Twilight nodded, nuzzling her mane. The time flew by, she only getting up now and then to find a patch of grass to sustain herself, and water, then settling back beside her sister. As night fell, she could see Rusty leading their two girls to a sheltering tree, close to Specks and the nieces, and within eyesight of her. His loving gaze swept her family, landing on her and she held it for a few moments, letting out a soft snort. He did so as well in return, then lay down. Her daughters lay down as well, looking over worriedly, and she tried to smile for them. Songbird's eyes softened in understanding and she bobbed her head in wordless understanding, moving so Nutmeg was inbetween herself and her father. Twilight snorted softly again as she watched them settle down, then turned to her own sister, curling close beside her, nuzzling her as they slowly fell asleep. For the first half of the night, she was restless, legs twitching as the terrifying nightmares returned, until suddenly she awoke, an overwhelming calm sweeping over her, as if her father had given her a big warm safe hug. Tears burst from her eyes, sliding down her cheeks at the warm, phantom touch, and she looked over at Midnight to see tears rolling down her cheeks as well. She blinked in surprise, then looked up to the stars, knowing that their father must have visited them both, although in different ways. "I love you dad, and I know you'll be watching after my nephew, and waiting for us all. And we will join you one day, together forever in the warm fields of Epona" She said softly, comfort reaching into her numb heart and thawing it.

The next morning Midnight woke up. This would be the hardest day for everyone in Midnight's family. Oreo came over and said good morning to them then talked quietly with Sunlight for a moment. Midnight knew what was coming. "Its time" her mother said. Midnight woke her two younger siblings and she stood up. Specks and Rusty were making there way over. "I've asked them to bury your father" Her mother said to all her foals. Midnight nodded. Beauty was trying to run towards her mother. "Beauty, no!" Stardust scolded her. "But I wanna see mama too!" She pleaded. "Dad and Uncle Rusty aren't going to see mom." Beauty looked at her confused. Stardust looked at Songbird and sighed. "They're burying grandpa." she said. Beauty looked over and sighed. "oh.." she mumbled, sadness now clouding her eyes. Midnight pressed against Twilight as the hole was made and her father was layed inside it. Her heart twisted and she felt herself start to cry. "Good bye Dad" she whispered, pressing her face against Twilight's neck.

Twilight found herself waking up, without realizing she'd fallen asleep again, and got to her feet as Oreo came over. Silently, she stood, looking over as Rusty came trotting up ears flat and eyes sad at the task ahead of him. Moving over to Midnight she nuzzled her gently, then gave her a big hug, finding solace in her sister's sadness as well. "He has a good life now, happy and carefree with freckles" she said gently, snuffling slightly at the same time. In her heart, she knew he was watching over them, but sometimes it was so hard for her mind to comprehend such things and actually believe it.
Songbird nuzzled her cousin gently, looking over at her mother and aunt as they stood huddled together as their father's laid their grandpa inside the hole. Tears ran down her face and she looked over to Stardust. For her, she'd gone to her grandfather for so much advice and solace since Twilight had disappeared... the idea of not being able to ask him for his wisdom was unbearably sad.

When it was done, Midnight closed her eyes and just wished the world around her would disappear. "This is all a bad dream" she muttered. "Dad is alive, everyone is fine. It's just a bad dream" But when she opened her eyes again, her heart broke into a thousand pieces'. Midnight looked down and saw Starlight and Nightlight gazing longingly at the snow covered hole. Starlight gazed at her older sisters and then at her younger brother. "how will we be able to cope without dad?" she whispered. Midnight didn't know the answer to that but she knew she had to say something. "It will take time, but we will, don't worry" her heart was breaking more with every word she said.
Stardust stood, staring. Her sister and little cousin were to young to understand what was going on, so they were frolicking around playing in the snow. "Grandpa's really gone" she muttered to Songbird. "He gallops with Freckles now" she managed to say without crying. Then the tears came. She pressed herself into her older cousin and just cried. "I can't believe he's actually gone"

Twilight refused to look down at the mound of dirt and snow, instead averting her gaze to the skies, imagining her father's warm gaze staring down at them, understanding and comforting. It worked for a few moments as peace found it's way to her heart, until she heard her youngest sister's voice. Turning back to them she gave a comforting huff. "We will always miss him, but he's still here. Although we may not see him, he will still influence every decision we make" she said softly.
Songbird swallowed hard, her stomach feeling like a big hard lump of ice as she nodded in dumb acknowledgement. Although the idea was a little bit comforting... at the same time it wasn't at all. He was gone. Forever. Tears began pouring down her cheeks as she turned her neck to hug her cousin, letting herself cry into her mane as Stardust was. "Me either, he was so wise" she agreed with a sob.

