Midnight let out a sigh. "ok" she said. She stood up and woke up Nightstar, she let out a squeak of protest but allowed her mother to help her move when Midnight said she could nurse. Midnight moved a few feet away and let Nightstar nurse. Stardust moved over to where her mother was now, she looked over at her aunt and her eyes glazed with worry for her little sister. Beauty looked up at her uncle. "no Uncle Rusty." she said. "All I ate was grass." she promised

Rusty gave an enormous sigh of relief "Ok then sweetie, all you have is a bad fever. I can get you more herbs to make the stomach pain hurt" he said. If she'd eaten what he thought she had, she would've remembered it. Twilight gave a quick prayer of thanks to Epona and nuzzled her niece.

"I...I did eat dandelion." Beauty muttered. "But Nutmeg promised it wasn't poisonous, and the others were daring me to do it too. Like Echo, and his friends. Ember and Harvest didn't think I should...but I didn't want to look like a scaredy wolf." she muttered to her uncle. "are dandelions poisonous?" she asked.

Rusty chuckled lightly "No, dandelions are perfectly fine. Even if you had eaten the other kind, the false dandelion, you'd be fine because you have to eat half a field of those to even get mildly sick" he said, nuzzling her.

"so...then why does my belly hurt?" she asked. "is there a chance that there was a pink flower or a black berry next to the dandelion I ate?" Beauty asked nervously. "I'm scared." she mumbled, as her belly got worse. "owwwwww" she wailed in pain. "MY BELLY HURTS!!" Specks nuzzled his daughter. "whats going on?" he asked. "Uncle Rusty says I have a fever, and my belly hurts." Beauty said

Rusty sighed "Like i said, sometimes it's part of the fever, it's trying to get whatever little sickness you have out of you" he said gently, then added "And no, no chance of that, it doesn't grow in the same area" He knew that for a fact. Rusty looked over as Specks showed up "She just has a pretty intense fever, with a big sore stomach. No worries though, it's not anything toxic, she only ate a dandelion." he said.

"well...then why is Midnight all the way over there?" he asked. "If its not toxic, can't she come back over here to be near Beauty?" Specks asked again, looking at Twilight and then Rusty and back again. Beauty groaned slightly. "ok...maybe I lied" she muttered. "I ate one single black berry... but so did Nutmeg! They dared us too!" Beauty said

Rusty frowned and glanced over at Midnight. "Well I suppose..." he said, then broke off as Beauty spoke again, his eyes widening, his face blanching slightly. "Beauty, you need to lie down on your side now. Don't move until I get back. Specks, please go get Nutmeg and bring her over here and tell her to do the same. Twilight, stay with them both, i'll be back with Starlight" he said, then reared and spun, charging forward, legs churning as he desperately raced to Starlight's copse of trees where she hung herbs. Gasping for breath, he slid to a stop. "STARLIGHT!" he called, "I need all the remedies you have for deadly nightshade, if you don't have everything we need to go searching for the plants now. We need two batches, Beauty and Nutmeg ate the berries" he said, eyes wild with fear. His daughter and his niece could be dying inside, and he could be too late.
Twilight's heart began racing in fear at Rusty's reaction as he spoke and then spun around dashed away. She doubted in that moment even she herself would have been able to catch up to him. "It's ok Beauty, it'll be ok" she said, moving so she could follow Rusty's instructions and lay down. Looking up at Specks, her eyes wide, she whispered "Please hurry"
Nutmeg suddenly grimaced as she sat up, letting out a slight groan. Aspen opened a lazy eye "What're you doing?" she asked in confusion. "I don't know, I don't feel so good suddenly" she said, her eyelids suddenly drooping sleepily. "Woah there, why are you so sleepy?" her friend asked, sitting up with a frown. "I don't know, i'm just tired" Nutmeg said curling in a circle and laying her head on the ground, suddenly unable to keep her eyes open at all, drowsiness overcoming her. Aspen frowned again,but lay her head down, glancing at her now and then. Why was she so tired suddenly?

