Lauren began to fill out the paperwork as she found a table in the room to fill it all out. Once she was done, Lauren handed the paperwork back to Chloe. She then grabbed her wallet out of her purse so that she could pay the adoption fee and handed the money over. "I really appreciate everything, Chloe. I am sure that my daughter will be very happy tonight when she gets home."
Austin's eyes moved behind him as he saw Chloe's brother walk in and sit down. He wondered what was going on and what he could do to help calm the situation. At least, he felt that something was more wrong with Chloe than she was leading on. He quickly shifted on his feet as he walked over to Lily and Snow. He helped her put the collar and leash on before he placed the leash in Lily's hand. "Now, this is a big responsibility. I know you can take great care of her. I can send Chloe pictures as often as your mother sends them to me."
"I know. I am just so excited to get her home. She is going to sleep with me in my bed tonight," Lily announced as she smiled and hugged Snow.

“Yea, of course” Chloe said to Lauren, shooting a glance at her brother. Chloe took the money from Lauren and put it in the cash register, “yes, that would be great” she said to Austin. “And I can send your uncle pictures of my dog.” Chloe said. “Tell you what” Chloe said, bending down. “You can come visit Ellie whenever you like” she said. “Just, make sure it’s ok with your mother, and that your uncle texts me in advance.” She said laughing, rubbing snow behind ears. When they left, Chloe marched over to James. “Clo, let me explain” he said. “No, James, there’s nothing to explain. You lied to me, about our fathers health” she said. James looked at the the ground. “I know, mom asked me to. Dad had a heart attack, and they thought he would be ok, but he wasn’t, he died last night.” Chloe looked at her brother. “You still lied to me!” Chloe said. “You told me he was fine! When he died” Chloe said. “I don’t know how I can forgive you for that” Chloe said, turning towards Austin to hold his hand. She was shaking. James looked at his little sister. “I know, and Clo, I’m sooo sorry” he said. Chloe sighed. “You’re my brother, I’ll always forgive you, but…dad is dead. And you still lied about it”

Austin clenched his jaw again as he listened to James and Chloe argued about their father and about how her brother had lied to her. He looked away when Chloe said that her father had died. He had only gotten to meet him a few times in the cockpit. Never outside of work. It was a small world as they say it is. He looked at Chloe and then at James. He understood what it was like to loose a parent. Demons, he had lost both on the same day. He had never talked to Chloe about it, so she was under the impression that they were still alive. He remembered the day that he was told that his parents had been killed. He was out with his sister taking care of the horses when his grandmother came out in tears.

“James, just leave” Chloe said. James sighed but nodded. “I’ll call you” he said. Chloe looked down at the ground as he left. She sighed and headed into the back to clean up. After she cleaned up, she went to the dog crates and refilled there food and water bowls. Then, she gave them there toys. “There you go guys” Chloe said, smiling. “I’ll see you guy’s tomorrow” she turned off the light and headed out. It was Wednesday, and they shelter always closed early on Wednesdays. “So” Chloe said to Austin. “Are we gonna talk about that second date?” She asked, smiling, as she headed over towards him. “Hey” Chloe said. “Are you alright, you seem a little off. What’s up?”

Austin looked at Chloe as he took Chloe's hand. He wanted to lie and say that everything was okay. That everything was going to be alright. But that was not the way to start a relationship. Not on lies. After a deep breath, Austin finally spoke. "Chloe, I know what you are going through. I understand everything about going through with losing a parent. In fact, I have lost both my parents. They were killed almost 20 years ago when I was five. My parents had gone out of town for a few days to go visit some friends. On the way back, a pretty bad storm had hit as they were driving on the highway. The rain was so bad that my parents lost control of their truck as they drove. It rolled down a hill and my parents were killed instantly. I didn't understand at the time that my parents were never going to come back." He closed his eyes as he wanted to tell her more about his brother that he never wanted to talk about again. But he could not make the words come to his voice. "I want to go to the funeral with you. I want to pay my respects for your father. I may have only met him a few times when we flew together, but he was a good man."