Starlight nodded slightly. “I just miss him” she said. Midnight nodded in understand. “I miss him too” all she wanted to do at that moment, was run up to specks and just let him hug her until she felt better. But she knew she had to be with her family now and besides, specks and rusty were making there way back to the girls. So, instead, she just pressed herself into her mother and her mother hugged her for a while. “I know it’s hard” she murmured. “But I promise we’ll get through this” midnight tried to believe her, but her heart didn’t want to “I don’t want to believe he’s gone” she almost whined. “Twily….I miss him so much” she mumbled, leaning into her sister and hugging her.

Twilight nodded as well, moving over to nuzzle Starlight. "We all do, and we all will" she said, looking up as her mother nuzzled them both. She sighed as Midnight pressed into her. "I know Midnight, me too. And I don't want to believe he's gone either" she said understandingly, hugging her sister. "But together, we'll get through this and understand" she said softly. "Always Together"

“Always together” midnight repeated. It was something the two had come up with when Midnight ran away the first time, AMD ever since then, it’s been there phrase. When either of them said it, it always ment something close to their hearts. “Do you think dad is taking care of freckles for me?” She suddenly asked. She knew the answer to her question, but she wanted so badly to hear what her sister would say, and some of her didn’t really think he was, she just wanted to clarify, it would make her feel better about things..ish. She laied down on the snow and let herself get cozy. She Imagined her fathers warm coat laying next to her and it made her happy

Twilight smiled slightly, nuzzling her sister. "Of course, he'll always take care of Freckles, and when we go up there, he'll take care of us too" she said gently, laying down beside her sister. After a pause, she spoke in a soft voice, so only Midnight would hear her. "Last night I woke up late... i felt so cold and empty without Father, but then suddenly it was as if he was giving me the biggest hug, i could feel his mane brushing against my neck, and i felt warm and happy. And I just know he's up there with Freckles, giving him a big hug right now too." she finished.

“I saw him last night” she whispered. “Dad and freckles.” She murmured. “He promised he would always look after my sweet colt.” Midnight sighed and rested her head on her sisters back. She felt starlight rest her head on Midnights back and midnight turned her head to nuzzle her little sister, putting her head back on twilight afterwards. “Everything going on has made me so tired.” She muttered with a slight yawn before she closed her eyes and slowly fell asleep

Twilight smiled eyes shining "You see? He's up there with Freckles, getting to know each other." she said, nuzzling her sister, and then starlight as well as the three of them fell asleep in a sort of square.

Midnight woke up first. She stood up quietly and managed to some who rest starlights head on Twilights back. She walked over to her mom and she settled beside her. She hugged her mom and just sat there. “I wish dad was still here” she mumbled. Sunlight looked down at Midnight and developed her in a huge hug. “Me too my sweet girl” she nickered. Midnight felt more tears roll down her face. Her mom flicked her tail across her eyes to stop the tears from falling. “Your dad wouldn’t want you crying” she said. Midnight nodded. “I know you’re right” she said, pressing into her mom

Twilight dozed lightly, opening her eyes a bit as she felt Midnight shift, and a smaller, lighter head placed on her shoulder. Midnight moved over to their mother, looking for solace, and so she closed her eyes again, curling slightly around her youngest sister.

Midnight had fallen asleep beside her mother and when she woke up, it was dusk. With a light groan of tiredness, she got to her feet and stumbled to a pile of grass and munched for a while. When she finished, she found a water hole and bent her head to drink some water. She walked slowly back to where her family was, her head down, and her tail dropped. With a sigh, she flopped beside Twilight again and she let out another sigh. "I miss him" she whispered. "But at least Freckles has someone else taking care of him now" she said, remembering her mothers older sister.

Twilight woke up after a few hours, gently sliding out from under starlight's head to find some grass and water before returning. Laying down, she stayed alert, watching the herd come and go as evening slowly arrived. Her eyes softened with sadness and understanding as Midnight walked up dejectedly, flopping down beside her wit ha sigh. Twilight let out a deep sigh as well. "I know, me too" she said gently. "Yes, now they can all take care of each other" she agreed.
