Nutmeg smiled as she turned back to Nighstar. "Alright, now you get to hear my name!" she said happily. "I'm Nnnn uuuu ttt mmmm eeee gggg" she said slowly, ears pricked forward hopefully.

Nightstar smiled. Finally the horse who had taught her how to play told her her name. She focused for a moment before going over the name in her head a few times. She looked up at the sky and then down at her cousin. "N-N-N-U-U-T-T-M-E-E-G-G" She said, seeing happiness sparkle in her cousins eyes.

Nutmeg grinned happily and gave her cousin a hug. "That's right! And you know what? I'm named after a NUT! They come around LATER when the LEAVES will turn BROWN! Some of them you can EAT!" she said.

Nightstar smiled. "L-L-L-E-A-F" She stuttered. Midnight pricked her ears. "Did you hear that?" she asked. "Nightstar just said leaf, and we wern't there." she said, her ears almost flattned. "maybe I'm just hearing things." she said

Nutmeg's eyes widened slightly and she nodded "Yeah! Leaf!" she said. Suddenly the bee that seemed to enjoy hanging around buzzed by again. "Nighstar, can you say BEEE?" she asked, drawing it out.
Twilight swiveled and ear and nodded slightly "She did" she said simply, then nuzzled Midnight. "But she'll say lots of other things when we're with her" she said softly.

“I hope you’re right” midnight said to her sister, hugging her. “I really hope your right” she said again, watching her filly and niece closely.
Nightstar remembered how she said Beautys name. She had to use the letter B. She thought for a moment. “B-B-B-B-E-E” she said, smiling. “B-B-B-B-E-E” she repeated.

Twilight smiled "of course i am!" she said, returning the hug.
Nutmeg grinned and nodded "There you go!" she said, then thought for a few moments. "Nighstar, what's the easiest letter for you to say? can you say it for me?" she asked curiously.

Nightstar thought for a moment. “M” she said. “M-M-M-M-A-M-A” Nightstar said happily. She tilted her head confused, trying to show Nutmeg that she was asking why.
Midnight lay down. “What if nutmeg is teaching her more?” Midnight asked. “If she says a full sentence, I don’t want to miss it” she said. “But I know Nutmeg will tell me if she says a full sentence, or even a full word” she said

Nutmeg smiled "I thought so!" she said, then gave a secretive grin "So, I want to surprise your Mama! It will make her very happy! You have to try saying MA, like I do! MA. MA. MA" she said three times for effect, putting both the letters together strongly, and hoping the filly would get it.

Nightstar looked at her cousin and she thought for a moment. "M-MA-MA" Nightstar stuttered looking over at Nutmeg to see if she had done it right. "N-N-N-N-U-U-T-M-M-E-G" Nightstar said

"YES!' Nutmeg said, extremely excited as she gave her cousin a big hug. "That's right!!! Now try it like this. MAMA" she said, very slowly and carefully, the entire word.

Nightstar smiled when her cousin praised her. She thought again. "M-Mama" Nightstar said, her eyes glowing with excitement at her cousins excitment. "N-N-N-U-T-M-E-G" Nightstar said happily. Midnight pricked her ears a bit. "I think Nutmeg got Nightstar to say her name" Midnight said, not knowing that Nutmeg was really teaching her to say mama fully

Nutmeg almost leapt to her feet in joy, instead wiggling slightly and beaming at the little filly. "Yes Nighstar!! Yes!!! You said your first whole word!!" she said, giggling in happy excitement. "OK, now here's what I want you to do, for your Mama. Can you say it really loudly? As loud as you can? Say MAMA!"

Nightstar thought for a second. She didn't know how to raise her voice so she said it as loud as she possibly could. "M-MAMA" She said. Midnight pricked her ears. "oh my god." Midnight said, standing up. "did you hear that?" she asked. "Nightstar, she totally just said Mama." Midnight looked around. "did you hear it?" She asked. Stardust nodded. "I herd it" she said, her eyes glowing. "me too!" Beauty said. Specks nodded in agreement.

Nutmeg was grinning from ear to ear as she looked over at Midnight, seeing her disblief and hope. "That was it exactly!" she said, nuzzling Nighstar. "Can you say it again for her, one more time?" she asked.
Twilight raised her head from where she'd been calmly grazing, eyes shining. "I heard it too!!" she said. "You should go over there!" she encouraged.