Chloe listened. “Oh Austin” she said, hugging him. “I’m so sorry” she said, kissing his cheek. “I’m glad you told me” she said, smiling. “And, yea, I would like if you joined me” she said, opening the door to the shelter and walking outside with Austin. “My dad may have only met you a few times, but I know that he would’ve really taken kindly to you” she said, wanting to kiss him again. “Moll isn’t going to pick me up for another hour, how about we go out to dinner?” She suggested, holding his hand. “Look” Chloe said, as she got in the front seat of his truck. “I think…I should tell you something.” Chloe looked out the window. “I know we only went on one date…but…Austin…I really like you, and I…I really want you to be my boyfriend” she said, blushing. “Austin” Chloe finally worked up the courage. “I love you”

Even though he was still in uniform, he didn't care about not heading home to change. He did have extra clothes in his suitcase, but he didn't think the clothes that he had with him would not suit the idea of a date. He nodded as he led Chloe to his truck. As they drove, Austin listened to Chloe as she began to confess her feelings for him. He almost slammed on the breaks when she said she loved him. He made it look like it was the car in front of him that cut him off as he looked down at his hands on the steering wheel. Instantly, he remembered all his one night stands that he had with a few flight attendants during his time as a pilot. The life as a bachelor seemed to suit him. At least that is what he thought. His grandmother was worried that he would not settle down and have children of his own once he was married. Maybe it was time to leave that life behind. Kelley had texted him the night before asking if he went out with as he said, "the hot girl on the plane." He ignored the text for a few hours before he finally responded.
A smile came to his lips as he knew that he should not take his eyes off the road. He did not answer for a moment as he came to a stop at a red light. He let his hand take hers as he looked at her. "Chloe...please know that it is hard for me to say those words back right now. I do have feelings for you. I really do. I just..." how does a guy say that he had one night stands as a pilot when he first started out. It had been a while since he last hooked up with anyone. He took a deep breath. "Give me some time, Chloe. I will say those words back to you one day, I promise. Until then, I ask we take things slow. I don't want to hurt you in any way."

Chloe nodded. “Ok” she said. “It’s just…that…my last boyfriend cheated on me and I wanted to tell you now.” She said, holding his hand as well. “But, of course we can take things slow. All I want is to be with you, you don’t have to tell me you love me, I just want to be with you” she said, as the light turned green. Her phone beeped. “Oh, hold on.” She said, grabbing her phone. “It’s my mom”
Mom- hey, Clo, I just wanted to let you know that your dads funeral is this Saturday at 3pm
Chloe- ok, Ellie and I will be there, dad loved her, so it seems right.
Mom- you can bring anyone you want
Chloe- can I bring the guy I’m seeing?
Mom- of course, I thought you may want to bring Molly, but yes, bring him along, your boyfriend.
Chloe- Molly is still coming, and no Austin isn’t my boyfriend yet, he hasnt asked me to be his girlfriend yet
Mom- oh he will, just wait. So you can bring him and Molly.
Chloe- ok, love you mom
Mom- love you too, Clo.
Chloe looked at Austin. “Ok, so my mom says you’re good to come to the funeral, as long as you don’t have to fly a plane” she said laughing. “Anyways, it’s this Saturday at 3” she said

Austin was glad that Chloe understood how he felt. He smiled as he started to drive again. He figured that since it was a fallen retired pilot that he would wear his uniform as a sign of respect. The full uniform with the blazer and the hat. "I am sorry that happened to you. I would never do that to you. And that is a promise. My grandmother raised me better than that." He remembered talking to his grandmother when he was in high school. He was dating a girl that he no longer had feelings for. She had changed since they had started going out. She had become popular and started seeing the high school football jock behind his back. He then placed his hand on top of Chloe's hand that was on the center console. "Thank you for understanding. I have to say that my dating past is a little...complicated. I have done things that I not proud of. But I want to change that now that I am with you."

