Midnight nodded and walked back in the direction she had ran. "We should walk the day, like we do when we're in the herd, then stop to eat at night fall" Midnight suggested, flicking a fly off her butt with her tail. "lets start heading in the direction i ran from now, if we hurry, we could cover enough ground before night fall." then midnight thought for a second. "if we can't find them before the winter, they won't be moving until spring, so then we will have a ton of time to find them before they move again." her fillies and her mate flashed in her mind, she smiled and sighed softly. "i hope they're waiting for us." she finally admited

Twilight smiled in agreement "Yes, that makes sense" she said, beginning to walk as she glanced back over at her sister. "I hope so too" she said softly, a pang of fear striking her heart. Once in a while she still got nightmares of Rusty with another mare.. moving on without her.. her fillies with a stepmother... shaking the thought away she turned a cheery smile to Midnight. "They will be, and we will find them" she said optimistically.
(btw, how long HAVE they been gone xD? I haven't been keeping track)

(lets say 6 months)
Midnight nodded slightly, her heart not believing what twilight said while her mind wanted to believe it. The two kept a good pace throughout the day and each time Midnights mind was full of thoughts of her family. What if they weren't waiting for them? What would be waiting for them? Her mind was spinning so fast with thoughts that she had to slow down slightly. She caught back up to her sister and gazed up at the sky. The sun was starting to go down, it would be dark soon. "ya think we should walk until dark?" she asked. "or, maybe through the night?"

Twilight kept up her ground eating lope for most of the day, slowing when they needed to regain energy, and pausing to grab some grazing time and water before moving on. Slowly night began to fall, and they slowed to a walk. Glancing over at Midnight she replied "I think just until dark, we need to reserve our energy, if we keep going then we'll have to sleep in the day, and that's more dangerous" she explained.

Midnight nodded and kept a good pace until the last bit of sun dipped behind the clouds and the sky grew dark. Midnight looked around, she couldn't see any cover, and it would be dangerous to sleep out in the open. "i don't see any cover" she said. looking around again. "do you?" a few feet ahed, there was a bush below a giant tree. "this could do" she said, using her last bit of energy to trot up to it. She circled it slightly before squeezing under the bush and settling herself down. (do you wanna time skip soon? to when they're finally home or no)

Twilight nodded, frowning as she looked around, then trotting after Midnight. IT was a small space, but she managed to push herself under and lay down beside her sister. "Good night sis" she said softly, nuzzling her.

Midnight yawned the next morning and she nuged her sister. The sun was just starting to rise, which ment they would have a long day of walking ahed of them. "before we start" she said, squeezing out from under the bush. "can we eat first?" the grass around them was green and very tasty looking. Midnights belly rumbled with hunger as she bent her head to munch on some grass. (let me know when you want to time skip)

Twilight woke up, yawning and nodding in response "Of course, we need to get our energy up first" she agreed, getting to her feet and stretching before glancing at the sun to figure the time. Seeing they truly did have enough time to eat, she bent her head to graze, glancing up once in a while as her wild instincts began to return, keeping her on the alert.

Midnight finished eating when her belly was full. She looked over at her sister and waited for her to finish eating herself. Midnight looked around. Still, this place didn't look familiar at all. She sighed. They had been living in a barn for a while, no wonder nothing looked familiar. She poked twilight. "ready?" she asked before swishing her tail over her butt to flick away a mosquito.
(my next post ill ts, so a day before they get home or the day of?)

Twilight glanced up as Midnight spoke, swallowing before nodding. She as full enough, and her energy was resored. "Let's go" she said, tossing her head and picking up a slow canter.
(I say the day before, so we can set the mood)

(3 months later, one day before they find their herd)
The first snow of the year had come, the ground was covered in a white blanket. The herd would be stopped for the winter by now. Midnight shivered slightly. Snow was stuck to her hooves, and it was hard to walk through it. She sighed slightly. It had been three months and they still had yet to find the herd. "its been 3 months since we left the barn" midnight suddenly said. "what if we never find them?"
(i said three months, bc it seems realistic)

(wooo long trek for them poor horsies xD. But yes, it does seem realistic)
Twilight sighed ears flat as she trudged through the snow, clumps of it freezing on her legs and tail. She glanced over at Midnight beside her, and attempted to perk up her ears. "Hey, that's no way to think! We've made it this far, haven't we? Don't worry, we'll find them. You just have to keep believing." she said, nuzzling her sister. "Besides, don't you remember the hoofprints we saw last week, before the snow came? They were headed in this direction, so if we keep moving, we can catch up. And even if it's not our herd, they can shelter us for the winter, or maybe they'll know where our herd is!" she said, nuzzling her sister encouragingly again and taking a step closer to her, hoping to stop Midnight's shivers with the heat of her body.

Midnight nodded. "yea, ok" she said with a small sigh. It got dark much earlier now that it was winter. They had walked since sun up, and now the sun was begging to go down." Midnight shivered again. She wasn't tired quite yet. "why don't we walk for a while longer and stop when we get too cold" she suggested. "unless you want to walk through the night tonight." some nights, they would walk through the night and not sleep until the next night. "we got a good amount of sleep last night, so if we walk through the night, we have a higher chance at finding our herd sooner." she said, with a hopeful glance towards her sister. Then again, Midnight was still scared they would never find their herd again

Twilight smiled encouragingly and pushed herself onwards through the glistening snow. After a few hours the sun began to set, disappearing behind distant hills. Hearing her sisters voice she looked over, frowning worriedly "You aren't too cold are you?" she asked. "If you aren't we can keep walking, but if you are we should lay down for a bit and get you warmed up first." she said.

Midnight knew her sister was right, but she also knew that if she layed down, she would fall asleep. "lets just sleep tonight" she said, shivering again as a cold win blew. Midnight looked around and found a bush a few feet away. "that should keep us warm" she said, walking towards it and getting herself settled underneith it. Her eyes slowly closed and she fell asleep. The next morning (the day they find their herd) Midnight saw sun streaming into the bush. She opened her eyes and looked out from under it. She smiled slightly at the new day. "come on" she said, getting to her feet and shaking off scraps of bush from the night before. "theres no grass to eat, so we should start moving."
(i was going to have beauty spot them first, unless you had something else in mind)
