Gus had just gotten back from patrol when Artemis came up with her mentor. "hi" he said. "I saw Sugar a little while ago" he said. "she and Cinnamon were checking over my little sister to see if she was still eating ok" he said, not wanting to explain anything.

Sugar was sorting some more herbs as the sun was setting. "Cinnamon" she said. Cinnamon looked up from her herb sorting as well. "yes, Sugar?" she asked. "Can I go find my friends now?" she asked. Cinnamon nudged Sugar a little. "you need to wait for them to come to you, remember?" she asked, Sugar sighed but nodded. "ok, what else can I do?" she asked. Cinnamon thought for a second. "Well, nothing really, we've done herb collecting for the day, your testing, and pretty much everything that needed to be done" she said. "but if you want, I can test your knowledge on the herbs again" she said

Galmúr finally stopped walking and shook his mane out, his legs aching slightly from the large amount of walking he'd done. He swiftly stilled as his mentor turned to face him, precisely at the same spot they'd first started out that afternoon. Now the sun was glimmering above the horizon, the land bathed in orange hues. "I hope you realize that today was just the easy introduction" Lorcán spoke with a slight frown at his apprentice. The young buckskin swiftly nodded "Of course" he said, although he was wondering that if walking, cantering, and trotting and memorizing for an entire day was just an introduction, what would a normal lesson be? His question was soon answered. "Tomorrow I will expect you to lead the way, and after that we'll start your fight training" his mentor spoke and he nodded again, determination lighting in his gaze. He knew he'd be able to do it, he had the trail memorized, he was sure of it. "Now then, the evening is late and I have some duties to attend to, that do not include you" he said quickly as he saw the young buckskin's ears perk up slightly in interest. "Until morning you are free, I expect you to meet me here no later than sun rise" he said sternly, then whirled and cantered off towards the herd. Galmúr blinked in surprise as his mentor simply cantered away without another word to him, then he gave a sigh and shook out his mane again. It had been a long day, but a fulfilling one for sure. Then his eyes brightened again. Now he could go find his friends! If they were done their training... which he hoped they would be. For a moment he stood and gazed at the herd, unsure of where to start looking. Not seeing his friends on his first scan, he decided to simply go searching for them, and cantered back towards the herd, a smile already on his muzzle at the anticipation of seeing the two fillies.

But the silver roan yearling who was watching from the edge of the herd, was not smiling. He'd seen the interaction between mentor and apprentice, and anger was raging through him, his pinned ears and glaring eyes showing it. So, Lorcán had taken the new yearling as his apprentice. Instead of him. He swished his tail and pawed the ground restlessly, his burning gaze following the shining golden coat of the young buckskin as he cantered into the herd with a carefree manner. So, going to find his friends was he. He let out a snort and suddenly leapt forward as well, swiftly galloping around the edge of the herd. He had the upper hoof, he knew the layout of the herd, and he knew where the scouts would be coming in.

Artemis smiled back at Gus, ''oh, really, I hope Sugar is well and is enjoying her new job.'' Myth and Raider suddenly trotted up. ''So where'd you go today,'' the leopard appaloosa asked.'' ''We followed the Blood Rock trail,'' Artemis answered. ''The north, or south trail,'' Raider asked looking at her slyly. Artemis thought for a while ''well, the trail went all the way around the herd, so both I guess.'' Raider waited a while before answering, to see if she would change her answer, ''thats right,'' he finally said. ''Raider,'' Myth said, Treth is her mentor not you,'' Myth joked. ''I was just asking,'' Raider answered innocently. Suddenly Treth approached the little group, ''Artemis, you are released from your training for today, you may go and find your friends.'' Artemis bowed smiling, ''thank you Head Scout Treth, see you guys tomorrow, hope your sister is alright Gus,'' she turned around and began trotting toward the herd, hoping she would find her friends easily.

Gus smiled and then turned to his own mentor. "Applejack" he said. "yes, you are released as well" he said. Gus dipped his head and cantered over to his mother and little sister, his father making his way over now.

