Beauty flattened her ears but nodded. “Come on Nutmeg, let’s find the best flowers and rocks for Nightstar” Beauty said. Midnight looked confused. “Beauty looked like she really needed to tell me something” midnight said. “Whats going on?” Midnight asked, watching as Nightstar slowly yawned and fell asleep. “Twilight” midnight said sternly. “Whats going on?” She asked.

Nutmeg had been watching the interaction a bit worriedly, and quickly hopped to her feet with a nod "Yeah! Let's go!" she said, quickly cantering off with her cousin. "Whoo, it's a good thing my mom thought of that! Why were you going to tell her? Do you know how sad that would have made her?" Nutmeg asked in slight confusion.
Twilight pinned her own ears. "Oh.. well... I..." she stopped, trying to think. The only other thing she could distract Midnight with, and save her from her own depression... was something she'd hid from her sister since Nighstar was born. She'd briefly told Nutmeg once since she'd woken her up in the middle of the night when she'd been mumbling... so it would work and make sense. "Well.. it's something that i told nutmeg about, and i guess she told Beauty, although i don't know why she would've wanted to tell you." she said with a sigh. "I... Ever since Nighstar was born... I've been worried. Not about her, she'll be fine and running around chattering in no time. But I was worried about my foal. Ever since that night, i've hardly felt any kicks. It's like Nighstar was born, and my foal just went still. I still feel a kick once in a while, but they're pretty weak. I've been eating normally... but i'm scared. And what if when it is time...what if... what if it's a colt?" she suddenly blurted out. "I don't know how i'd take care of a colt, I don't even understand colts, and how would I be able to take care of it when i'd just be thinking about... freckles... the entire time" she said, her voice going softer as she drooped her head.

Midnights eyes grew soft, but she knew her sister was still lying. “Don’t think about that” midnight said, smiling. “But I know you’re lying. There’s something else, I can tell.” Midnight knew that her sister was scared, but whatever she was hiding would change everything. “And if you do have a colt, mom will help you. Ya know, Nightlight, he’s our little brother. Obviously she’ll help you” midnight said. “But still, beauty wouldn’t tell me that. Please, stop lying, just tell me what’s wrong” she said. “And don’t say it’s nothing. You’re my sister, we tell each other everything, remember?” She asked.
Beauty sighed. “She needs to know Meg” beauty said as they were trotting back. She could hear her mother talking to Twilight about whatever was going on. “I’m sorry Meg, I have to tell her. She needs to know. The truth” Beauty trotted up to her mother and placed down the flowers. “Im sorry Aunt Twilight” beauty said. “She needs to know” midnight looked at her daughter and then back at her sister. “Whats going on?” She asked. “Stormy can talk” beauty blurted. Midnight felt her feet buckled under her and she began sweating. “Of course he can..” she mumbled.

Twilight frowned "Midnight, i'm not hiding anything." her eyes softened as well and she reached forward to nuzzle her sister. "Thank you, I know she will... I know" she said softly. Then she frowned again. "Midnight, I would never tell you it was nothing. But, I promise what we're not telling you isn't anything extremely serious, we're just trying to help you. Can you trust us both enough to not ask us about it right now? I promise you'll know soon enough" she said gently, hoping her sister would understand.
Nutmeg frowned and shook her head. "I don't think she should" she said... watching with worry as Beauty turned and trotted back.
Twilight's eyes widened and she quickly threw herself under her sister, easing her to the ground, then turned to her niece for once, eyes cold. "Nutmeg, take your cousin away. Go find her father and then stay with your Grandma." she said, then turned to her sister. "I didn't want to tell you... I knew how hard you would take it" she said softly, nuzzling her forelock.
Nutmeg nodded silently, agreeing with her mother's decision. "Beauty, let's go" she said in a quiet yet slightly stern tone, turning to trot over to Specks who was grazing a ways off.

