With each passing day, the grief got easier. Midnight still slept with her mother, but Twilight had gone back to her own family two days before. She knew she had to go back at some point too, but she just couldn't, not yet. It was begging to get dark and Midnight was getting ready to settle down beside her mother for the second week. There was a big reason to Midnight still being with her mother. She couldn't bare to leave her side knowing she would wake up and her father would always be gone. She also just wasn't ready yet. Slowly but surely, Midnight fell asleep.
Beauty bounced around her aunt who had returned to her uncle two days earlier. "When will mommy come back?" she asked her for the 10th time that day.

Twilight, although just as pained and saddened as her sister, had found the strength to return to her family, not to mention she needed Rusty's support deeply. Songbird had been a wonderful older sister, and cousin, keeping the younger fillies occupied when she was feeling low. Grazing beside Rusty, she lifted her head as Beauty, forever a ball of energy, bounced over with a now increasingly familiar query. Twilight sighed and nuzzled her niece gently. "You know the answer, when she's ready" she said gently.

"But she's been gone for two whole weeks!!!" Beauty complained. "I just want her back already" Specks flicked his youngest daughter with his tail. "she isn't ready honey" he said. Beauty sighed and flopped down on the snow. "Midnight darling" Sunlight said, nuzzling her daughter. "I think you should go back to your family tommrow" Midnight glanced at her mother and her heart twisted. "but im not ready mom" she mumbled, tears running down her face for the third time that day. Her mother nodded. Midnight woke up late in the night, she stood up, shook her pelt and decided to take a small walk. She walked for a while and soon she got lost. Unable to find her way back, she lay down in the snow and tried to sleep.
When Starlight woke up the next morning, she was surprised to not find Midnight next to her. She thought she probobly went back to her family now, but when she looked over she couldn't see her sister. Deciding it would be best to not bother her mother, she galloped over to her sister. "TWILY!" She called, breathless by the time she reached her. "Twily" she said again, bumping twilight in the side

Twilight sighed "I know Beauty, and she will come back, all in good time." she said gently, glancing over at her sister and mother. That night she once again slept with her family, snuggled against rusty with her daughters on either side of them. She awoke early in the morning and began grazing peacefully. Suddenly her sister came rushing over, breathlessly calling her, and then bumping into her. "Woah there, what's going on?" Twilight asked Starlight, stepping back a pace.

“Midnights gone” she said. “I woke up this morning, and she was just gone” specks lifted his head. “What do you mean she’s gone?” He asked his sister in-law. “I thought she might’ve come back here in the night, but when I looked over, I didn’t see her. I don’t think she ran away, that’s not like her.” Specks glanced at twilight. The two of them knew that midnight ran away multiple times before starlight was born. He leaned into twilight and whispered in her ear. “I don’t think she ran away, she’s happy here” he said. “She must be lost!!” Starlight was panicking at this point. “What are we gonna do???”

Twilight's eyes widened and she frowned, looking around. Could Midnight have run away again?? Surely not now, she never did when she felt truly saddened by loss. "I agree with you" she replied in a low tone to specks. Turning to her panicking niece, she nickered soothingly "It'll be ok, she can't have gone far. You stay here and mind your sister and cousins." Turning to specks, she continued "You take the north, i'll take the south." She paused for a moment, then glanced back to Starlight "Do you think you could get buttermilk and your young rogue to take the west and east?" she asked. She didn't want those two looking for her sister necessarily... but it was needed, and she didn't have time for personal feelings. And there was no way she was telling her mother about this, it would only worry her doubly, and maybe even throw her into a panic as well.

Starlight looked at twilight confused. “Have you lost your mind?” She asked. “I’m your sister, not your niece” she let out a small giggle and then ran into her sister. “I don’t think it’s a good idea to get those two involved.” She said. “I can help and I’ll get nightlight as well” she ran off to her little brother and rammed him in the side. He woke up and glanced at her. She lead him away and explained what happened. He nodded and started galloping towards the east. “Nightlight has east, I’ll take west” she said. “Meet back here at sun high?” She asked.

