When they reached the hill once more, Rain gazed into her mates eyes. "Spirit" She said. "Can I ask you something?" Rain asked as she grabbed some grass from where she was beside her mate.

Midnight was so peaceful that when she woke up, the wind had picked up a bit. "Well there you are!" Specks said. Midnight smiled. "Hi" She said, nuzzling him sweetly. "Wheres Twilight?" She asked. Specks shrugged. "I didn't see her come over here" He said. "Oh, ok" Midnight said. "Don't you wanna go find her?" Specks asked. Midnight looked at him, and smiled....for the first time....shaking her head. "No." Midnight said. "I just...I'm happy here, with you, and our foals" She said. "I be if she needs me, she'll come find me" Midnight said. "Wow" Specks said. "Who are you and what have you done with my mate?" Specks asked. Midnight rolled her eyes. "Oh shut up" She said lovingly, nipping at his mane

Spirit nuzzled her "Of course" he said, looking into her eyes.

Twilight had moved farther off, knowing her filly was sleeping, and hoping to catch sight of Nutmeg. The wind whistled around her mane and she lifted her head, scenting hard, then smiling. Ah, a storm. While she knew she should be worried, the idea of cleansing rain filled her heart with peace.

Rain gazed at her mate and then down at her hooves. "I...I'm scared" She said.

Midnight snuggled into her mate and didn't even realize that Twilight still hadn't returned. "Mid, what has gotten into you?" Specks asked. "What do you mean?" Midnight asked. "Usually you're all about finding Twilight when you're not with her, why the sudden change?" He asked. "Because I haven't been with you in SO long. I just...I...I need a break" Midnight said. "From Twilight?" Specks asked, eyes wide. Midnight looked at the ground. "Kinda....I mean...I love her of course I do....but....I need you right now" She said

Spirit nuzzled her "Oh honey, it's just a storm! It's ok" he said.

Twilight continued grazing, but began moving east as she felt the winds brush past her face. Just to be sure that there wasn't any big threat on the horizon.

"I know that Spirit" Rain said, pawing the ground. "That isn't what I meant" She said gazing at the ground again. "I...I'm scared to be a mother" She whispered.

Midnight snuggled against her mate. "Do you think she misses me?" Midnight asked. "There you are" Specks joked. "SHUT UP!" Midnight joked again, nipping his mane once more. Specks laughed and nipped her mane right back. "Oh you think you'll win do ya?" Midnight asked, standing to her hooves and pawing the ground. "Come on!" She said, eyes flashing

Spirit blinked in surprise "Oh Rain, why? It's going to be amazing!!! You'll be amazing!" he said, nuzzling her.

Twilight sped up to a trot as the wind picked up again, heading for the edge. It wasn't long before she made it through the herd, and continued to the border path, slowing and nodding to the stallion on watch before stepping past him, eyeing the horizon worriedly. Dark clouds were stacking up, stretching along the horizon. It looked like it would be strong and fast.

"Because what if....what if I fail?" Rain asked him gazing into his eyes with fear

Specks snorted. "In front of the foals, really?" He asked. Midnight shrugged. "You're to scared to beat your mate!" Midnight said, laughing. "AM NOT!" Specks said. "I just got over a sickness Mid" Specks said. "I know" Midnight said. "But you need your energy back and this is the best way to do it!" She said, eyes glittering. "You'll never win!" Specks said, charging forward and bumping Midnight lightly. "Oh come on Specks. You can do better than that!" she said

Spirit nuzzled her "You could never fail darling, and you won't, i know you won't" he said.

Twilight kept her gaze on the horizon as the wind ruffled her mane, tossing the dark strands over her neck, whipping her tail behind her. This was a storm... and it was calling to her. Calling her to run. Without a word to the stallion she reared, then plunged forward, her neck bobbing as she stretched out, urging herself faster, faster. Her mane now whipped her neck like a thousand stinging whips, and her speed increased. It had been so long since she'd raced, and even longer since she'd raced a storm. Like thunder over the land she had been long ago when she was young. Electric adrenaline seemed to fill her veins and she threw her head to the skies, tossing her head and whinnying with joy as she raced straight towards the storm.

A light rain started falling as Midnight stood before her mate. She flared her nostrils. "To slow" Midnight said, eyes glittering. "I've beaten you before, and I will do it again" Specks said, determined. He let out a little neigh and then charged forward. Midnight's eyes grew wide and she darted away from her mate, but some how he was faster. He caught up to her and nudged her hard in the side. Midnight fell to the ground and then managed to stand back up. "I know you're scared to hurt me, but you won't" Midnight said. "I promise" She assured him, nuzzling him. Specks let out a laugh. "Ok" He said as he charged towards Midnight again. He once more knocked her off her hooves. He neighed his triumph. "I win again!" He said laughing.

