Nightstar thought long and hard and she came up with. "N-N-N-N-N-I-G-H-T-S-S-S-T-A-R" Midnight laughed. "she's introducing herself to everyone" she said. "Try Da Da." Midnight encouraged. Nightstar thought again. "D-D-D-D-A-D-A." Midnight sighed. "one step forward, three steps back." she mumbled. "she'll get there, don't worry" Specks said, nudging his mate. "we just have to keep working on it." he said. "Hey, can one of you go find Rusty and Songbird?" she asked. "if they come over, we can teach her more letters." Midnight said

Twilight chuckled "Yes Honey, that's right, that's you!" she said, then nodded in agreement with Specks "Yeah, she'll get it!!" Nutmeg looked over at Specks and hopped to her feet. "I can go get them! Be back in a flash!" she said, and sped off, true to her word. A few seconds later she raced up to Rusty, skidding to a halt. "Hey Dad! Nightstar is starting to sound out letters, and Specks wants you to go over so you can help!" she said. Rusty looked up as his energetic daughter zoomed up to him, then nodded, eyes wide. "Well that's wonderful! I'll head right on over" he said, cantering off in the direction she'd come. At his confirmation, Nutmeg switched directions, heading towards her Grandma, and sped off. Sliding to a halt she grinned breathlessly at Sunlight and Songbird. "Hey! Nightstar is staring to talk and Specks wants you songbird, and probably you too Grandma if you want to come, so she can learn more letters!" Without waiting for their response she spun and kicked off, speeding back to the small group. In seconds she reached them and slid to another halt, dusty, but triumphant. "Told you! They're coming in a minute, they're a bit slow" she said, not able to help her slight smugness, although she was mildly justified in being smug. It had only taken her a minute and a half! Rusty cantered up just as she was speaking, and chuckled. "Now now Nutmeg" He scolded gently, then smiled at the small group. "So, i hear Nighstar is starting to talk a bit?" he said, laying down near his mate and nuzzling her in greeting.
Songbird looked over in surprise as her younger sister sped up in a cloud of dust to where she and their grandmother had been talking, mostly about Buttermilk, babbled out some words, then dashed off again. "Well" she said after a moment. "I suppose we should head on over then!" she said then laughed outright. Sunlight chuckled with her, then nodded. "I'd love to see my new Granddaughter begin to speak" she said warmly, starting to trot off in the direction her speedy granddaughter had vanished in. Songbird caught up with her quickly, and they traveled in silence until they saw the small group.

"Yes" Midnight said. "she has began to babble out letters, which is amazing, but we need her to say full words now." Midnight said. Specks nodded. "that would be nice, yes, but we don't want to push it." he said, looking at Midnight. "no of course not." Midnight said, although she was thinking about something else at that moment. When everyone had arrived, Nightstar found it right to introduce herself once more, for the 10th time that day. "N-N-N-N-I-G-H-T-S-S-S-S-T-A-R." Midnight laughed. "she's been apprently introducing herself to everyone who comes by here." Midnight said

Rusty chuckled, Songbird and Sunlight nickering with laughter as they came up and heard Nightstar. "Well, it's wonderful to meet you, I'm Uuu nnn ccc llll eee Rrr uuu sss ttt yyy" he said slowly hoping she would get it. Sunlight smiled at her daughters and granddaughters, moving to lay down near Midnight. Songbird lay down near her Father, waiting to hear if her new cousin would be able to say her dad's name, and eager to introduce herself to the filly.

Midnight hugged her mother and watched Nightstar closely. She was thinking hard, her ears were forward, and her eyes were squinted. "she's been doing that when she thinks" Midnight explained. "she'll grow out of it once she says real words." Midnight added. "I hope" Finally, Nightstar spoke in an unsure voice. "U-U-U-U-N-C-C-C-C-L-L-L-E R-R-R-U-U-S-S-T-T-Y" Nightstar spoke. Beauty eyes gleamed with joy. "she still hasn't said my name." Beauty said with a sad tone. Sunlight looked over at her granddaughter. "well, your name doesn't have two syllables like your aunt twilight, and uncle rusty have something before their name, but your name is beauty, so of course it'll take her a little bit longer to get it." Sunlight said. "but don't you worry sweet Beauty, she will get it. With time." she promised. Midnight nodded. "she's right" Midnight said. "with your name, we just need to take it slow."

