(XD create unknown drama lol. Ummmm idk i mean she is old by horse years, right? She's had what.... four kids? three? Mebbe another one? or somethings wrong with the dad? your choice lol)
Twilight ducked as snow dusted her coat, and she let out another chuckle, shaking herself. Then she stiffened in fear, and looked over at Midnight. "Mother" she said softly, spinning and racing after her sister, making sure not to pass her. Whatever was going on, she wanted her sister to be there with her.

Midnight slowed to a walk when she came to her mom. "Dad?" Midnight mumbled. Both her little siblings were there, along with Oreo. Tears started flowing down Midnight's face. "Oreo" Midnight chocked. "what's wrong with him?" She stepped forward more and Sunlight came over, resting her tail on Midnights back. "Your father coliced girls." Sunlight said. "But...theres...theres gotta be something you can do" Midnight pleaded. Oreo shook her head. Starlight and Nightlight were pressed against their father. "There....there has to be something you can do" Midnight said again. Oreo looked at them. "I'm sorry." she said. "you know how deadly colic is for an old horse, I did everything I could, but he just didn't make it." Midnight broke into tears and ran to her fathers side. "Daddy" she muttered, laying on the ground and pressing her face into her fathers cold coat. "no...no...NO!!" She was sobbing now and she kept her head pressed into his coat.

Twilight's heart turned to stone the minute she saw her families faces, and her knees locked. No... she'd hardly even spoken to him!! Not since they'd gotten back! She'd figured they would have time... Tears were pouring down her face as she stood still in shock. Sunlight came over to her and put her head over her neck, pulling her into herself. "I know Twilight, I know" she said, her own voice hitching. Twilight buried her face in her mother's chest, letting herself sob. She could feel wet tears staining her own neck from her mother, and she pressed against her harder, the two comforting each other. She could dimly hear Midnight sobbing, and turned her head to see her, taking a step towards her. Her mother followed, and the two of them lay down on either side of Midnight, pressing against her comfortingly. This death, although a natural course in the circle of life, would darken their days considerably.

"Daddy please" Midnight wailed. "I never got to tell you how much I love you. Twily and I have barley talked to you since we got back from the barn." Her heart broke into a thousand pieces. This death was harder than watching her loose her son slowly. Her voice breaking more as she spoke. "Tell Freckles I miss him" Starlight and Nightlight were pressing into Midnight. Her entire family grieving their father and mate. She felt herself wail into her fathers body. More of the herd was coming towards them now. Specks, Beauty, Stardust, Rusty, Songbird, and Nutmeg were among them. Oreo stepped in front of the grieving family. "Leave them" she simply said. "But those are our mates." Specks said, as he looked at Midnight. "I know, but they to be alone." she said. Slowly, the herd left them alone again. Midnight knew her mate just wanted to make her feel better, but whatever he did couldn't help the way she was feeling at that moment. Her father was dead, she would never see him again. With her face pressed into her fathers pelt, she pressed her body against her mother.
"Dad" Stardust said. She looked at her father. Beauty and Stardust had just seen there mother, grandmother, aunts and uncle crying. "is mom gonna be ok?" she asked. Specks nuzzled his oldest daughter. "yea" he said. "just don't expect her back tonight, I think she'll need to sleep with her mother." Stardust nodded, while Beauty was very confused as to what was going on

Twilight hardly even registered the other horses come and go, huddled with Midnight and her mother next to their father. "I love you Dad" she whispered, pressing her head to his cold nose. Tears were still sliding down her muzzle unhindered, and she turned her head to bury it in Midnight's neck, seeking refuge in her grieving sister.

Midnight hardly noticed when night came. Oreo finally padded over with Rusty by her side. "As there are so many herbs to carry, I needed a little bit of help." She instructed Rusty to give the family the herbs and then leave. "These will help you sleep" she said. Midnight ate the herbs and she slowly fell asleep beside her mother. She woke up in the middle of the night and gazed at the stars. "Good bye dad" She whispered, tears falling down her face. "I love and miss you so much" she said. She yawned and she fell asleep again, pressing into her sister for warmth.

Twilight looked up slightly as Rusty approached, the compassion and sadness in his eyes making her dry eyes tear up once again as they shared a long look before she turned back to her family. Accepting the herbs, she fell asleep quickly, exhausted by the emotional drama. Her dreams were troubled ones of each of her family member's deaths, from her mother to Beauty, and she moaned and groaned for half the night, twitching in pain and terror. Late in the night she awoke with a gasp, eyes snapping open, heart pounding as she looked around frantically. The night was chilly, and her mother and sister lay sleeping next to her. For a moment she thought it had ALL been a dream.. until she realized the cold figure laying in front of them. Tears slid down her cheeks and she rested her head gently on her father's body. "I'm sorry father, I wish we could have spoken. Please know that I love you, and always will!" she said, closing her eyes in grief.

