Galmúr listened carefully to the directions, then nodded, setting his gaze on the log. "When I swing the log, you complete the move" Lorcán said, stepping forward and grabbing the vines, pulling them back then letting them go. Slowly, the log swung towards Galmúr, and he swiftly reared, overreacting in his eagerness and striking out a bit too hard, his hooves cracking against the wood and sending it flinging backwards, only to be bounced back by the vines. In a moment he realized why this log was used for this training exercise, and it was only with a swift backwards leap that he avoided the log as it swung strongly right where his head had been a moment before. "And that is why it's called a thrust, not a kick" Lorcán said calmly.

Just when it seemed Artemis would drop from exhaustion Treth finally halted, ''that was ok,'' he said, ''we'll take a short rest then do it again,'' he said smiling.

Cinnamon looked at Sugar and she sighed. "are you trying to get yourself in trouble again?" she asked her. Sugar shook her head. "no" she said. Cinnamon sighed again, and nodded as they trotted back to their section of the herd

Galmúr flattened his ears in embarrasment, then gave a determined nod. "Let me try again" he said firmly. Lorcán looked at him for a moment, then slowed the log, waiting until he was ready before swinging it towards him. Galmúr rose onto his hind legs, measuring the distance, then strongly thrust out his hooves, as if he were pushing. They connected with the log and sent it backwards, but not far enough for it to have a repercussion. He gave a satisfied snort as he landed, stepping back just in case. Lorcán moved to the log and examined it, then gave a short nod. "Much better. Now do it again" he said, pulling the log back.

Artemis stood panting, trying to catch her breath. Raider walked up with a smile, ''ah, I see you are finally getting into some real scout training.'' Artemis looked back at, ''I can race you- and win,'' she said rashly, but with full confidence, ''that is, once I catch my breath.'' Raider nodded, ''I shall await the day,'' he said with mock gallantry. Artemis just gave him a challenging look, ''so will I.''

Sugar sighed. "I got to see a little bit of what my friends do" she said to Cinnamon. "and honestly, what they do seems like so much fun" she said, looking down at the ground a bit. "I mean, I love being a herd healer and all, its just that...well..." she looked at Cinnamon. "when there's no one to heal, it can be boring" Cinnamon said. Sugar nodded

Galmúr watched carefully as the log swung towards him, eyeing it calmly, then rearing up and thrusting it with already well practiced ease, the log swinging back, to where Lorcán could catch it. "Well done, that's a good round of practice" his mentor said with a surprising amount of praise and satisfaction in his tone as he moved over to his apprentice. "Now then, enough of that one." he said, glancing at the sky then back the buckskin, who had begun to sweat slightly from the rhythm-like exercise. "We have time for a quick rundown of one more, and then we must head back. This last one is similar to the rearing thrust, just backwards." he said, motioning to the log. "Let's see if you can figure it out yourself" he suggested, pulling back the log. Galmúr only had a few moments to think it through in his mind, swiftly pivoting to face away from the log, glancing over his shoulder. This would take even more precision. But he knew better than to panic.

Treth trotted up suddenly, ''ok Artemis, I think that is enough rest.'' The Frisian was still panting heavily but nodded. ''We are going to patrol the river for a change.''

Sugar sighed again. "why can't I do anything fun?" she asked. "looking for herbs is fun" Cinnamon said. Sugar nodded. "yea, thats true" she said. "i suppose we can gather some more herbs"

Galmúr's hooves thrust outwards, connecting with the log just a bit too hard and sending it swinging away as he landed on all fours, turning to see how he'd done. Lorcán stopped the log and examined it, then looked up "Too hard, and not straight. Try again" he said, pulling it back and letting it go without warning. Swiftly his apprentice spun, then slowed his mind, looking over his shoulder to be sure he was lined up, then thrusting his back hooves off the ground and pushing them out more gently, feeling them press against the wood and send it swinging away. This time, when he turned, Lorcán gave a nod. "Much more like it. Now do ten more, in succession. Let your thrust power the log to swing back to you, and then kick it again." he ordered.

The patrol toward the river was uneventful, but Artemis was grateful to be able to dip her muzzle into the cool stream.

Sugar padded into the forest with her mentor. She looked around, her ears pricked forward. “Hmm” she said. “What do we need?” Sugar asked. “Some more cobweb” Cinnamon replied. Sugar nodded and looked around for cobweb.

Galmúr was quite tired by the end of the rigorous successive thrusts, stumbling slightly at the last one, embarrassedly finding his footing as he breathed hard. Lorcán gave a slight nod "Well done, now then, by the time we reach the warriors once again, it shall be time to rest. We may pause training for the day once we reach them" he said brusquely, motioning for his apprentice to move forwards. Galmúr blinked. All the way back... immediately? But he quickly nodded, seeing his mentor was waiting with an unimpressed look, and trotting forwards. But Lorcán did not give him an option of going back easily. He leapt forward, his hooves crashing into the dirt as he almost thundered on top of his apprentice. Galmúr's eyes widened and he swiftly leapt forwards. So THIS was how training would be each day!! With already ragged breath, he forced himself into a canter, his legs extending to get himself some distance as he felt his mentor's hooves clip his own.

Treth and Artemis trotted beside the stream for some time......before they spotted five unfamiliar horses in the distance. ''Who are they,'' Artemis asked. ''No one we know. Come we must alert the lead mare,'' with that he spun around and took off at full gallop toward the herd, Artemis right beside him.

Sugar spotted some cobweb and pointed with her nose. "cobweb, up there" she said to Cinnamon. Cinnamon nodded, and she slammed against the tree, which made the cobwebs fall. Sugar gently picked up the cobweb, and so did Cinnamon, before they began walking back to the herd. "oh! can I get some water from the stream real quick?" Sugar asked. Cinnamon nodded and Sugar set her cobweb down and dipped her muzzle in the stream to take a drink
