Juhi blinked, pressing her pelt to Maple's. "I wasn't gone that long, was I?" She tilted her head in confusion. Eventually, she ended up just shaking her head, "Oh well." She mewed, "Let's go inside before I freeze my paws off. I'm cold."

"Perfect." Sabra purred, "How about Robyn for the other she-kit? Her pelt looks like the embers of a fire." She purred, looking at the kits fondly. "Oh- and perhaps Umber for the little tom?"

[Abbster]

"no...no" Maple said. "its just...that" she said, as she and Juhi walked into the barn. When they did, Maple heard talking, her ears pricked. "OH!" She said, suddenly. "I think Pixie kitted!" she said. "we'll let them be with their kits....but Juhi I need to talk to you" she said, looking at her paws.

Pixie smiled. "I love it" she purred, nuzzling her mate, as their three kits settled down for sleep. Pixie snuggled against her mate and closed her eyes, as she slept with her three new kits.

Sabra smiled, watching over her mate as she slept. Poor Pixie must be exhausted from the kitting.

Juhi grinned at the thought of Sabra finally having kits of her own, although, why did Maple want to talk to her? "If you want to talk, we should go back outside." She said softly, "I don't want us to wake the whole barn." She teased.

Maple nodded and padded back outside with her mate. The dark night, and cool breeze ruffling their fur. Maple sat down and looked at her paws a bit. “Juhi….” She said. “Do you love me?” Maple asked. “As a friend I mean….do you love me?” She asked again.

Juhi tilted her head, "Of course I love you, Silly." She purred, "You're a wonderful friend. Sometimes I shut down quite a bit, like today. Sometimes everything just gets... too much." She said, her words trailing off. They were nearly to the forest now, at the horse pasture when Maple had sat.

“I’m sorry” Maple mumbled. “I’m so sorry” she said, pressing into her friend. “Its Tern….she got into my head.” Maple said, her pelt trembling. “She told me….she told me I hurt you” she whispered. “I would never purposefully hurt my best friend” Maple said. “You mean the world to me” she purred. “I love you more than anything….and seeing you with Tern” she looked down. “Juhi…it made me….jealous” she said

Juhi nodded, "Maple... Tern can come across ah- strong- sometimes." She said sheepishly, "I grew up with her. In an awful place. It took me ages to warm up to other cats, to stop running from every new stranger I met- remember when we first met? I practically ran up a tree and hid. Tern took it differently..." She said, her voice quiet. "Tern started challenging any stanger, anycat she's perceived as a threat. She doesn't know how to react to new cats. She's never learned how... so, she lashes out at anycat that she doesn't know or trust." She finished. "She's basically like an adopted littermate to me. We're close because we have an... understanding. We were friends before, but even now, each us of us know why the other does a certain thing." She said, staring at the moon. "Tern saw you and me walking into the barn, and she took you as a threat. She saw how you looked at me, how we talk, and she took the first opportunity to leap upon it. You both are, in a weird, messed up way, in the same situation. Tern doesn't know how to take me having a... friend, and you have never seen me with her, you've only heard stories... it was bound to be a shock for both of you. I should've prepared you better."

Maple looked at her best friend. “No…no…no.” Maple said. “I don’t blame you” she said. “But…did I hurt you?” She asked, pressing against her best friend, licking her ears. “I love you. Juhi” she whispered. “You found me. Right after I buried my kits. It took me a while to trust you” she said. “But now that I do…I couldn’t live without you” she purred, licking her ear again. “Juhi, do you want to stay out here tonight?” She asked. “Together…”

Juhi blinked. Once. Twice. “You didn’t hurt me Maple.” She said, her expression somewhat shocked, “Is that what Tern said? Actually, yes, that’s definitely what she said.” She mewed with an exasperated sigh. “We were both exhausted and aggravated, we were bound to be a bit snappish.” She teased, a soft smile crossing her face. “I’d love to do that, sleep under the stars…,” She hesitated slightly, “…But I’m very cold. I think my tail might fall off if we don’t build a nest out of something at least.” She added.

Maple purred. “Is it to much to ask if you can talk to her?” Maple asked as she looked around for something to make a best. She eventually found some moss, so she padded over to it and grabbed a bunch before she began to put it into a small pile. To make a nest. When the nest was finished, Maple climbed into it, Juhi climbing in after her. Maple purred again, and then she licked her best friend between the ears. “I love you Juhi” she whispered.

Juhi laughed, "I was planning on talking to her in the morning anyways, it should be an interesting conversation." She snorted, padding after Maple and snatching up her own bundle of moss, adding it to Maple's already thick pile of the stuff. She watched as Maple climbed inside, nimbly slipping inside after her. She curled up next to her friend, pressing her pelt against her. Maple licked her between the ears and she loosed a quiet purr, "I love you too Maple." She said quietly, looking up at the night sky through narrowed eyes. "Look." She whispered, "The moon, the stars, they follow us wherever we go. It's like they watch over us, even when we can't see them." Perhaps stargazing in a mossy nest, curled up with a friend wasn't exactly a friend activity. She hoped that Maple hadn't noticed her breathless replies and her racing heart.

Maple was curled up with Juhi, and when she spoke, Maple listened. Although, she was very tired. Curling up close to Juhi, she fell asleep as her eyes closed. She woke the next morning to birds chirping. Stretching in the mossy nest, she licked Juhi between the ears. “We should be heading back” she said, as she looked around and spotted a starling in the tree. Maple swiftly climbed up the tree and crouched low, catching the starling and then dropping it into the mossy nest below.

She let out a grumble, leaving her eyes closed as Maple climbed out from the nest. "I'll head back in a bit." She mumbled, drifting off again. She practically leapt out of the nest with a startled screech as a starling plopped down upon her. She stared at it for a moment before her gaze flicked upwards and she began to laugh. Not a i'm-trying-to-make-people-happy laugh, or a yes-i'm-definitely-okay laugh. This was a oh-my-stars-moon-and-earth-i-am-so-getting-back-at-her-later-but-that-was-actually-so-funny-i-love-her-so-much laugh. She snatched up the bird and scrambled up the tree after Maple, sitting besides her on a rather thick branch and putting the bird down between them, still blinking a bit of sleep from her eyes. "Wow." She mewed, trying to repress a purr as she rolled her eyes at her... friend.

Maple looked at Juhi. “What’s up with you?” She asked, nuzzling her a bit. “I could hear the tone in your voice last night. It wasn’t normal.” She added. “Whats wrong?” She asked her best friend.

Pixie stirred. The sleep she had the night after kitting was amazing. She looked over at Sabra and purred, before looking back down at her kicks, who were snuggled up beside her.

Juhi tilted her head to the side, flicking her ear. "Nothing." She mewed, trying to pass it off for being sleepy. "We were just both super tired." She said with a slightly amused snort. "And I like the notion of the sun, the stars, the moon- the sky, really, watching over me. Always. It's constantly keeping me company when no other cat will."

Sabra smiled, though her eyelids drooped. She'd stayed awake all night watching over her mate and kits. But she would stay up even longer. She would protect Pixie and their newborn kits, and she would spend her life doing so without hesitation. Pixie began to stir, looking up at her then back at the kits. "Morning." She purred, nuzzling her mate. "Tern said she'd bring us another rabbit in a bit." She said happily, trying not to show her clear exhaustion.
