Gus looked over at Treth, and then his mentor. "Scout Treth..." Gus said, stepping up to him. "I know you need all apprentices here for this..." he said. "but my father is staying behind to help protect my little sister..." he said. "Could I stay behind as well?" he asked, looking hopeful.
Sugar looked up. "do they need any stregething herbs?" she asked. Cinnamon shook her head. "no sugar" she said. Sugar sighed, and flopped down onto the ground

Lorcán nodded, pleased all were in agreement, then looked over with a slightly disapproving glance as an apprentice stepped forward. Hearing the young stallion's question, he instead answered, as he recognized the yearling to be the son of one of his warriors. "Your father will certainly be staying back to guard her herd, but he will not be directly with your family." he spoke calmly, then glanced down at his own apprentice. It was true, all hooves available would be necessary, although he was rue to bring the young yearling to such a mission without any training. Waiting for the Head scout to deal with the apprentice, he spoke once more "Are any of your scouts out on patrol at this time?" he questioned. Galmúr caught his mentor's glance and he stood up straighter under his gaze, his own eyes wandering over to the scouts, where Artemis stood, and he grinned over at her, knowing the task they were departing on was serious... but his young mind was thrilled at the idea of adventure and battle.

Treth looked down gravely at the young apprentice who spoke to him, ''in my thoughts your father, being a very strong horse, would be able to protect your sister, but if you feel that this is where you will be of the most use, you are welcome to to go.'' Treth turned his attention back to Lorcán, ''aye, one, my fjord Earl, I generally do not allow my horses to leave on there own but he is one who prefers to stay with himself.''
Artemis flashed his fiery glance back at him, she was just as eager to go as he was.

Gus smiled and nodded a thanks. "I'll stay" he said, as he looked back at Applejack who smiled his approval.
Sugar waited until Cinnamon wasn't watching her...as she was sorting herbs, to go canter up to the group of warriors and scouts. She managed to squeeze in beside Galmur...but when he saw her, Sugar knew what he would say. So she just turned, and ran away and back to Cinnamon. "its not fair" Sugar said when she got back to her mentor. "I want to help!" she said. Cinnamon sighed. "i know you do" she said. "and we are...by getting ready"

Lorcán gave another swift nod "If he happens to return before we embark, he may join us. Tulpar will join Creampuff in guarding the herd, if you could instruct two of your scouts to stand guard as well" he said, glancing behind him to the strong black bay hanoverian that stepped forward an dipped his head. "I would be honored to guard the herd" he said solemnly. "When you return to the herd, inform our fellow warrior of the goings on, and place him on the northern edge of the herd, yourself on the eastern edge." he ordered swiftly. The stallion dipped his head "I shall, Lorcán" he responded, turning and cantering into the herd to do his bidding.
Galmúr shifted slightly impatiently at his mentor's side, excitement thrilling his veins. Suddenly he felt a light shoving and glanced over, ears pinned as he expected to see Stormflash... then his eyes widened as he saw Sugar beside him. He was about to tell her to go back before his mentor caught sight of her, when she turned and bolted back to the herd herself. He sighed slightly, glancing up at his mentor who thankfully hadn't noticed the filly.

Treth nodded and looked behind him choosing the horses, ''Nebula, Reckless, south and western corners are to be under your protection.'' They bowed and responded in unison, ''It shall be done,'' and cantered off in the direction of the herd.
Artemis noticed Sugar, she was surprised that Cinnamon would allow her to join, Artemis was about to shoot an encouraging smile her way when she weeled and galloped off.

Creampuff was keeping watch of the herd, staying close to his mate and filly, when he heard galloping. He looked around and saw Tulpar. "Tulpar, what is it?" he asked. "have the wolves attacked?" he asked.
Sugar paced nervously. "what if my friends get hurt?" she asked. "if they do, we'll take care of them" Cinnamon said. "It'll be ok" she promised. "the scouts and warriors know what they're doing" she said

Lorcán looked to Treth as he sent off two of his scouts, then glanced to the forest. "If you are prepared, as we have all gathered, shall we launch our attack immediately?" he questioned. Galmúr shifted at his side again, hoping that the answer would be yes. He couldn't wait... his first mission, if you could call it that, and with Artemis too!
Tulpar skidded to a stop in front of the white stallion, dipping his head to the mare and filly before speaking swiftly "They have not, an attack is being launched by the other warriors and scouts as we speak. You and I have been chosen to guard the herd, you on the northern edge, I on the eastern edge" he said quickly.

