“Please.” Midnight said. “I’ve been practicing” she said, with a snicker.

Twilight raised an eye and snorted, pawing the earth "Well I just outran a storm... can you beat that?" she asked, a glint in her eye. "Three, two one... GO!" She yelled, charging forwards, her heart pounding with joy and determination.

[Abbster]

Midnight neighed loudly and reared charging the earth and catching up to her sister, “I think I’m winning!” Midnight called with a neigh as she raced passed her sister, her legs churning the earth.

Twilight counted her paces, letting herself save her energy, knowing how far they'd run. She grinned as her sister sped past her happily, not saving any energy. She obviously hadn't raced anyone in a while. She did speed up slightly, staying just at her sister's hip, mud flying up around them. "Hmm you sure about that?" she called when she got a breath.

“I will win!” Midnight said as she pushed herself forward. “Ha! I see Specks! I’m going to win!” Midnight said gleefully as her legs churned and she continued to race on the earth.

Twilight grinned. As soon as her sister said that, she unleashed all her energy, surging forwards, easily pulling up to Midnight, pausing to give her a grin, then pushing past her, mane flying as it dried in the wind, legs churning the soft earth.

Midnights legs gave out when she realized that her sister was going to win. Midnight reached her mate and she slowed to a trot. “All worked out?” Specks asked. Midnight nodded. “Yep” she said. “But…I’m out of breath” midnight said.

Twilight slowed and trotted around their family once before meeting up back beside her sister, looking at Specks and sighing. "I'm sorry I overreacted Specks, it was uncalled for" she said humbly.

“Its ok” Specks said, midnight smiled and snuggled against her mate.

Twilight smiled and ducked her head in thanks before moving over to her mate and nuzzling him. "Thank you for letting me go" she said quietly. Rusty looked up and nuzzled her in return. The foals were all asleep. "I could see you needed it. Did you beat the storm?" he asked with a smile around his muzzle. She snorted. "Did you doubt me?" she asked. He shook his head "Never" he said, and she lay down with a satisfied smile "Yes, yes i beat it" she said as she laid her head on his back lovingly. He smiled. "That's my spirited sunset mare, I know no clouds could beat you" he said. A smile spread over her face as she nuzzled his mane. "I love you, Rusty" she said softly as he reached up to nibble her forelock. "I love you more" he said softly.

Midnight looked at her mate and tears glistened in her eyes. “Mid, what?” Specks asked, “I want Twilight to lay her head on my back” Midnight admitted. “Oh honey” Specks said, nuzzling her lovingly. “You’re the younger sister, you can’t protect her. You protect Starlight and Nightlight.” Specks said. “Yea..I guess….but I just….she’s never done it to me and I….I just wish” she stopped as Specks held her. “I know”

Twilight sighed comfortably as Rusty shifted so her head was more settled. "Comfortable?" he asked, and she could feel his words rumbling from his chest. She smiled and gave the slightest nod "Very" she murmured as her eyes began sliding closed, her body tired.

“Twi….I….” Midnight stuttered….she was asleep. Midnight sighed. “It’s not fair.” She whispered. “I want her to lay her head on my back” she muttered. Specks nuzzled her lovingly. “I don’t know what to tell you honey” Specks said. “I know” midnight muttered.

Twilight remained sleeping peacefully, but Rusty heard Midnight's call. He looked over, and saw her sad expression. What was she sad about? He hoped it wasn't that she was sleeping beside her, because he hadn't been able to in days, and he missed her.

Midnight felt Specks nuzzle her gently and lovingly and his tail curled around her. Midnight smiled and shifted a bit so she couldn’t see her sister. Her eyes closed and she fell asleep almost instantly.
