Stardust slowly backed away from her aunt, now frightened at the tone. She looked at her mother and Midnight sighed slightly. "Go get your uncle, I'll take care of this" she said to Stardust who nodded and raced to Rusty. She quickly explained what happened and then went bolting back to her aunt. When she got their, her mother was gone. Midnight looked Twilight straight in the eyes and said very sternly. "stay here. ok? stay here" She turned and bolted to where Spirt and Diamond always grazed. Spirit looked up as she approached. "Midnight" he said. "Don't Midnight me" She snapped. Spirit looked at her, a bit of shock in his green gaze. "You know what you did to my sister all those years ago, and I will NOT, let that snob bag you call a son, do it to my niece. So its either you tell him to stay away from Songbird, or I'll make sure my mother exiles you and your entire family." Spirit just looked at her, shock in his eyes. "are we clear?" Spirit nodded slightly and went off to find Buttermilk. "Midnight.." Diamond started. "I don't want to hear it Diamond. You and Spirit crushed my sisters heart, so stay out of our life or I'm serious, I will have my mother exile you and your entire family." Her eyes burning with anger and hatred she stalked away

Twilight blinked in surprise as Midnight, looking rather fiery all of the sudden, wheeled and raced away through the herd. A moment later Rusty came up and she glared at him. "Rusty, how could you?" she whinnied in a low tone. "You know what Spirit did to me, almost did to us. How could you let his son get close to OUR daughter?" she asked, advancing on him accusingly. "Or did you perhaps think it didn't matter because i wasn't coming back?" she asked, ears pinning.

As Midnight walked back to her sister, she was stopped in her tracks as Spirt came up to her. "No" he said. "I won't make him stay away from Songbird, he's in love with her, and I can't change that." Anger pulsing through her, Midnight pinned her ears to the back of her head. "then you have left me with no choice." She turned and headed for the direction of her parents. "oh no you don't" Spirit said, all of a sudden slapping her in the side with his back hoofs. She let shriek of pain and alarm before spinning around facing him. "Don't mess with my family." Her ears were pinned to the back of her head and her eyes were filled with rage. She reared up on her back legs and slapped his chest. Not backing down, Spirt lunged at her and bit her in the neck. "You will let my son be in love with Songbird." he said. "or what?" she rasped, barley able to stay on her feet at this point. The fire in her eyes still raged through her, she reared up again and kept on hitting. He knew she wouldn't back down unless he did something worse. Rearing up one final time, Spirit slapped his front hooves down on her back. Midnight let out another shriek of pain before she fell to the ground.

(ok wow that's drama)
Before Rusty could react to Twilight's tirade, a shriek rang out across the herd. Twilight spun around. Midnight! She raced through the herd, heart pounding as she pushed her way through the horses, coming across a scene that made her see red. Spirit, standing above Midnight, who was crumpled on the ground with two clear hoof prints on her back. Twilight almost snarled with anger as she raced forward, head down, slamming herself into Spirit as hard as she could. "YOU STAY AWAY FROM MY FAMILY!" She screamed, taking up a defensive position in front of Midnight. How DARE he actually strike down her sister? He would be out of the herd by dawn, that she was sure of.

Spirit raced to Twilight's side. "if you ever hurt my mate again, you will be sorry." Midnights parents were racing over as well. Specks was ready to defend both his mate and Twilight. "Spirit" Sunlight and Night stood side by side in front of him. "Do you see what you've done to my daughter?" Night snapped, his tail pointing towards his daughter. "I'm sorry, but you are no longer accepted in this herd. You must leave by night fall." Sunlight added, glaring at him. "mama?" Beauty came trotting up and she screamed at the sight of her mother "Specks, go take care of your daughters." Sunlight said. Specks nodded and trotted to his daughters, leading them away. "I had to protect you Twilight." Midnight stuttered. "After everything you've done for me, it was my turn. But Buttermilk will still be in the herd." she coughed and Oreo was already racing over at this point. She was putting different ointments onto Midnights back. Midnights eyes were glazed with pain and she was almost crying.