Midnight woke up the next morning, feeling dull. She yawned and pressed her nose into her fathers body once again. "I can't believe he's really gone" she muttered, tears running down her face as the early morning breeze made her shiver. "I miss him so much" Starlight pressed into her. "Me too" she muttered. Nightlight looked at his older sisters and then back down at his father. "I love you dad" he said. He was unable to bear this, he pressed his face into Midnights side and wailed. Midnight pulled her little brother into a tight hug and cried with him. "It'll be ok Nightlight" she promised, her voice breaking with each word. "He's watching over us with Freckles." she said. "Will he take care of Freckles?" Starlight asked. Midnight nodded, pulling her little sister into a hug as well. "We love you so much dad" she said to her fathers cold body.

Twilight woke at her families voices, raising her head from her father's cold shoulder as she looked over at them. Her heart felt as frozen as the ground beneath her as she turned to nuzzle Starlight and Midnight, eyes dry. Although her heart felt like crying, all her tears were gone, and now only a numb ache remained.

Midnight knew she had to get back to Specks, but she honestly didn't want to leave her familys side. Oreo was back and she was checking on them. "Sunlight, you have to tell the herd." she said. Sunlight gazed at Oreo, her eyes dark with pain. She shook her head. "I can't" she simply mumbled. Oreo nodded. "Riverland Mountain Herd!" Oreo called. "Gather to hear my words." The herd was waking up and they started to make there way over to the lead family. Once the entire herd had arrived, Oreo spoke. "You all know that something horrible happened yesterday." she started. She looked back at the grieving family before continuing. "Unfortunately, our lead stallion, Dark as Night has passed away from colic." The herd grew instantly silent and then they all called out his name remembering him. "Herd dismissed, except for Specks and Rusty." she said. Starlight and Nutmeg lead the yearlings away from their parents and Specks and Rusty stepped forward. "I'm not sure how long Midnight and Twilight will need to be with their mother, it could be a few days, it could be a few weeks, just know that they are hurting right now." she said. Specks nodded. "can we see them?" he asked. Oreo nodded. Specks walked slowly to his mate and pushed his way past her little siblings. "Midnight" he whispered. "Specks" Midnight wailed, throwing herself against him. "Its ok" he said. "I'm right here." he promised. He brought her into a tight hug and held her there while Rusty did the same to Twilight

Twilight got up as Oreo moved to speak to the herd, a single small tear running down her cheek as the herd spoke her fathers name in reverence. When the herd dispersed, she trotted to Rusty as he moved towards her, concern and sadness in his gaze as she buried her face in his neck, falling into his embrace. How she wished he could just keep her safe from all sadness! "Rusty" she said, her breath hitching in her throat. "I know Twilight" he said softly, nuzzling her.

Specks kept Midnight in a tight hug until Oreo came back and told Rusty and Specks they had to leave. "I love you" Specks said, nuzzling Midnight. "You will get through this" he promised. "I'll come to see you everyday" Midnight nodded. "Give the girls my love" she called after him, her throat tightening as she remembered her father would never tell her he loved her ever again, although she knew how much he loved his family. Midnight lay down again, her muzzle pressed into his side as she breathed in his scent, which was once something that made her happy, now his coat only smelled like death. Something that Freckles was covered in when he died as well. Without a word, Midnight just collapsed onto the ground and she lay there next to her father. "Midnight?" Starlight ran to her older sister and nudged her. "shes ok" Oreo said. "she's still in shock, thats all" Starlight nodded and pressed herself against Midnight

Twilight stayed with Rusty as long as possible, letting herself fall into his safe embrace. All too soon Oreo called for them to leave, and they gave each other one last nuzzle "Tell Starlight and Nutmeg I love them." she said softly, knowing she didn't need to tell him to take care of them. He'd been doing that for the past year already. He nodded, nuzzling her again and then walking off, sending glances behind him as he went. Twilight sighed and lay down beside her father's body, gently nuzzling his dark coat as she glanced over at Midnight. Her poor sister was taking it harder than she was.. but then again she always took everything harder. That was what made her so sweet. Getting up, she moved closer, laying down on Midnight's other side to press warmth into her, nuzzling her gently. "We're all here for each other" she said softly. "And Father's watching us from above with Freckles. Who knows, maybe if you pray to Epona, she'll let you visit them in your dream tonight!" she said hopefully.

Midnight let out a small sigh. "Its worked before" she said. The time went fast that day and it felt like the sun had just risen, but soon it was setting behind the bare trees. Midnight glanced over at her family. Stardust was looking her way. She flicked her tail slightly and Midnight tried to smile, but she was to numb. There was love in Stardust's eyes as she lay down beside Specks and Beauty. Midnight still couldn't believe her father was really gone. Slowly, sleep came over her. She was curled in between her mother and Twilight, feeling the warmth of their bodies. When Midnight opened her eyes again, she finally smiled. "Hi mama" It was Freckles. "Freckles!" Midnight said, trotting up to her son. "You've grown so much!!" She nickered, pulling him into a tight hug. "There's someone who wants to see you." Midnight stepped back and tears almost ran down her face. "Dad" She mumbled. He smiled and pulled her into a hug. "My sweet girl" he nickered. "I'm ok, I'm taking care of Freckles and I'll always be watching over you, and your siblings and your mother, don't worry." he promised. Midnight nodded. "I love you, dad" She whispered. He hugged her once more. "I love you too" he said. And soon, they were gone. Tears rolling down Midnight's face while she slept. She knew the next morning they would have to say goodbye to their father forever.
