chloe- have Julia drive you to the hospital, something with my dads heart.
Molly- ok, I'll have her head there now. Clo, it's gonna be ok.
Chloe sighed, then turned to Austin. "if you want, you can call me Clo." she said, but as she said it tears were running down her face

"Sure, I can do that. I hope everything is not too bad," Austin announced as he set the truck in reverse and pulled out back onto the road. The drive to the hospital did not take long as he found a parking spot in the Emergency Department parking area. He wanted to follow her inside to make sure that everything was okay. If she said no, then it was alright. He would wait out in the truck until she needed to go home. "Do you want me to go in with you? Or I can stay out in the truck if you need me to," Austin asked as he turned off the truck.