(you know my own brain slipped, you should'a just improvised, but whatev, sure it can just be the siblings i guess.)
Twilight snorted. IT was a common mistake a lot of the herd made, her niece and sister looked quite similar these days, and with similar names it could get quite confusing, especially in times of panic. "Well ok, but we need to hurry" she said, frowning. It would be better for two well prepared young stallions who had something to prove to help them, but all that really mattered was finding Midnight. "Yes" she said shortly, rearing and dashing forward, hooves thundering over the terrain as she raced towards the south, eyes scanning for her sister.

(ik thats why I typed it. It made it funny)
Starlight and Nightlight took off in the opposite directions of their sister and brother in-law. "Come on Midnight" Starlight mumbled. "where are you" she kept her head bent to the ground and she kept trying to find her sisters scent. Nothing. Starlight sighed. "I hope the others are having better luck than I am" she said sighing as she kept searching.
Midnight decided to stay where she was, hoping someone would find her and help her get home. She was getting cold and she missed her father so much. She just wanted to curl up next to her mothers warm coat and dream about him.

(That's true, i suppose it did xD. I don't mind who finds her)
Twilight, not for the first time in her life, began tuning herself to search for Midnight's scent, scanning the terrain before her and pausing now and then to scent the crisp air. At every pause, she called for her sister "Midnight? Midnight!" but only the wind answered her. Where could she be?

Starlight kept searching. The wind howled over head and she was getting cold. If she gave up, Twilight knew she would've failed. Nightlight kept his nose to the ground. He had found his sisters hoof prints and was following them. He was about to look up when something stopped him. Relieved to see Midnight in front of him, he nuzzled her happily.
Midnight was glad it didn't snow last night. Her hoof prints were still clear as day, marked in the snow. "Wait a second" Midnight mumbled. "If I follow my hoof prints, I should be able to get home!" Suddenly excited, she reared and dashed forward, following her hoof prints with every step she took. She herd a neigh in the distance and stopped. That sounded like Twilight. No. Midnight thought. She's probobly still asleep. Just then, she bumped into something. She looked up and saw Nightlight. "MIDNIGHT!!" He squealed. Trotting around her with joy. "You're ok!!!" Midnight smiled and nuzzled her little brother. "yea, I just got a little lost" she said. "Come on, follow me!" Nightlight took off in the direction he had come and Midnight followed after him

Twilight pressed onwards as the wind blew, it's icy gusts tossing her mane and tail, and making her shiver slightly, a combination of cold and worry. Pushing herself forward, she broke into a canter, eyes searching the plains, nostrils flaring. But there wasn't a sign of her sister. Still, she knew she couldn't give up. Not until the last minute, the last second.

By the time Sunhigh arrived, Starlight was making her way back to the herd, her head down and her tail low. She waited for Specks and Twilight to show up, but there was no sign of Nightlight. She shivered slightly. "any luck?" she asked her sister, but by the look of her, she already knew the answer. She looked at specks, but he shook his head sadly. Just then, Nightlight came from behind a tree, and behind him was Midnight. His head held high as he lead her to them. Starlight smiled big and she broke into a run.
Midnight heard hoof beats and she looked up from her grass. She followed Nightlight around the tree and she smiled. Twilight, Specks, and Starlight were all staring back at them.

Twilight finally forced herself to loop back, meeting the others hopefully, only to be disappointed and worried, shaking her head at her sister's question. Suddenly, Nightlight appeared, with Midnight! Twilight grinned with relief and trotted to her. "Midnight, what happened?" she queried.

"I took a walk last night to clear my head" Midnight said. "and...I sorta got a little lost" She glanced down at the ground in embarrassment. "Its ok" Specks said, pulling her in for a hug. "what matters is that your safe, and your coming back to us today." Midnight nuzzled him then stepped back. "I never said that" she said, glancing towards her mother. "what?" specks looked at her. "I thought you'd be ready by now." he started pinning his ears. "But i'm not." she said. Anger started flaring in his eyes. "You've been with your mother for two weeks, when are you going to come back?" he snapped. Midnight glanced at him, then took a step back. "Never if you talk to me like that!" Midnight snapped back. "UGH! What is wrong with you? You should be back by now! Twilight came back three days ago, suck it up, and come back to your family!" He snapped again. Midnight flattened her ears and backed up again. Shaking her head she turned and galloped to her mother. Starlight and Nightlight looked at him with wide eyes. "Even I know that was wrong" Nightlight said, following after his sisters. Specks looked at Twilight who looked mortified.
