Eldor paced the hot decks of the coastal village of Pacifilly. He needed a ship and needed one fast. He allowed his eyes to rove over the names quickly, Lobster Breath, The Courier, Sea Cow, Wave Dancer, The Swooping Gull. But unfortunately none would suit his purpose, as they were too slow, or not going in the direction he wished. Suddenly his eye alighted on a beautiful ship, and realizing it was sailing north, the direction he wanted. His eyes widened suddenly at its name, The Rum Cask. Well names didn't matter he thought, as long as it was going where he wanted. He deliberately made his way toward the ship, to inquire after the fare.

He found the fare reasonable, and began boarding the ship. He was walking up the boarding boards when he saw a dimwitted boy about his age swinging around on the rigging ropes. Eldor watched him with disapproval, when the boy collided head first with the main mast, and fell to the floor, where he sat rubbing his head with a rueful look. Eldor shook his head and walked below deck, where he found himself the cabin that the guy he had asked about the fare had assigned him to. He entered it, and set down his bundle that he carried with him.

Eldor set down the bundle, and pulled out a slip of paper, reading through it quickly, then replacing it.

Kastron rubbed his head. He was a little annoyed that he had taken a fall. In his defense, he had been distracted by some strange newcomer that had come on deck. He had been dressed in a way that had been somewhat unusual to Kastron, and the way he talked sounded a different too. Kastron had been rather curious abut him, for boys his age aboard the ship were few and far between. However, when he had gotten off the floor, he couldn't spot the other boy anywhere.

After settling in Eldor made his way back onto the deck hoping under no circumstances to run into that dimwitted acting boy. Leaning casually against the railing he allowed the cool sea breeze brush through his hair. He noticed dark clouds in the northern sky, ''great,'' he muttered to himself, ''the first day I set foot upon a ship there's a storm rolling in.''

Kastron had gone below deck in search of the boy he had seen earlier. He peeked into most of the cabins, and after still no progress in finding him sneaked into the galley, trying to avoid his aunt at all costs, as she would probably make him do some sort of cleaning, which he detested. The galley was also empty, save for some sea biscuits that his aunt was probably going to serve at lunch time. He looked around to make sure no one was watching him, then began stuffing his pockets with a large number of the biscuits. His pockets were almost filled up with the crumbling things, when he heard his heavy aunts footsteps advancing toward the doorway. He bolted out the galley and ran back u on deck as fast as he could.

At the sound of running footsteps, Eldor turned and adopted a defensive posture. Realizing that it was only that boy, he resumed watching the churning grey sea.

Kastron stopped short when he noticed he was about to run into the stranger. He stared at him. "What, ye've never laid eyes on an ocean 'fore or what?" He had'nt exactly meant to be rude, but unfortunately it sounded very much so.

Eldor looked down at the shorter boy, no of course he had never seen the ocean before, but Eldor did not care to tell him so. As a fact he even had a hard time keeping his feet on the heaving deck. He clutched the railing harder as the ship broke a large wave. ''Of course I've seen oceans before,'' he answered, annoyed. On maps, he thought to himself.

Kastron eyed him suspiciously. "Well, you don't look it. You're mighty white,I would say."

"I -,'' he faltered as the ship lurched suddenly, regaining his balance, he began again, ''well i'm not some cabin boy.''

"Is that so?", asked Kastron. He felt anger rise in him, and he was trying hard to control it. His mind raced as he thought of a response that was sufficiently insulting "I could slice and dice ye up any day, in a swordfight.",was what he came up with. He was going to add to that, when a young girl about nine years of age flounced onto the deck, calling for someone in the most annoying manner. "Kasy!" She ran up to Kastron, who was slightly embarassed about his nickname. "Kasy, Auntie says the floor boards must be scrubbed until she can see her face in them." "How nice of her to finally think of that", Kastron said. "The bucket 's b'low decks and ye're old enough to." In most cases Kastron probably would not have responded like that, but Eldor was watching him, and Kastron did not wish to appear as a pushover.

Eldor watched the exchange impassively, but smirked slightly at the young girls name for the boy. ''Yes Kasy the decks must be washed until they are spotless,'' he said sarcastically.

Kastron glared at Eldor from the corner of his eye. It irked him that Eldor had the upper hand in the dispute right now. The girl meanwhile, was still busy talking at waterspout pace. "Kasy if you don't go down right this minute and do it, ye'll be sorry to be alive." Kastron shoved her by side roughly. Here he was, in the middle of a notable argument, and here was his sister, with nothing better to do but make everything harder. "Lay it off an' go scrub the decks yourself, squidface." Kastron's sister, whose name was Emmalinda, opened her mouth in an attempt to say something smarter than her brother. Unfortunately for her, he beat her to it. "And while your at it, go wash out your face, it looks worse than a pufferfishes behind." "Oh you...",she broke off in the middle of her sentence , and a mocking smile spread across her face. "Alright, Kasy, you asked for it." The boys watched her as her face distorted into a mix of crying and screaming, and she ran below decks as if being chased by a killer whale.
