Charger realized what Elara was saying actually made sense. “Now that I can do” he said. “I think the best way to do is to just not annoy her” he said, thinking. “Yea I can do that” charger said, determined now. “Thanks Elara” he nickered, nuzzling her a bit. “You some how always know what to say” he said. A light wind ruffled Chargers mane and he had to shake himself to get his forelock out of his mane. He looked at Elara. “Would you mind if I grazed with you guys?” Charger asked as his long dark mane began flowing with the wind.

"Well....you know that I am a mare, right? We know each other fairly well. There are two types of mares. There are the softer ones, that like to take things slow. They are the ones, who are usually the best parents. Then there are the fiery, hardheaded types. The ones who prefer to run with the colts and stallions. They mean business most of the time, and they don't feel that calling to be a mother on the spot, like so many do. maybe your sister is looking for a mate, and doesn't want you embarrassing her," Elara says, scuffing a hoof into the grass. "If you want to, you are more than welcome to. Just don't eat too much, or too fast. You'll get an upset stomach that way," She says.

"I know" Charger said, then he realized what Elara had said. "I never thought about it that way" He said. "I don't know if I want her finding a mate" Charger said. "If she finds a mate then she'll be with him...and then they could leave the herd to start their own herd" he said with a sigh. Finally, Charger gave in and began grazing beside his best friend. His tail continued flicking behind him, and he felt his mind whirling with thoughts of his sister leaving the herd. Sure he annoyed her...but he loved his big sister. He didn't want her to leave. "I don't think I want Mystic to leave if she finds a mate" Charger finally said, looking at the grass, and realizing he wasn't hungry anymore.

"Well, not every herd couple leaves the herd, you know? Your parents and my parents are still here. Striker and Wisteria could've told them to leave, but they didn't. Some horses feel compelled to leave, to start a life for themselves. There's nothing wrong with that. If she finds a mate and leaves, it's because she wants to. That should be her choice alone. I'm sure that when she does find a mate, it's something that she may consider, and she may also consider the feelings of her family," Elara says, as she eats. She knew....that when the time came, she would probably leave the herd, once she found a mate. But right now, she wasn't in a rush at all, to find a partner. She could enjoy her time here, in the herd, while enjoying the companionship of her friends.

Charger smiled at her. “Thanks Elara” he said, as he munched in some grass. He flicked his ears now and again as he could hear the sounds of birds singing every now and then. Eventually, another light breeze ruffled his mane. “The feeling of the fall breeze ruffling your mane.” He suddenly said. “It’s probably going to be winter soon” he pointed out. “Of course, I don’t have any idea when that will be” Charger said, laughing at his own joke as he continued to graze. He loved the feeling of the wind blowing through his dark mane. It pushed it to the side and gave his neck a chance to cool off.

"You don't need to thank me, you know? We're friends, and we'll always be there for one another," Elara says, raising her head up. She was finished eating, and felt like going for a swim. "I think that I'm going to go to the lake. I want to go and swim. If I'm lucky, then Crusade will not be there. He doesn't own the lake," She says, as she looks at the river, knowing that it led straight to the large body of water. She loved the feeling of water on her body, washing away dirt and bits of grass. She knew that she enjoyed it more than Charger did, but to her, the water was something that was very comfortable. It was going to be winter soon, so she wanted to get one more swim in, before the temperature dropped, and the lake froze over.

“Don’t freeze your tail off” Charger joked as he watched her to. He debated on joining her, and then decided he wanted to swim as well. He trotted to the lake and then trotted into it with Elara. He let the water flow over his back and it felt amazing. He smiled at Elara and then splashed her with his mane, whinnying . He began to pawing at the water, which created some what of a current. He smiled at Elara and then he began trotting around in the water some more. Tossing his mane from his eyes to get it out of his face.

"We'll see who is freezing whose tail off, when we're done," Elara says, her tail swishing back and forth. Taking off in a canter, she runs all the way over to the lake, stopping just at the shore. She surveys the water, taking in its beauty. It would be frozen over, by the middle of winter, and she wouldn't be able to swim during that time. Stepping into the water, she begins to wade through the shallows, enjoying the coolness of the water, while taking the time to enjoy the way the current flows around her legs, lapping up at her sides. "This place is perfect. I love it," She says, as she starts to swim a bit deeper, keeping an ear open for Crusade.