Chloe smiled. “Well, I can agree that my dating life was complicated. Don’t tell anyone, but when I was in high school, I kinda dated two guys at once.” She said laughing. “I was in to this one guy, and we had started going out, and then this football player asked me out and he was the hottest football player on the team, so obviously I said yes” she told him the story of how her two “boyfriends” found out about each other and then got all mad at Chloe. “But I was 16, and honestly a little immature” she admitted laughing. “You have to promise you won’t tell anyone that story. The only people who know are my family, and Molly” Chloe said. “Hey, you want to come over to my house on Saturday and help me get Ellie ready for the funeral? She and my dad had a special bond, so it only feels right that I bring her. She’s not good with baths, so I’ll need your help, and it gives us some time to get to know each other a bit more” she said, kissing his hand.
(My last post for the night, I have school tmrw, but I promise I’ll comment as soon as I get to school in the morning!!)

"Yeah, I can come over and help you. I can change there into my uniform at your place. I figured since he is a fallen retired pilot, that it would be respectful to wear it. I am sure that others will be there that knew him in his uniform," Austin announced as he turned onto another road. He then was a little quiet as he was trying to focus on the road. It was rare that anyone would be in his truck with him as he was normally alone. The only people that rode in his truck with him were his grandparents, sister, and Lily. He had to think about what Chloe had said. She had once had a love triangle with two guys at the same time. It reminded him of one of his ex's Elizabeth. The one that had cheated on him. He could not be angry with what Chloe had did to her two 'boyfriends" as that was in the past. There was a possibility that she had changed since then. He then reached for the coffee that he had got at the airport after landing and took a sip as he drove until they had reached the restaurant that she had told him she wanted to go to.

Chloe smiled. "alright, thanks" she said. "Its quite the challenge when it comes to bathing Ellie. Someone has to hold her collar down so she doesn't jump out of the tub and get water everywhere." she said laughing.
When Saturday came, Chloe rolled in her bed and then got up early. She texted Austin saying -hey, I'm going to start getting Ellie ready soon if you want to come over. It takes me about an hour to get her in the tub and then an hour to bathe her, and then another hour to dry her and primp her.- she rubbed Ellie behind her ears. "you're getting a bath today Ellie" Ellie growled slightly and then she whined. "its alright. You'll be ok, you get baths a lot, its not like I haven't done it before." Chloe said. She went over to Molly's room and knocked on her door. "Mols" she said. "I'm getting Ellie ready soon, you should get ready soon too." Chloe said. A very tired ok, could be herd from inside Molly's room. Chloe laughed and headed downstairs for breakfast. She grabbed Ellie's food and poured it into her bowl. "Austin is going to help me give you a bath." she said. "you like Austin, don't ya?" Ellie wagged her tail and then began eating her food when Chloe gave her the ok.

The drive was a little chaotic as there was a lot of traffic as everyone was out and about as it was Saturday. It took him a little longer than expected to get to Chloe's than he thought it would. He had texted her that he would be a little late and that he would be there as soon as he could. When he finally arrived, he grabbed his uniform that was freshly dry cleaned from the hanger in the backseat. A few moments later, he rang the doorbell of her place. Austin always had his uniforms dry cleaned two days before his flights and always brought spares with him. He took a step back as he waited for someone to answer the door.

Ellie had finished her breakfast right before the door bell rang. She jumped up, and ran out the dog door, baring happily and circling around Austins legs. Chloe laughed and got up, answering the door. "Hey" She said, grabbing Ellie's collar, and dragging her back in the house. "I just finished breakfast and Ellie finished a while before you got here. I usually bathe her upstairs, so it will be a challenge to get her in the tub" Chloe said, as she headed up the stairs and to the bathroom. Ellie followed her and then shrank back. "Grab her" Chloe said to Austin. "before she escapes the bathroom"

Austin placed his uniform into a closet for safe keeping so that it would not get ruined. Once he was asked to grab ahold of Ellie's collar, he reached down and picked up the puppy off the ground with little effort. It was just like catching the escaped calf that had escaped the sale pen. He picked up Ellie in his arms and brought her to the tub. "Easy, girl. It's going to be okay. Just relax and it will be over with as soon as possible," Austin announced as he set the German Shepherd puppy into the tub with the running water. He kneeled next to Chloe as he helped her get Ellie ready for the day.