Treth stood tall, ''aye, we are ready,'' a fire building in his eye, the battle trill filling him.
Artemis could not hold back an impatient stamp of her hoof, she wanted to go.

Creampuff nodded. "alright" he said. "I'll go at once, just give me a moment" he said, nuzzling his mate and filly. "Be good for mama, Hazel" he said. Hazel nodded, at 5 months old, she was very strong. Creampuff nuzzled her again before trotting off to the north edge of the herd.
Sugar just watched, ears pinned to the back of her head, as she watched her friends leave. "please be safe" she whispered

Lorcán let out a powerful snort and nodded, then suddenly reared, raising his head and calling out with a trumpeting bugle. Immediately, the trained warriors shifted, creating a path behind the gray stallion, who spun on his back legs and plunged forwards, taking just a second to glance to his side. Galmúr felt a thrill race through him, fire blazing in his eyes at his mentor's call, swiftly pivoting and charging forwards, meeting his glance with a strong excited gaze. As the Head Warrior thundered towards the forest, the other warriors raced forwards, spreading out just behind their leader. Reaching the forest, Lorcán let out a strong whinny, and this time, Galmúr remembered what it meant, slamming his hooves down in exact time with the other warriors, sliding to a halt before the dark trees. "Spread yourselves out, apprentices beside their mentors" he thundered, stomping a powerful hoof as he turned his gaze to the forest. For a moment he stayed silent, listening to the shifting of the horses as they strung themselves out along the forest's edge, then he glanced to his apprentice who was beginning to move to his place. Honestly, the gray stallion was mildly impressed with his swift learning, but his gaze was stony as he spoke "This is no drill or test. If you fail to catch sight or scent or sound of the wolves, you could destroy the mission. Stay alert, and do not for one second assume these wolves will simply run from us. Be prepared, and stay strong" he said, then turned his gaze back to the forest. Galmúr looked over to his mentor with surprise as he began speaking solemnly to him, the excitement fading slightly as he realized the gray stallion was speaking the truth. This was dangerous... this was a real mission. With new strength and determination in his stance he gave a short nod "I understand" he said quietly, turning his eyes forward as well.
Tulpar nodded and spun, racing to the eastern edge and vigilantly beginning his guard.

Treth tossed his mane and galloped after Lorcán his scouts following in well trained order, Artemis keeping pace easily beside him. When they reached the forest he did not even turn to make sure his horses were in order, he knew they were. All stood still awaiting Lorcán's signal.

"how long is this going to take?" Sugar asked. "I don't know...that all depends" Cinnamon said. "Cinnamon....is it alright if I just...stay here tonight?" she asked. Cinnamon looked confused, but nodded anyway. "yea...of course, why though?" she asked. "because...I don't want to be around my friends if they're going to be bragging about the adventure that I couldn't go on" Sugar said

Lorcán's ears twitched as he heard the sound of hooves behind him quiet, indicating all were ready. Tossing his mane, he let out a strong whinny, then plunged into the forest, the warriors moving forwards as one, Galmúr charging into the forest, glancing to his right and matching his mentor's pace. The forest that had once been quiet, was now filled with rhythmic hoofbeats, as if one giant horse were galloping through the forest. The power of the hooves swept through Galmúr and he felt a thrill as never before as he cantered through the trees. A sudden crackle of brush ahead of him brought him to attention and he stiffened slightly, nostrils flaring, but he relaxed quickly as the scent of deer answered his question, the frightened doe leaping to her hooves from the thicket she lay in and bounding into the darkness. The hunt had begun.

Artemis listened to the rhythmic beating of hoof beats, suddenly beside her, the sound seemed off. Turning she saw Nacho, a determined expression replacing his friendly countenance. She realized that he had several cuts all over his body and was limping slightly in one leg, but nonetheless he marched beside the rest of the Swiftfoof horses.