Charger laughed. “Be careful Elara” he called as she went deeper into the water. Charger on the other hand bent his muzzle and began to drink some of the water. The water was cool and it flowed over his muzzle and into his mouth. Charger smiled and then lifted his muzzle out of the water. Shaking his mane as water droplets sprayed off his muzzle. He trotted farther into the water and over to Elara. He nudged her. “I think we should stay alert while in here” he said. “We both know how angry Crusade will be if he finds us in here” he said. “Which is stupid because he thinks he owns all the land around him. But he doesn’t.” He added

"I will. You don't have to worry about me," Elara says. She knew where to be in the water. The lake did have some deeper parts, where she couldn't touch the lake floor, but she usually never went that far, unless it was an incredibly brutal summer.....with pounding heat, that stretched across the land like a blanket. As she wades through the water, she keeps her ears pricked and alert. "So far, I think that we're fine. But I'm keeping alert. Crusade might have gone further south with his herd. The cold weather will be moving in soon, and he always leaves before we do," She says. The herds often moved a bit further south, when the brutal winters hit. Between the lake and river freezing, the vegetation dying, and the land being covered in snow, it was practically unlivable during winter.

Charger nodded. “We can only hope” he said as he began to get colt. Pulling himself out from the water, Charger shakes off his bat coat and then watches as Elara continued to enjoy the coldness of it. “You win” Charger said. “I got cold” he joked as he watched Elara continue to walk around. Charger lay down on the grass and soon he began rolling. Charger loved to roll after he had just been in the water. It was one of the things he did most often after a good swim. The grass felt good on his spine as he rolled. When he finished, he stood up and shook himself once again, sending little blades of grass flying everywhere.

Looking over at Charger, Elara raises a brow. "This wasn't a competition, Charger. I know that you're competitive. But that wasn't why I came here. I enjoy this place, and I want to be able to enjoy it, before the water freezes over. We're both not really all that good, when it comes to cold. I just know that this water is going to get even colder. Last year, it was so cold, that you couldn't swim in it. It was completely frozen over," She says, as she follows him out of the lake, vigorously shaking the water from her coat. She wasn't in the mood to roll, since someone needed to keep watch, in case Crusade and his herd, hadn't actually left the area, and were possibly still hanging around.

Charger laughed. “Oh I know” he said. “But I’m pretty sure my tail ended up freezing” he joked, tossing his long mane again. Charger looked up when he heard hood beats. “Crusade” he whispered to Elara as the lead stallion lead his herd towards the lake. Charger shuddered a bit. Thursday stallion was something else. He tried to take Mystic from his parents when she was still very very young. His herd was the rival to Charger and Elaras herd. Crusade stood there, watching Charger and Elara as he bent his head for some water. Charger snorted. “Should we..” he stopped and just stared at Crusade.

Looking over at the thundering hooves, Elara's ears immediately flatten against her head. She really didn't like Crusade, as did many from her herd. He was a very strong and imposing stallion, who knew what he wanted. He had wanted Mystic, to have another mare for his herd, but Charcoal had stopped him. "We should go. I don't like conceding. But this isn't worth it, especially with winter fast approaching. Let's get back," She says, watching the black and white paint stallion, as she exits the water, stepping back on land. She knew that she wouldn't hesitate to kick the stallion in the teeth, should he choose to come over here. She could fight her own battles, but she wasn't naive. She could trust that Charger would have her back, should Crusade push his luck. "Do I have your back, Charger?" She asks.

"Always" Charger promised her. "I'm always beside you, Elara, no matter what" Charger promised, as he looked at Crusade and his herd. Charger let out a snort of anger and his tail lashed behind him. Keeping his gaze firmly on the stallion's herd, Charger began to paw at the ground a bit. "If we don't go, you know what will happen" Charger whispered to Elara. "We need to tell the lead stallion at once" He said, watching as Crusade and his herd suddenly stopped. Charger's heart began to pound. Charger was sure it was pounding so loud that Elara could hear it. Charger looked at Crusade and then back at Elara. "We can't fight him" He said. "There's two of us, and twenty or more of them" Charger said, not actually having a real idea of how many horses were in Crusade's herd.