Beauty flattened her ears but followed after her cousin and walked up to her father with her tail drooped. “Now, what’s wrong?” Specks asked. Beauty turned towards Nutmeg, willing her to explain.
“I can see why” midnight mumbled. “He was born yesterday and he’s already talking. And I know he can walk” midnight felt like she was going to cry. “Why can’t nightstar be talking?” She asked, pressing herself into her sister. “Was…was it something I did?” She asked

Nutmeg gave a sigh, then began explaining "...And then Beauty couldn't help herself and had to go and tell Aunt Midnight all about it, so now she's really really sad, and she almost fell down" she said, ears still pinned with worry.
Twilight sighed "Some foals just age differently, and it has absolutely nothing to do with anything you've ever done. Nighstar was just born early, you can't expect her to be exactly like the other foals. Technically, she wouldn't even be looking around until two months! So really, if you look at it this way, she's ahead of her time. And when she starts walking and talking, she'll still be ahead of herself too! I promise. Just because Stormy can talk, doesn't mean Nighstar won't." she said gently.

"oh no" Specks said, nuzzling Beauty. "I thought you would know not to tell her" he said. Beauty flattened her ears more. "I did...but she kept saying all these things and....and...she needed to know. I'm sorry dad" Beauty mumbled. Specks sighed. "well, when your mother is feeling better, we are going to need to talk about a punishment for you." Specks said with a sigh. "NO! Please!!" Beauty begged. Specks sighed again. "you knew you shouldn't tell her that, so I'll talk with your mother, and we'll see what she says" Specks finally said. Beauty nodded sadly. "now, I don't want you two going anywhere, alright?" Specks asked. Beauty nodded sadly again.
Midnight glanced at her sister. "but...do you see how weak Nightstar is?" she mumbled. "how skinny she is...?" Midnight felt tears roll down her face. "Stormy was just born and he can already talk, Nightstar can't even stand." Midnight said

Nutmeg listened quietly, stepping back so Specks could talk to his daughter, then nodding when he told them to stay around. "Ok" she said quietly, bending her head to graze.
Twilight nuzzled her "Hey, it's just because she was born early, of course she's going to be a bit weak and small for just a little while. But she'll grow, and get stronger, I promise!" she said reassuringly. "Yes, but he was born exactly on his due date." she said sensibly.

"You don't know that" Midnight mumbled. "I think it still could be my fault." Midnight admitted. "you promise I did nothing wrong?" she asked, her voice full of worry. Midnight sighed.

"I've herd that sometimes the main reason a foal can't talk if its born early, then thats because the mother did something." she said. "so...I must've done something.." Midnight mumbled.
Beauty sighed. "but dad..." she said again. "I had to tell her, I couldn't just keep it a secret" she said. Specks sighed. "why not?" he asked. "because she kept saying all these things like, I bet Nightstar is giggling before Stormy, I bet she'll even be talking before him." beauty said. "i had to tell her!" Beauty said

Twilight shook her head "No no, it wasn't your fault at all. You didn't do anything! If you doubt it, ask Rusty or Starlight!" she said.
Nutmeg spoke up from beside Beauty. "Well you could've waited until Nighstar could talk a bit. Now Midnight's gonna be depressed until then." she said quietly.

Midnight sighed. "i believe you, you know that." she said. "but I just wish Nightstar was talking." she said with a sigh. "or at least saying letters, like A or anything like that." she said. "something that could show progression. And giggling is a huge progression, but its not talking." Midnight said.
Beauty began crying. "I...I'm sorry." she mumbled. Specks pulled her in for a hug. "its alright" he soothed. "but Nutmeg's right. Your mom is going to be depressed until Nightstar says something." Specks said to his daugher

Twilight nuzzled her "I know, but we just have to keep working with her! She'll learn! You know the easiest word for them to say when they're first born is Mama, so maybe you can just work with her on the A sound then? Just keep doing it nice and slow, show her how to do it, you'll see progress, i promise!" she encouraged.
Nutmeg bummped her nose against Beauty apologetically. "Sorry Beauty, it wasn't against you personally! I'm sure my mom is talking your mom through it now." she said reassuringly.

Midnight nodded. "I don't want to wake her up yet, we can let her wake up on her own." Midnight said. "but what if trying to teach her that doesn't even work?" she asked, her mind was still buzzing with worry. "I don't know how to do that. Do I just...go...M...a....m....a. Mama?" Midnight asked. "Like I said, I don't know how to teach her things, Stardust and Beauty wern't this tiny." Midnight wanted to cry. "she's so small...what if...she..." Midnight couldn't finish her sentence, her heart breaking.
"I know, but she needed to know Meg" Beauty said
