Midnight looked over at Twilight. "is something bothering you?" she asked, nudging Twilight comfortingly. "If its because Stardust and Harley are mates, it's been months since I met him, and you know I approve of him of being Stardust's mate, but that doesn't mean he can just be unpredictable now." Midnight said. "but seriously, whats up?" she asked

Twilight sighed, nuzzling Midnight and shaking her head slightly "It's nothing about Harley, he's fine" she said reassuringly, then sighed again. "I just.. it's been a while now, and if Harley had the guts to settle down and ask Stardust to be his mate, why can't Buttermilk?" she finally exploded.

"He will" Midnight reassured her sister. "I promise. I mean, you saw the way he looked the other day, I can tell that he's going to ask her soon, we just don't know when and until then, we need to support his choices" Midnight said. "hey...when did I become smarter than you?" she joked, nudging her sister again

Twilight looked surprised "Really? I didn't notice" she said a bit doubtfully, but feeling appeased. She chuckled slightly at Midight's joke "I'm usually blind to such things" she admitted, adding "Well I hope he asks soon... Songbird must be feeling a bit unsure of herself" she said with a light sigh.

Buttermilk in fact, was certainly thinking about it. Songbird and he were grazing side by side as usual, but his mind wasn't on the grass. Last night he'd tried tentatively asking his father for advice, but his father had almost kicked him out at the idea of him asking Twilight's daughter to be his mate. Apparently he still held a deep brewing anger concerning Songbird's mother. He'd tried asking his mother after that, and she'd been a bit more helpful, but hadn't answered his question. He knew he wanted Songbird to be his mate... he couldn't think of it being any other mare. But his dilema was, was he supposed to ask the father first, the mother first, or the mare first??? The question had been turning over in his head for days now.

“I noticed” midnight joked again, “but seriously sis, just give him time. Harley came to me and Specks before he asked Stardust. He said to us that he loved her very much and that he promised to take care of her. And she could always come back to us when she needed to or wanted to” midnight said. “Just give the poor stallion time” midnight said again. “He’ll come around” she nickered, hugging her sister

Twilight snorted in wry amusement, then nodded "Well I just hope he does soon." she said seriously, then snorted again thoughtfully "And to think there was a point in time I couldn't handle the thought of him" she mused.

Buttermilk was still thinking on the embarrasingly confusing problem, when Nutmeg and her trio of friends came cantering up. Songbird looked up at smiled at them. "Morning Songbird, Buttermilk" Nutmeg said, moving forward to hug her sister and happily headbutt Buttermilk. "What's up?" Songbird said with a chuckle as buttermilk regained his breath after the other three reciprocated the action. Nutmeg looked up, grinning. "Well, I was wondering if you knew where Beauty and Ember and Harvest went?" she asked. Songbird shook her head "I don't think so, I thought they were playing tag with you guys" Nutmeg snorted "They were!! but they raced off and we lost them in the herd" she said. Songbird gave a laugh. "They're probably hiding from you." she suggested. Nutmeg nodded "probably, but it's so hard to see over the other horses!! I mean we're almost as tall as you guys, but not quite" she said in annoyance. Aspen suddenly trotted over and whispered in her ear, and her eyes brightened. "Good idea! Songbird, can you come help us?" Songbird blinked, glancing at Buttermilk, who grinned. "I don't mind, you can go have fun with your sister if you want for a bit!" he said encouragingly, an idea popping into his head. Songbird smiled, nuzzling him then nodding, turning to the yearlings. "Alright, let's go find our cousin!" she said, trotting off with the little ones. Buttermilk smiled after them, then took a moment to breath and think. Finally, with a determined expression, he began trotting in the direction he'd last seen Twilight.

“Twi” midnight said, “calm down” she stood up and shook herself off. “It’s not like you’re waiting for Rusty to ask you to be his mate” midnight said. “Please, just clam down” she hugged her sister. “Just…ya know, take a breath” midnight said. Why was she saying all this stuff to her sister? Who was older than her. “I’m sorry” she said. “That…was kinda…rude of me” midnight muttered. “I didn’t mean it” she promised.

