There were no words to truly do justice to the good something as simple as access to a hot bath and a bar of soap could do a person. Sure, it wouldn't fix anything, but Cass felt a lot fresher than she had prior to bathing. She'd need to get something for the pain, maybe some sour leaf to chew or if the inn had access to any, some milk of the poppy. That would help her sleep as well. Her hair no longer had dried clumps of blood matted in with the hair. And it would do her wounds good as well to finally be properly cleaned with warm water. Once she had dried herself off, she carefully bandages up each wound. It would look bulky underneath her night clothes, and it might restrict her movement a bit, but it would keep then clean and prevent a worse infection from setting in. Once she was dressed, she grabs a comb from her bag and steps out of the side room into the main room. "I'll see about having them refresh the water for you" she says as she spots Lockian in the armchair. She'd need to get the bedroll from the wagon anyway, since there was only one bed in the room, so she could take care of that at the same time.

As he waited Lockian observed their room, it was small but still roomy and the furnishings were comfortable. Once Cassidy stepped out of the other room he was very relieved to find that she seemed to be looking a lot better, though with Cassidy it is sometimes difficult to tell since she was very good at hiding her emotions and knew how to cover up pain. He had already brought up his bedroll since it was part of his personal belongings, and, though he knew Cassidy wouldn't like it, asked anyway, ''Cassidy would you take the bed tonight? You still appear slightly feverish and I would feel more at ease if you did, up away from the drafts and such things.'' He was used to sleeping in uncomfortable places, not that he considered the floor uncomfortable but it would definitely be an upgrade from the stable where he had been planning to sleep earlier.

Cass pauses in the doorway to the room and brings a hand up to her forehead to check her temperature. Though she knew it would do little good. If she was indeed burning up, she couldn't tell. She opens her mouth to protest, but relents when a slight shiver runs through her. "I suppose... might be for the best" she says, running a hand through her short curly hair. He did have a point, loathe as she was to admit it. She wasn't in peak physical condition at the moment and sleeping where the drafts would reach her wouldn't do her any good. It felt almost odd to think that he cared enough about her well-being to take the floor when she was perfectly willing to let him have the bed. Why did it feel so odd? Had she not had anyone who cared to step in before when she was doing poorly? It was a sobering thought. She was only pulled from her train of thought by the metallic taste of blood in her mouth. Her sharper canines must have bit into her tongue while she was lost in thought.

Lockian was very relieved to have her agree with him on this point, it would definitely not have been a pleasant feeling to be healthy and asleep in a bed while his friend was lying on the floor with a fever. He stopped suddenly, did he just call her his friend? He had never thought that their meeting to grow into a friendship, but was he ready to take the risk of placing his trust into her as a friend? Lockian didn't know, he was still unsure. Too many times in the past was he betrayed by people he thought he trusted and who he thought of as friends. He shook his head, this feeling was something new to think about before accepting. He stood up, ''why dont we eat while we wait for the water to be changed out,'' he suggested. He wasn't sure if Cassidy would feel like eating much but he asked her anyway, they had had a long trip after all.

"Probably should... I don't think we've eaten since breakfast." Cass says. She wasn't sure, maybe he had snacked on some of their provisions while they had been on the road. And maybe he hadn't. She had been focused on keeping an eye out for trouble. Though even if he had snacked, that wasn't a meal. She hadn't really felt hungry, probably due to being feverish. But she had to keep her strength up and that meant eating something anyway. She had to have the strength to travel and kick this infection, minor as it was. She didn't want to have to seek medical attention.

''Good,'' Lockian answered, he was very hungry though he did eat a little earlier in the day for the sake of the upkeep of his strength on the long journey. He put aside his bow and arrows and his cloak before making his way downstairs. Once he came downstairs he stood in the doorway a little stiffly. The room was quite full and though he was in general a more social person, he did not feel like talking with people or trying to make conversation with strangers at the moment. He glanced around trying to find seating, ''where would you like to sit,'' he asked Cassidy hoping she had spotted an open table.

"There’s an open table there by the hearth. We could probably sit there." Cass says, gesturing in the direction of the table. It had exactly two chairs, so they wouldn't have to worry about any particularly gregarious individual inviting themselves to take a seat with them. Whether she had been particularly social before all of this, she had no way of knowing. Though such a possibility seemed highly unlikely. Either way, right now she was achy and tired, and she definitely did not want to deal with making small talk with strangers. She had admittedly come to grow fond of Lockian's company, in her own odd way. She wasn't the best at expressing such things, but she did her best to look out for him, as she had done during the skirmish with those brigands.

Lockian looked in the direction she referred to and nodded once he saw the more secluded table, he also liked the fact that it was warm, ''yes that is a good place.'' He wove through the maze of people and tables that filled the room until finally he made it to their table and sat down with a sigh. It was a little quieter where they were though there was still a few tables about them with a some men sitting over their last glasses of dark foaming beer. ''I did want to ask,'' he said once they found their seats, ''when we reach this castle how simple, or maybe a better term, how hard is it to become a mercenary?''

