Chloe looked at him. "Come with me" she almost said crying. When he got out of the car, she walked over to him and held his hand. When they got inside, Chloe went up to the check in desk. "hi" she said to the lady. "I'm looking for my father." she said. "what's your fathers name?" the lady asked. "Jacob Whitefiled." Chloe answered. "The doctor is seeing him now, please have a seat." Chloe nodded. "ok" she said. She found a seat and sat down beside Austin, putting her head on his shoulder. "CLO!" Molly came running inside, with Julia beside her. "Is he ok?" she asked, turning to look at Austin. "you must be Austin." Molly said, "I'm Molly, Chloe's best friend." Chloe rolled her eyes. "Would you just take a seat?" she said to Molly. Molly laughed but nodded. "Clo?" Chloe looked up. "James" she stood up and ran to her brother, crying. "Hey" he said, holding her. "its alright. Mom's with him." he kissed her head. "Dad's strong, he'll be ok." he said. Chloe still cried, then she sat back down next to Austin. "Hi" James said. "Sorry we have to meet this way, I'm James, Chloe's older brother." he said.

"It's nice to meet all of you," Austin greeted James and Molly. He then looked at James and shook his hand for a moment before speaking again. "I give my condolences about your father. He is a good man. I have flown with him a few times when I first started at United. He taught me a few things when I first started." He then looked at Chloe. "I can stay here as long as you need me to. I can call my grandad and let him know if I am not going to make it back to the ranch tonight. I am pretty sure he will understand."

"But you have to fly tomorrow" she said, holding his hand. "if you need to go I'll understand." she said. "besdies, You don't want James going all big brother protective on you." Chloe said as James started laughing. "She's not wrong about that one" He said. "Hey, why don't I just give you a call when I hear something." Chloe suggested. "We had fun tonight, and Lauren and Lily are meeting Snow in two days, so I'll see you then" she said, wanting to give him a kiss goodbye, but not knowing if it was the right thing to do or not. So, she just leaned forward and kissed him. "I'll text you" she promised as James sat down beside Chloe

"Call me if you need anything. I don't care what time it is," Austin said as he leaned forward and kissed her. He then got into his truck and drove back home.
Over the next couple of days, Austin made sure that he would text Chloe to make sure that she was okay and if her father was okay when he had landed in both Denver and Seattle. He had a few hours when he was in Seattle and checked in with her again. He did manage to get a few hours sleep in the pilot's lounge in both Seattle and Denver as he waited for his next flight. It was about 4pm as Austin landed back in San Antonio. He texted Chloe to let her know that he was back in town and would meet her at the adoption center. He didn't care that he didn't have time to change out of his uniform before he had to meet with Lauren and Lilly at the adoption center.
"Uncle Austin!" Lilly exclaimed as she ran over to Austin after he had gotten out of the truck and walked over to his sister's Honda. She jumped into his arms as he hugged her tightly.
"Hey, Kido. I brought you something back from Denver and Seattle," Austin announced as he handed her a small bag.

Chloe nodded and she rested her head on James' shoulder, slowly falling asleep. James put his arm around his little sister and held her there. The next morning, Chloe was in her bed. James must've dropped her off. There was a text on her phone saying everything with their dad was ok. She let out a breath of relief and texted Austin,
Chloe- just herd from my brother, my dad is ok.
It was the day Lily and Lauren would be meeting Snow. Chloe had gotten her all primped and ready to meet them. She put a little bow in the puppies fur and rubbed her behind the ears. "Now, these will be potential adopters, so you need to be on your best behavior." She said to Snow. Snow wagged her tail and licked Chloe. Chloe looked at her phone and texted him back.
Chloe- alright, Snow is ready to meet them, lmk when you're here

"You brought me something?!" Lilly asked as she took the bag. She reached inside and pulled out two small snow globes. Lilly collected mini snow globes and every time Austin flew somewhere new or interesting, he would make sure to bring her back a snow globe from that place. Her eyes lit up as she hugged Austin tightly. "Thank you, Uncle Austin. I love them!"
"We can put these in your room when we get home with your others," Lauren said as he she put the bag into the car and then hugged her brother. "Thank you for taking the time to look at this puppy with us."
"No problem. I figured I would help you out a little bit since you have been busy with your job at the elementary school. So, I figured this girl I have been seeing would be able to help as she works here," Austin announced.
"A girl you are seeing? I thought you said you would only date flight attendants?" Lauren teased him as she elbowed her brother on his left arm. "Well, I am glad that you are seeing someone. Gran has talked to me about you settling down over the phone. She was worried you wouldn't find anyone. Are you sure you shouldn't change before going in?"
Austin chuckled as he picked up Lilly and led them inside. "Nah, it's okay. I am sure she wouldn't mind seeing me in my uniform anyways," He then opened the door for his sister and walked in after her.

Amanda was working on the computer when Austin walked in. "You're here to see snow" she said. "just one second." she took a walkie talkie and said. "Chloe, Austin's here." Chloe herd the walkie talkie and answered. "ok, im on my way." she looked at Snow again. "Remember, this is your big chance. Be a good girl." Chloe said, rubbing Snow behind the ears. Snow barked and licked Chloe. She put snow in the adoption pen and went out to the front. "Hi" she said, walking up to Austin to kiss him before she introduced herself. "I'm Chloe, you must be Lauren and Lily. Austin as told me a lot about you. And I think I have found the perfect puppy for your daughter." she said leading them to where Snow was.