Beauty poked her head around the tree. “They’ve gotten Songbird to help them find us” beauty whispered to Ember and Harvest. Harvest nickered in amusement. “Ok, then that just means we need to run to another tree and hide” harvest said. Ember nodded in agreement. “Let’s go then” she said. Beauty neighed in agreement and they started galloping to another tree that was near Starlight. “If songbird and nutmeg come this way, we were never here” she said. Starlight nodded in agreement, looking over at Oreo who shrugged as her colt was sleeping.

Twilight looked slightly surprised, as she really wasn't that upset about it, but she did feel a bit too ansy, that was true. With a chuckle she hugged her sister back. "It's perfectly ok Mid, you know that, and very much not rude. You're right, if songbird isn't extremely worried, than why should I be? Young ones these days need time" she said, taking a breath as her sister suggested.

Buttermilk trotted for a bit, adjusting his course as she finally saw the two sisters standing together. Taking a deep breath he paused for a moment. Was it the right time to do it, right after Midnight had had her baby? Should he wait? But he really really didn't want to. Now that he'd finally gotten up the courage..

Songbird cantered towards the herd with Nutmeg and her friends, glancing here and there for the familiar coats of their friends. "I don't see them yet" she said scanning the area. Nutmeg sighed "Well maybe they went nearer to the edge of the herd by now?" she suggested. Songbird nodded, that sounded plausible. Skirting the herd, they made their way towards some trees lining the edges. A few feet away, Starlight and Oreo stood together, the old healer's colt sleeping beside them as Starlight sorted fresh herbs for her stores. "Starlight! Nutmeg and her friends are looking for Beauty, per chance have you seen them anywhere about?" she questioned, her voice soft enough to not wake up the foal.

Starlight glanced up as she herd her name “uhhhh” she stuttered. She looked over and saw beauty waving her tail as if to say no. “Nope” she said. Starlight couldn’t lie, as the herd healer apprentice, it seemed wrong. “Ok, fine” Starlight said. “They went that way” she pointed to where she had last seen Beautys tail. “Starlight gave us away, run to your grandma” ember said. Beauty laughed and nodded, running towards her grandmother. “Grandma” Beauty said, slowing when she got to her grandmother.

Beauty looked up when she saw Buttermilk making his way towards them. Of course he had to ask the day after Midnight had given birth to Nightstar. She sighed, not showing her sister how she was feeling, but honestly, she was very annoyed at that stallion.

Songbird grinned as Nutmeg and her friends raced over to the tree. But they were just a few moments late as the tails of the other three disappeared into the herd, heading off again. "Aww they got away again!" Nutmeg said in disappointment. "Ah, we'll catch them" Songbird reassured her, trotting off in their direction.

Sunlight glanced up as one of her granddaughters, with two of her friends, raced up to her a bit breathlessly. "My my, what's going on?" she asked with a chuckle, giving her granddaughter a hug.

Buttermilk took another deep breath, then walked towards the two sisters "Twilight, Midnight" he said, dipping his head deeply to them both, nervously respectful.
Rusty had woken up and been observing Buttermilks hesitant approach, calmly sauntering over "Good Morning Buttermilk" he said, smiling at him.

“We’re kinda being chased” she said laughing. “And we keep trying to hide but Starlight just gave us away, so you have to hide us” Beauty joked, hiding behind A tree that was near her grandmother. “Grandma, don’t tell them” beauty said. “Please, miss Sunlight” Ember said.

Midnight said nothing to Buttermilk, she whinned for Specks and he came over instantly. She whispered in his ear. “Help Nightstar up” she said. Specks nodded and nuzzled his youngest filly up to her feet. He helped her walk a few feet away and let her lay down again. Midnight lay down as well. “Do you want to tell me what’s going on?” He asked. Midnight sighed. “Buttermilk chose today to ask Twilight if he can ask Songbird to be his mate. Today! The day after I gave birth to our filly” midnight spat. “Can you believe that stallion” she made sure not to say it to loud, but she definitely made it loud enough for specks to hear.