Sugar smiled and nodded. "yes, I do! I want to get tested again" She said, eagerly. "perfect" Cinnamon said. "Ok, show me cobweb, ginger, mint, tansey, juniper berries, poppy sead, rosemary, nutmeg, parsely and lavender" Cinnamon said. Sugar's eyes widened. "all at once?" she asked. "yes, and in that order" she added. "ok" she said, as she trotted up to the pile of herbs, as she was about to start, she looked up and saw both her friends near by. "Cinnamon" Sugar said. "Finish the test first" she said. Sugar sighed. "ok" she said. She padded up to Cobweb, as her friends came closer. "cobweb" she said. Cinnamon nodded in approval. Then Sugar trotted over over to ginger. "ginger" she said, looking up, as her friends continued to get closer. Cinnamon smiled. "good" she said. "tansey, juniper berries" she said, as tansey and juniper were right beside one another.

Stormflash sped around the outskirts of the herd and skidded up to the scouts who seemed to be dispersing for the day. He glanced around for a few seconds, then his gaze darkened as he saw the dark friesian trotting away into the herd. So he'd just missed her. But a slight smile spread over his muzzle as he realized the golden yearling wasn't in sight... yet. Swiftly he cantered towards the black friesian, slowing right before he reached her and trotting past her, then turning to look at her and tossing his dark mane with a look of surprise. "Well, Artemis isn't it? I was just on my way to organize the warriors, you know, make sure they're on their proper patrols, keeping the herd safe" he said with an important look on his face as he gazed towards where the warriors were. A flash of golden suddenly caught his eye back in the herd, and his eyes narrowed.

Galmúr trotted through the herd, his gaze sweeping the horses as he searched for his friends. His gaze drifting further, a smile came to his muzzle. Ah, there was Sugar! He sped up slightly as he smiled and dipped his head to some horses that glanced over at him in curiosity. He was getting closer to Sugar, but then he could see that she was still with her mentor, and so he slowed slightly, figuring it was probably more polite to wait than barge in.

Artemis was very impatient to be back with her friends. She quickened her trot slightly when suddenly a large grey-blue horse stood in her path. ''Yes, I'm Artemis,'' she answered, she nodded slightly when he spoke about organizing the patrols, she was rather surprised that so young a horse was given such a position of authority, trying hard not to look nervous, she spoke again, ''I am very anxious to be reunited with my friends.

Sugar looked up as Galmur got closer...just close enough that he was in ear shot. "Finish up, Sugar" Cinnamon said. Sugar nodded, padding to the poppy sead. "And then, this is poppy sead, and then rosemary, nutmeg beside the rosemary, parsley and lavender" she said with a bright smile. Cinnamon nodded her approval. "Very good Sugar!" She said. Sugar beamed happily, as she waited patiently. "alright, you're dismissed for the night" she said. Sugar smiled. "thanks Cinnamon" she said, as she cantered to Galmur. "GALMUR!" She squealed happily, nuzzling him and trotting around him. "did you hear me name all those herbs?" she asked

Stormflash looked back to Artemis as she spoke, his eyes flashing with slight annoyance. Oh of course she was eager to be reunited with them. He tossed his mane again, not moving himself from her path. "Ah, yes, your friends, that young impetuous healer and the golden buckskin, if i'm not mistaken" he said, in a voice that said that he wasn't mistaken and he knew it. "Of course, you could go hang out with them.. or I could give you a tour of the herd, the warriors, the other yearlings in the area, where everyone's supposed to sleep" his voice was nonchalant as he slid his gaze back over to her, shifting slightly in place, his young muscles rippling under his well kept silver coat.

Galmúr pricked his ears as he listened to Sugar, smiling slightly as she rattled off names of herbs, seeming in her element. Finally when she cantered up to him he grinned and hugged her. "I did! You seem to catch on really fast, it's definitely your thing!" he said admiringly, turning with a grin as she trotted around him, and then happening to look up. He froze, an angry expression spreading over his face. A glint of silver had caught his eye, and upon looking harder, he could see the familiar form of Artemis, her way blocked by the older yearling.

Quite honestly Artemis would have loved to have a tour of the herd and a chance to meet the other horses, but she was not quite sure that she would have wanted it given in the company of this yearling. ''Maybe some other time,'' she said trying to smile politely, ''as I am rather tired from the long day,'' she said trying to step around him.

Sugar snorted as she saw Stormflash with Artemis. She flattened her ears is disgust and started marching up to him, Galmur at her side. She thought better than to speak to him, but she glared at him with flattened ears and a stomp of her hoof. “Do something before I do” sugar whispered to Galmur, as she stomped her feet on the ground again. She snorted again and was about to charge, when Galmur finally stood up.