Rusty beamed happily as his little niece stuttered out his name. "Thats right!" he said happily, then silenced as Beauty spoke. Twilight nodded in agreement with her sister and mother. "Yes, just a bit more time and she'll get it. Practice will help" she said. Songbird immediately spoke up. "Hey Nighstar, can you try my name? Ssssss ooo nnn ggg bbb iii rrr ddd" she said, tilting her ears forward hopefully.

Nightstar thought again. She knew some how, that if she said her older sisters name first then she would be very happy, but that was the problem. Nightstar didn't know how to say Beauty. Everything everyone was telling her, made sense, they were easy, Beauty was harder. Nightstar thought even harder and then she finally spoke. "S-S-S-S-O-O-O-N-N-N-N-G-G-G" She stuttered. Midnight smiled. She had said song, that was a start, but her thoughts were interrupted when Nightstar kept speaking. "B-B-B" She stopped at that. "we need to try another word with a B." Midnight said. "How about my name?" Beauty suggested. "Something a little easier sweetheart." Specks said. Beauty flattened her ears. "I'm sorry, I just really want her to say my name." She said

Songbird smiled "That was a great try!!" she said encouragingly. Twilight chuckled lightly, then thought for a moment. Lazily, a bee flew by, and brought a solution. "Maybe she can say bee first! It's easy!" she said. Nutmeg jumped in eagerly. "Nighstar! Remember when i told you about the BEE? There's one! Can you say it's name? Bbbbbb eeeeee" she said slowly.

Nightstar looked up at the bee that buzzed around her. She thought again. "B-B-B-B-E-E" She said. Beauty smiled. "Ok" she said. "Nightstar. Can you say BBBB EEEE AAAA UUUU TTTTT YYY?" She asked, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. Please say it. She begged. Nightstar thought for a moment again. "B-B-B-B-B-E-A-U-U-U-T-T-T-Y" She said, looking over at Beauty. Beauty smiled and nodded. "yes! thats it!" she said. "hmmm grandma is a hard one, why don't we try that?" she suggested

Nutmeg gave a happy nicker and Twilight beamed as well. Sunlight smiled and nodded "I would love it if she could try!" she turned to her littlest granddaughter "Hello Nighstar, I'm your Grandma! Ggggg rrrr aaa nnn dddd mmm aaa" she said, eyes shining.

Nightstar listened, that name sounded harder than the others. She thought for a moment. "M-M-M-M-A-M-M-M-A" She stuttered. Midnight smiled. "thats right Nightstar, I'm your mama, but that is your grandma, can you try saying grandma for us?" she asked her daughter. Nightstar looked at her mother and tilted her head, but decided to try. "G-G-G-G-R-R-A-A-N-N-D-M-M-M-A." She said. Midnight nodded. "yes!!" she said

Sunlight beamed happily "Yes, I'm your Grandma!" she said happily, reaching over to nuzzle the little filly. Twilight grinned at Midnight. "Wow, she's got all our names so far!" she said, impressed.

"All but one" Midnight said, glancing towards Nutmeg. "Maybe we should give Nutmeg some space." she suggested. "She's the one who made all of this possible. She taught Nightstar about the bee, flowers, butterflies and leaves." Midnight said. "It only seems right that she gets to be alone with Nightstar while she learns her name." Midnight said, glancing at Nutmeg again. "I can't thank you enough for helping me teach her all this" she said to everyone, and then her gaze rested on Nutmeg. "and just because she can stutter, doesn't mean she knows everything yet, I want you and Beauty to teach her how to say the things around her, what everything is." she said to Nutmeg. "after she's learned your name of course." Midnight said, standing to her feet

Twilight blinked and nodded, she had actually forgotten Nutmeg hadn't had her name said yet! Getting to her feet she smiled "Of course sis!" she said, Rusty and Songbird getting up beside her and echoing the words. Sunlight got up as well, walking over to Songbird and motioning for her to follow her so they could continue their conversation. Rusty walked off towards Specks. Nutmeg blushed slightly as Midnight spoke to her, then nodded. "Oh yeah, that'll be lots of fun!" she said happily, scooching closer to her little cousin as she watched the small family crowd slowly disperse.

Nightstar looked at Nutmeg, unsure of what was going to happen. Was she going to teach her a new game? Nightstar thought. Midnight stood with her sister a few feet away, keeping an eye on Nutmeg and Nightstar. "I haven't been this far from her yet" she said. "but I know it was the right thing, to give Nutmeg space while she taught Nightstar her name. After all, she is the one who taught her all about the leaves and butteflies." Midnight said.