Rain gazed up as rain began to fall. She looked at her mate. "I hope so" She whispered

Spirit moved closer to her, shielding her from most of the rain. "let's head down, it's easier to stay dry with the hill sheltering us" he said.

Twilight whinnied with joy as the storm and her almost collided. She could feel the tense energy from it as she wheeled, rearing as it seemed to spread out over her. Rain began to fall over the land, and she spun as lightning flashed faintly, a low rumble of thunder echoing over the hills. She was ready. Eyes narrowed, she plunged forwards, her hooves digging into the softening earth, her muscles rippling as she charged back, racing the storm. Her legs were a blur, hardly seeming to touch the earth as she moved up the hill, leaping over a ditch and thundering onwards. It had been too long since she'd let herself race recklessly over the land, and she'd dearly missed it. Letting out another whinny she threw herself forwards, her mane beginning to flatten against her neck with the rain, but her tail still waving behind her. All too soon she could see the faint form of the guard on the hill, and she cast a glance over her shoulder, sending a fiery triumphant look to the roiling clouds above her as lightning arced through them again. She was winning. With hardly a pause she flashed past the guard, almost seeming to lead the storm inwards as she stayed just in front of the darkening horizon.

Rain nodded and she stood to her hooves and moved down with her mate to the bottom of the hill, laying beside him where it was dry and almost...pressing into him.

Midnight laughed as Specks trotted around her. "Guess you still aren't fast enough to beat me!" Specks said as he moved to stand over her...like he always did after he beat her in something. Midnight smiled from where she was. "I'll get you one day" she said

Spirit moved down with her, sheltering her from the storm as the herd huddled about them at the bottom of the hill, heads down as the rain came cascading down harder.

Twilight tossed her head as she broke through the herd border, horses looking up from their huddles under trees as she flashed by. She let out a joyful whinny to assure all that she was simply in her element and no danger was there, just as the storm came rolling in after her, thunder booming. But she didn't stop. She felt like she would and could race it to the ends of the earth and back again. Her heart thudded with adrenaline as she neared the place where her sister had been sleeping. The rain created a light sheet, obscuring the dark figures from her until she was much closer. Finally she broke through, and she skidded to a halt, eyes widening. What was Specks doing? What had happened? Without pausing to think, the wild adrenaline still racing through her, she leapt forward and shoved him off her sister. "What are you doing?" She snapped, eyes flashing with fire as she stepped over her sister, barring Specks away from her, ears pinned, teeth clenched, her entire body language wild and protective.

Midnight was still laughing as Twilight shoved her mate out of the way. Midnight stood up instantly and she pressed herself against her mate. "What is he doing? What are you doing?" Midnight spat angrily. "You will not touch him!" Midnight spat as she nuzzled Specks. "Are you ok?" Midnight asked. Specks nodded. "Twilight we were playing" Specks said simply. "I didn't do anything to MY mate." He said as he nuzzled Midnight again. "Honestly Twilight, how could you think that?" Midnight asked as she nuzzled Specks and then turned as Apollo was whinnying for his parents.

Sunfire began trembling as the thunder boomed over head. She pressed against her mother and Sundacner pressed against her mate.

Rain gazed up at the sky and then suddenly pressed against Spirit. "Don't tell the herd I'm scared" she whispered

Twilight looked over as her sister stepepd around her, glaring at her venomously. She gathered herself, breathing hard, trying to let her racing heart calm down. "I thought.. he was standing over you... you looked like you'd fallen... I don't know!" she said, shaking her head in frustration and confusion. The angry snap to her sister's voice hurt almost as much as the thought that she'd been hurt. And seeing her comforting him, turning against her... hurt too.

Fuego reached down and nuzzled his filly "It's ok little one, it's ok" he said soothingly.

Spirit nuzzled her "I know darling, I won't" he whispered back, nuzzling her forelock.

"He's my mate, why would he hurt me?" Midnight asked, with a scoff as she turned and trotted to her colt. Specks blinked a little bit and then followed after her. "Thank you" He whispered. "I wasn't about to let her hurt you" Midnight said. "Mid, you just sided with me over your sister!" Specks said. "I know, because she thought wrong. I'll talk to her after the storm, but for now, Apollo is scared" She said, as she pulled her colt close to her.

"I'm scared dada" Sunfire whispered.

Rain smiled and lay herself down the rest of the way