Cass lowers herself gingerly into the seat across from Lockian. She glances over at one of the nearby tables at the sound of a clatter as one of the men knocked down a half drunk glass of beer in a clumsy, drunken attempt at standing up. Perhaps a drink was in order tonight she mused as she turned her mismatched gaze back over to Lockian upon hearing his question. "Can't say for certain... I don't remember what I was doing career wise before this. Could have been a mercenary for all I know, or could have held a different position. I reckon it depends on who you're working for. Mercenaries tend to move from place to place offering their services to whoever has the coin to pay. Rarely will they stay in one place for too long. But as long as you can use a weapon, I wouldn't worry too much. Shouldn't be too hard to make a deal" she says.

Lockian nodded, he was unused to this sort of life but he knew that he could adjust easily... he had gotten used to that. A woman suddenly came up to their table with two steaming plates of mutton, she set them down with a clatter before straightening, ''like an'thing else,'' she asked in a bored voice. ''I would appreciate a drink,'' Lockian responded. The lady rolled her eyes, '' ya sure, and you,'' she asked Cassidy wiping a hand on her already dirty apron before placing it on her hip. Lockian raised an eyebrow at the woman's attitude and arrogant demeanor.

"Whiskey if at all possible. If not, then beer would be fine." Cass says. Whiskey would be stronger, which she would certainly appreciate. But if nothing else, a glass or two of beer could do the trick. She had no desire to get drunk to the point of losing her wits, but a little bit would hopefully make it easier for her to sleep. She could probably find an apothecary nearby if she was desperate for some sour leaf or milk of the poppy for the pain, but she had no desire to head out into the cold to look and see if she could find one. It seemed like the first snowfall of the year would probably come early in autumn, it would probably be a brutal winter this year. But a drink or two would help her relax a bit, make it easier to ignore the pain. This woman's demeanor was irksome, but she was trying to ignore that fact. Once they had their drinks, they wouldn't see her again anyway, or at least they wouldn't be likely too.

The woman sighed loudly and flounced off complaining loudly to herself about people always wanting to be complicated and not make things easier on hard working folk by just buying the same type of drink. Lockian just blinked and shook his head and turned his attention back to the plate before him. After taking a few bites of his meal he looked up again, ''what time do you want to leave tomorrow,'' he asked, depending on how well Cassidy was feeling the next morning they might even stay another day to rest up and regain some strength, though he knew that, if Cassidy was feeling up to it, they could probably make the journey, especially since they had a horse.

"Probably best to leave early... we'll cover more ground that way. But we would do well to pick up supplies while we're here, a saddle and tack for your horse at the very least." Cassidy says, cutting up her mutton. She wasn't feeling all that hungry, but she knew that she needed to eat. It would be unwise to skip two meals in a row when they still another leg of their journey to complete, especially considering she was working on kicking an infection as well. They could probably head out as soon as they had a saddle and tack. With any luck, they could arrive at Lord Addaway's land by evening fall tomorrow. They had covered more ground today than they had the day before, now that they had the horse for the entirety of the day's travel despite their injuries. Hopefully tomorrow would be the same. She wouldn't be back to one hundred percent by the morrow, but she was determined to reach their destination regardless.

Lockian nodded, he could tell by the determination in her voice that she was not going to stay in this city longer than need be. He was fine with getting up and going early anyway. The woman got back and put their drinks on the table sloshing some of the liquid out of the cups. Lockian hid a disgusted face, ''thank you ma'am'' he said as politely as he could. She just rolled her eyes again and went off to attend to another table. Lockian took a drink and sighed in contentment. He finished his food quickly as he was very hungry from the long trip, he sat back and pushed his plate forward. For the quality of service the meal was actually very good and now all he wanted was a warm bath and a full nights sleep. He stood, ''the water should be changed by now, I'll go up and get a rinse,'' he told Cassidy as he pushed in his chair.

Cass nods slightly, picking up her goblet of whiskey. Her mismatched gaze lingers on the dark amber liquid in the goblet. "I'm probably going to get another drink first, but I'll be back up in the room afterwards" she says, looking up briefly from her drink. She wouldn't be lingering down here too much longer... it was much too noisy for her liking. Even at this rather late hour. Thankfully the second floor where the rooms were located seemed to be much quieter. She just needed another drink before she would be ready to settle down for the night. Hopefully it would quiet her mind just a bit, enough that she could sleep. She would have expected her mind to be quiet without the presence of any memories to reminisce on. But it almost seemed like her mind was never quiet. And the thoughts that coursed through her mind often disgusted her. Vengeance... towards whomever left her in this state. Though she kept her inner turmoil well hidden behind lock and key. Who could she have been? To have such dark thoughts coursing through her mind? Perhaps it was better that she did not know. Perhaps some details were indeed best left in the past. She didn't want to believe that she had been something... someone vile. Perhaps she should just push all those thoughts away and take the opportunity to reinvent herself. Either way, tomorrow was a new day and when it came they'd have to hit the road again. She'd have to see how she was feeling by morning. Hopefully rested and ready to move. Either way, she had no intention of delaying their journey on her account.