Lauren reached over and shook Chloe's hand. "So you must be the girl I have heard Austin is seeing. My gran called me this afternoon while I was on lunch to tell me about you. It is finally good to meet you. Thank you for putting this puppy on hold for us," Lauren said.
Austin kissed Chloe, which felt a little awkward in front of his older sister. But that would soon pass.
"I hope I get to go home with a puppy today," Lilly said as she looked at Chloe and then Austin. "Will she be mine?"
"It depends, Kiddo. Depends on if she likes you and if your mother approves of her," Austin answered.
"It's better than a pony right now," Lauren added.
"Wait...uncle Austin is going to get me a pony, too!?" Lily asked, her eyes wide in excitement.
"Well...I wanted to get you a pony...but your mother said no. So, I think a puppy is a better suit for you right now," Austin answered.

Chloe laughed. "I think your mother very well will approve of this sweet puppy." she said. When they got to where Snow was, she lifted her out of the pen and put her on the ground. "Snow loves kids, so you don't have to worry about that, and she's super sweet." Chloe said, watching as Snow walked up to Lily, climbed into her lap, and started licking her. Chloe laughed. "I actually got my dog from this very shelter, she's a sweetheart, so you don't have to worry about training her or anything. Snow is already potty trained, she knows how to deal with the leash. and she even knows commands like sit, stay, lay down, roll over, ect." Chloe said.

"That's good. I don't know what I would do if I had that misbehaved," Lauren announced as she walked over to the puppy with Austin who set Lily down.
Austin smiled when he saw the Snow begin to instantly bond with Lily as she ran over and started to lick her and then laid in her lap. He then kneeled down next to Lily. "What do you think of her?"
"I like her. She is pretty. I like how she has two different color eyes," Lily responded as she picked up Snow and gave her a kiss on her head. "Sit," Lily instructed and instantly the puppy sat. Lily then looked at Chloe. "Can I give her a treat?"

"of course" Chloe said, pulling a treat from her pocket. "make sure to use a flat hand when you give it to her" she instructed. "and if you say sake or paw, she'll put her paw in your hand, like this." Chloe looked at Snow. "Snow" She said. Snow turned to look at Chloe. "paw" Snow put her paw in Chloes hand. "good girl." she said rubbing her behind the ears. "she is expecting a treat, so why don't you give it a try." Chloe said. Just then her phone rang. "excuse me for a second." Chloe said, getting up and walking to another room to answer the phone. "Hello?" Chloe talked on the phone for a while and then she hung up. When she got back to the other room, her smile had disappeared, but she put it on again, to make it look like nothing happened. She sat down next to Austin and put her hand in his, feeling protected by him in that instant. She gazed down at Snow, who had fallen asleep in Lily's lap. "so" Chloe finally said. "what do you say?" she said to Lauren. "will you be taking Snow home with you?"

"Snow, paw," Lily announced as she looked at the puppy. Snow then put her paw in Lily's hand. She giggled as she gave the puppy a treat and then gave her a kiss on the top of her head. She then looked up at her mother. "Can we take her home?"
Well, she looks like she really likes you. And she looks like she is well trained as well," Lauren looked at her brother for a moment. She then thought for a moment as she watched the puppy fall asleep in her daughter's lap. Kneeling down, she took a photo of Lily and sent the videos that she had taken to her husband. "Let's see what Daddy says first. He wanted us to send him some videos first before we decided. You can continue to sit with her.
Austin watched Lily and Snow as a smile came to his lips. He then watched her leave once her phone had rang. When she returned, something seemed different about her when she had returned. When she grabbed his hand, he then leaned over to her to whisper and see if she was alright. "Is everything alright? You seem different after that phone call..." He looked at Lauren and then Lily as she pet Snow as she slept in her lap.

Chloe gazed into his eyes. She wanted to spill everything out on him then and there, but she couldn’t. She didn’t want to ruin the special moment between Snow and Lily, so she simply whispered back. “No, I’ll tell you when they leave” she said. Chloe’s phone was going crazy, she grabbed it from her pocket and saw 27 new messages from James. The first one saying ‘Clo, answer me, I’m sorry I lied’ Chloe put her phone in her pocket again, it hadn’t even been a minute before her phone beeped again. She took her phone out of her pocket and texted James.
Chloe- James, Austin’s sister and her daughter are at the shelter right now, looking at one of the puppies, I don’t have time to be mad that you lied.
James- good, you’re working, I’ll be over in 10.
Chloe sighed and put her phone in her back pocket. “I haven’t seen snow like this with anyone” Chloe commented. “She really likes you Lily”

10 minutes later, Lauren looked at her phone after she had reached over and gave Snow a pet on the top of her head as she slept. It was her husband. He approved of Lily taking Snow home. With a smile, she looked up at Chloe. 'I think we will be putting an application in for her. Lily really likes her and she seems to really like Lily. I think we really want her. But Lily, are you going to be able to take care of her, walker her, and clean up after her?"
Lily looked at her mother as she shook her head. "Yes. I want her. I like that she sleeps in my lap. And she is super pretty."
Austin could feel that something was a bit off as he clenched his jaw. He wanted to say something, but he couldn't in front of his sister and his niece. He did not want to spoil the moment between them. All he could do at this time was wait for her to tell him what was wrong.

“Alright” Chloe said, standing up. “There is a collar that we have ready for her” Chloe said, going into the back to grab the collar. It had tiny little snowflakes on it. “It has tiny snowflakes on it and it has a bone with her name on it. Oh and you can’t forget the matching leash” Chloe said, handing it to Lily. As they went to the front, Chloe went behind the counter and was getting everything ready. “Oh, just so you know, there is a specific type of dog food that she will eat. I’ll write it down for you and where you can get it” Chloe said. Just then, the door opened, and in walked James. Chloe glared at him, and he sat down. “Here are the adoption forms you need to fill out, and I think that’s everything” she said. “You’re going home snow” Chloe said to the husky, who had woken up. Snow barked in happiness and Chloe laughed.