Sunlight chuckled again, then pretended to get serious, glancing around. "Beauty, Ember, Harvest? Hmm nope, I guess that was just my imagination, i'm definitely alone" she said, bending her head to graze with a twinkle in her eye.

Buttermilk blushed slightly as Midnight moved with her family further away, feeling slightly guilty for his timing, but he really couldn't wait anymore, he was determined to see it through. Twilight glanced over as her sister moved, seeing a bit of annoyance in her gaze as she did so, but she turned back to Buttermilk. One thing at a time. She could see he was having trouble getting the words out, so she smiled to him reassuringly. He gulped, then finally spoke, looking from her to Rusty, and back again. "I would like to ask for both your blessings to ask Songbird to be my mate" he said, his voice firm and clear. Twilight smiled again, Rusty speaking up beside her "You have them, and all our good wishes. You're a good stallion, and right for our daughter" he said, and Twilight nodded "I agree, Nutmeg already sees you as her brother, and I'm sure our new little one will love you as well. You're already part of the family." she said. Buttermilk grinned with relief, why had he thought it would be so hard? They were so welcoming! "Now you'd better go find Songbird and tell her, or the entire herd will know before she does" Twilight advised. Buttermilk grinned again, then blinked "Oh, you're right!" he said, spinning and cantering away. Twilight chuckled. "Goodness, the poor fellow. But he's a good honest stallion" she said, and Rusty nodded, then glanced over at Midnight and her family, and sighed. "I think you have another horse to talk to now" he said gently. Twilight glanced over and pinned her ears at Midnight's expression. Sometimes her sister confused her so much. At one point, she was saying how they should support Buttermilk, and how she was sure he'd ask soon, and then when he did ask, she went off in a huff!!

(whoops, i shouldn't have given Midnight the idea to get annoyed... miss dramatic xD)

Beauty giggled when her grandma pretended like she didn’t see her or her friends. That was perfect. Nutmeg would never find them now. She was sure of it.

Midnight herd everything buttermilk said. Night star booped her in the side and she gazed up at her longingly. “Looks like someone’s finally ready for breakfast” midnight said as she stood up and Specks helped Nightstar to her feet. She stumbled over to her mother and bent her head starting to nurse. While she did so, midnight brought up the conversation again. “But seriously! He had to choose today! Like I would’ve been fine with tomorrow or even the day after! But the day after our filly was born! That’s like going up to him the day after he becomes mates with songbird and telling him his parents were kicked out of the herd. I mean slightly different, and they obviously weren’t but you get my point” Midnight said. Specks nodded in understanding. “Yes” he said. “I do” he hugged midnight and helped Nightstar lay down once again and Midnight lay down as well, munching on some grass while she lay there.

Songbird spotted her grandmother from across the herd, and nudged Nutmeg. "Hey, maybe Grandma saw them!" she suggested, and they all cantered over. "Grandma, we're looking for Beauty, have you seen her?" Nutmeg questioned, tilting her head hopefully.

Twilight nuzzled Rusty, then trotted over to her sister, quietly laying down beside her with a look at Specks. "Hey, is something bothering you about Buttermilk?" she asked gently.

Sunlight looked up when two other of her granddaughters came trotting up. "Beauty?" she questioned. "hmmm, nope haven't seen her" she said to her granddaughter. "sorry" Sunlight said. "try looking that way" she pointed in the opposite direction of where Beauty was. Beauty poked her head out from behind the tree and giggled. It looked like Nutmeg had taken the bait. "perfect" Beauty said, "looks like grandma convinced Nutmeg" she said giggling.

Midnight looked up when she herd her sisters voice. "its just that im a little annoyed that he chose today to ask if he could ask Songbird to be his mate" Midnight said. "like I understand that he wants to, but I would've been totally fine with him asking tommrow or even the day after, but Nightstar was just born, I just found it a little annoying thats all" Midnight said