Specks nodded and raced over to find Nutmeg groaning. "Hey" He said. "Nutmeg, I need you to come with me." he said. "Don't ask any questions, just do it." he nudged her to her feet. "The rest of you, stay here." he said. Pushing Nutmeg along until she was with her cousin and mother again. "lay down like Beauty." he instructed.
Starlight looked up. "they ate deadly nightshade?" she muttered. "oh no..." she grabbed all the herbs she would need. "Do you need any help?" Oreo asked. Starlight shook her head. "you keep that sweet little colt of yours away from the sickness." she advised. "I've taught you well, Starlight." she said. Starlight blushed, and galloped with Rusty over to her two nieces.
Midnight picked up her head. "nightshade?" she echoed. "Stardust stay with your sister." she said. "but mom you have to-." she broke off as her mother stood up and walked over to her daughter, nuzzling her. "Midnight, please go back to Nightstar." Specks said, "if you get sick...with you being this weak..you could die, then who would feed Nightstar?" Specks asked. "she needs her mother, please go back and lay with her." Midnight didn't want to leave her daughter, but she could see the look on her sisters face. "you promise me you'll take care of her." she said to Twilight before she went over to Nightstar again and lay down, nuzzling her filly

Nutmeg forced her eyes open, stumbling to her feet with Speck's help and leaning against him until she reached her cousin, flopping down silently beside her and falling asleep in moments. Echo had leapt to his hooves as Specks came up, taking a few steps towards Nutmeg until Specks told him to stay. His eye were wide and worried, and he began pacing back and forth in the grass. What was wrong with Nutmeg? Why had she suddenly gotten so tired? Was she sick? Seriously sick? Could it have been... a feeling of deep guilt washed over him, and he trembled slightly. The berries. No... surely those had just been normal berries! Surely.
Rusty nodded, helping her grab some herbs, not even noticing the exchange between Oreo and Starlight, breaking into a racing gallop all the way back to his family. Skidding to a halt he dropped the herbs, breathing hard with a mixture of exertion and worry as he saw Nutmeg apparently unconscious beside Beauty.
Twilight looked up as Midnight approached, opening her mouth to urge her back, but then Specks spoke as he came up with Nutmeg, who flopped to the ground in apparent exhaustion. Worry flashed through her eyes and she nuzzled her filly gently, then looked up at Midnight. "You know I will" she managed to reply, although worry was pounding through her heart.

"You really just expect me to sit here and watch my filly suffer through a sickness?" Midnight demanded. Starlight looked at her sister. "yes" she said. "its whats best for you, and its whats best for Nightstar." she said. "I DON'T CARE!" Midnight spat. "Beauty needs me" she argued. "If you go anywhere near her" Starlight said. "you could easily get sick too." Midnight flattened her ears. "I DON'T CARE!" She spat again. "Honey, Nightstar can't get sick, if she does she'll die. You don't want to loose another foal." he said. "I need to be with Beauty." Midnight said, standing up and walking over to Beauty to lay beside her. There was nothing anyone could do to make her move away from her sick filly, not even her sister.

Twilight's ears flattened "Midnight, I know how you feel, remember, it's not just Beauty lying beside me" she said, fear and pain flashing through her eyes "But think about this" she continued, as her sister lay down. "If you get sick, your milk gets infected. Nighstar won't be able to drink. She'll get weaker, and weaker, and sicker and sicker, until it'll be too late" she said, realizing what she was saying was harsh, but necessary.
Rusty glanced at Starlight "We really need to start putting together the herbs now." he reminded her, looking worriedly at the fillies

Starlight nodded and helped mix the herbs together.
"Yea, well one of those filly's isn't yours" Midnight spat, glaring at Twilight. "There is absolutely NOTHING you can say or do that will make me move away from my daughter. Also, you aren't the one who lost a colt when you had twins. This is Freckles' twin. Remember that. If she dies, my world ends." Specks let out a sigh. Clearly nothing was going to work. "well maybe your mother will get you to leave her side." he said, rearing up to gallop to Sunlight. When he found her, he explained what was going on and finished with "if Midnight gets sick, Nightstar could die. Please Sunlight, you need to convince your daughter to move away from Beauty before she gets sick too."

Twilight's ears pinned and she turned away from her sister. How could she put guilt on her at a time like this? Getting up she moved over to Nutmeg's side and curled around her, nuzzling her gently. "It's ok my filly, you'll be ok" she said softly.
Sunlight looked up, eyes widening. "Oh dear, she has to move" she agreed. With a doubtful frown she nodded "I can try, but we both know how stubborn she can be" she said, then began trotting over to them.

Midnight wanted to get up and slap her sister with her tail right then and there. She had promised to look after Beauty, no matter what. Some sister she was. She felt tears roll down her face, the fact that she knew her sister was right and Nightstar could die if Midnight didn't move. "Mom" Stardust whispered. "please" she whispered again, so only Midnight could hear. "if you don't do it for yourself, do it for Beauty, and me, and Nightstar." she said. "Please mom." she begged. Midnight looked up at her oldest daughter. "alright" Midnight said, standing up. Stardust smiled. "thank you" she said. Midnight walked over to Nightstar and lay down beside her youngest daughter, watching as Stardust marched up to her aunt. "how could you do that to my mom?" she demanded. "after you promised to look after Beauty, how could you do that?"