Twilight glared at Spirit, her anger simmering and broiling beneath the surface. IF he took one single step nearer to her sister... But he didn't. And then she heard Midnight's pain filled voice. Quickly turning she lay down beside her sister, nuzzling her, tears beginning to flow down her cheeks. "Oh Midnight, you're so brave" she said softly "I'm sorry that I got so upset, i should have been the one to talk to him, I should have taken responsibility" she said, her heart aching. She wished she could take the pain away from her sister. Guilt began rising through her. If only she hadn't gotten upset... or really if she had just done what Midnight wanted and stayed at the barn her sister would still be ok. It was all her fault. She bent her head into her sister's neck, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"I'll be ok" Midnight said, looking into her sisters eyes. "I promise" Midnight was strong and she knew that she would be ok. Smiling slightly she swiped her tail over her sisters eyes, wiping the tears away. "don't cry Twily" Midnight said, "Spirit is leaving the herd tonight, and Oreo is fixing me up." she said, glancing at oreo who was still plastering things to her neck and back. "it really doesn't hurt that much anymore thanks to Oreo" she nickered

Tears still ran down Twilight's face, even as Midnight's tail attempted to swipe them away. "But if I hadn't held onto my old anger this would have never happened" she wailed, angry at herself more than anyone at the moment. "I got all upset without asking questions, If i could just put the past behind me you'd still actually be ok!" she continued, her ears pinning as she wished she could turn back time. She'd just upset the entire herd dynamics... with Spirit leaving, Diamond would leave, and probably if they had any young offspring now they would leave too... and a lot of the herd would probably not be pleased with that decision.

Midnight glanced at her sister. “You mean…if we had stayed at the barn with our caretakers?” She asked, her pain suddenly going away, but her heart realizing that she wanted to be back at the barn slightly too. “Mom” midnight said. Her mother looked down at her, “yes my darling?” She asked. Midnight nuzzled her mother. “Don’t kick spirit out of the herd just because of what he did to me, I know you could never forgive him for hurting both me and twilight bur his son has a crush on songbird, and if he leaves…buttermilk will leave too…and…I really don’t want to break my nieces heart.” Midnigt yawned slightly and leaned herself against her sister. In her ear she whispered. “I miss he barn”

Twilight's ears pinned slightly. That wasn't really what she had meant... but... back there it had been so simple. Everything was planned, nothing was dramatic... she shook herself out of the thoughts as Midnight spoke to their mother, a bit of anger rising in her chest as she realized Spirit would go unpunished for the attack on her sister, but also relief that the herd wouldn't be split. Nuzzling her sister she sighed into her mane. "I know sis... I do a little bit too. But it's just because we got used to it. We'll get used to this again too, you just wait and see." she said hopefully.

“It’s probably going to take another few weeks.” She sighed shakily. “Mama” beauty said, trotting up with stardust and specks beside her. “Yes sweetheart.” Midnight nickered. “Are you alright?” Midnight nodded. “Of course my sweet girl” she said with a nicker, leaning against twilight again. Some how the memories of the barn were flooding into her mind. “Can I have a second alone with twilight?” She asked. Her parents nodded and specks herded their daughters away. “My mind is whirling with thoughts of the barn” she muttered.

Twilight nodded understandingly "I know sis... but we'll come around. Humans have a way of twisting a wild horse's mind to become domesticated. But we are NOT domesticated, or we wouldn't have survived the last few months. We're strong, we've made it through so much, and we'll keep going. With our herd and our families." she said, nuzzling her sister again.

Midnight smiled and nodded. "I know you're right, but its going to take time." she said, gazing around at their herd who was moving about and grazing at the grazing grounds. She shivered slightly and pressed herself closer to Twilight. "I hate the winter" she admited.

Twilight nuzzled her "Yes, it will. And i hate winter to, i think most adult horses hate winter" she said with a slight frown as she gazed out over the deceptively glistening snow.