Stormflash almost scowled, just barely able to restrain himself from showing his frustration with the yearling filly. Forcing a light smile, he gave an almost imperceptible step forward as she attempted to walk around him. "Of course, anytime, I'm always here and ready to show newcomers like yourself around" he said with another, this time more flashy, smile. "Ah yes, training, it is tiring i'm sure" he said, implying that he'd never had that particular experience. "But really, all the horses are SO eager to meet you, I'm sure they would love it if you took time to meet them on your first day" he said with a sly look down at her.

Galmúr's ears pinned fully, his eyes flashing with anger as he saw Artemis attempt to step around the yearling, who smoothly moved to block her with a toss of his mane. That was it. He'd had enough. Apparently Sugar had as well, as as soon as he moved, so did she, right by his side. Quietly coming up behind the yearling, the young buckskin glared at the silvery coated yearling, glancing to the side as Sugar stomped an angry hoof, then whispered to her. For a moment he hesitated, remembering the lead mare's rule, but he couldn't stand to see the friesian filly being pushed around. With a swift movement he stepped around the yearling, who'd just realized they'd arrived and turned with a rather frustrated, angry glance to the two of them. Sliding over beside Artemis, he stepped forward, forcing the silver roan to step back a single step. "I'm sorry to break up your conversation, but we've really been looking for Artemis, we all have a lot to discuss about the day, I know you understand" he said, smiling a very forced smile to his cousin.

Stormflash's eyes sparked with annoyance and frustration as he heard a stomp of a hoof from behind him and jerked his head over to see the small dapple filly glaring at him, alongside his cousin. Surprised by the yearling's boldness, he was startled into taking a step back before he recovered himself. Quickly gathering his dignity and power to him, he drew himself high, although he really was precisely the same height as Galmúr, looking down at the buckskin with a disdainful gaze. "You did in fact interrupt us, I was just asking Artemis if she wanted me to introduce her to the other warriors in the herd" he said, throwing a sudden contrasting smile to Artemis.

Galmúr's ears pinned fully again and he could barely restrain himself from forcing Stormflash to leave them alone, but he simply took another small step forward, then glanced over to Artemis. He knew she was a strong filly, and he'd learned from experience that she didn't always appreciate someone fighting her own battles for her.

By this time Artemis herself was getting rather frustrated and annoyed with Stormflash, but she did not want to lash out with anger for the yealing was the son of the lead mare of the herd, ''Stormflash,'' she said trying hard to keep the annoyance from her voice, ''I would very honestly love to meet the other horses but I need to find my friends.'' Suddenly she saw a glint of gold and white behind Stormflash and a relieved look cane on her face. She smiled gratefully to her friends then turned back to Stormflash, ''some other time,'' she said again, stepping around him.

Sugar snorted again. "Stay away from her" she mumbled under her breath as he finally left them alone. Sugar glared at him, and watched him go, before turning to hug Artemis. "How was your day?" she asked her. "We should go graze, and then we can talk all about our days, does that sound good to you guys?" she asked, as she nuzzled each of her friends.

Stormflash's ears pinned slightly in frustration as the black friesian flashed a warm smile to her friends, then turned to him and cooly rejected his offer. His eyes narrowed slightly, he swished his tail again, then managed a forced smile to the filly. "Ah, of course then, you are tired. Another time indeed" he said, his voice indicating that he certainly would try it another time. As the golden buckskin to another angry step towards him, he tossed his mane, "Well, I have duties to attend to, patrols to organize and the like, you yearlings have a good night" he said in a patronizing tone, turning and trotting off swiftly into the herd.

Galmúr glared angrily after the departing silver yearling, then glanced over to Sugar, calming down slightly. "That sounds like a good plan" he said, shaking out his mane to dispell his nerves, then looking over to Artemis and nudging her slightly with his shoulder. "Hey, you ok?" he asked.

Artemis relaxed when Stormflash finally walked away with a toss of his mane. She looked at Sugar, ''that sounds good'', Artemis said nuzzling her back. At Galmúr's question she looked back at him, ''ya, I'm fine,'' she replied with a weary smile, ''how was your guys' day?''
