The next day Midnight's scratches were feeling much better. It was a strange night being back with the herd. She still slept close to her sister the night before because she had been used to it. Midnight opened her eyes to see gray clouds and a light snow falling. She sighed and nudged Twilight lightly. "Its snowing" she whispered, as she saw Beauty bouncing around, eyes gleaming with excitement

Twilight remained with Midnight for the night, Rusty sleeping nearby with their daughters. In the morning she woke to Midnight's nudge, looking around sleepily before seeing the snow. A smile spread over her muzzle and she turned to gently nudge Nutmeg, who'd crept closer to her during the night. "Sweetie, look!" she whispered. Nutmeg opened her eyes, blinking drowsily until a snowflake landed on her nose. Her eyes brightened and she scrambled to her feet. "OOOH SNOW!" she said loudly. "Shhhhh!" Twilight responded with a slight laugh as Songbird and Rusty looked over both looking rather sleepy. Nutmeg flattened her ears slightly "Oops.. sorry Dad, Songbird" she said, then raced off after Beauty, frolicking in the snow. Twilight smiled watching them. It was so good to be a mother again!

Stardust raised her head and groaned when her little cousin let out a scream. She pressed herself closer to her father and went back to sleep. Midnight nickered and watched as Beauty and Nutmeg raced around trying to catch snowflakes on their flanks. It never worked. Midnight laughed. "it felt strange sleeping with the herd again, I was so used to just being with you, so having Specks near by and hearing Beauty's soft snoring was intresting. But it was amazing." she admitted.

Twilight looked over at Midnight, nuzzling her "I know, it was kind of strange... but also really good. And it was warmer" she added with a slight grin, glancing back over as Nutmeg charged by her, Beauty a few steps behind.

Midnight watched as Beauty caught up to her cousin and tagged her, racing away from her. Midnight laughed. "yes thats true, it was warmer, but the barn was also warmer, like much warmer." Midnight whispered, as she noticed Stardust and Specks start to wake up

Twilight snorted, but nodded in agreement "Well that's true" she acknowledged, glancing over at her still sleeping daughter and mate. Wow those two were tired. Almost as if they'd been up in the night... she frowned. Surely Rusty would have woken her if he wanted to talk to Songbird... right?

"Whats up with those two?" Midnight asked, glancing over at Rusty and Songbird who were still sleeping soundly. "Oh" Stardust perked up. "I woke up hungry last night so I went to the grazing grounds for a bit, I saw Songbird and Rusty grazing near by." she said. "I don't know, they must've been hungry too." she said, standing up and trotting over to the grazing grounds again to eat some grass. "thats normal" Midnight said, glancing at her sister. "if they sleep this late tommrow, we should do something about it"

Twilight glanced over as Stardust spoke, her expression clearing slightly. "Yes, that is normal" she agreed, then grinned "Oh we definitely should" she said, a twinkle in her eye.

Midnight stood up herself and shook the snow off her back that had stuck the night before. She glanced around. "Oreo wanted me to check in with her this morning" she said. "So she could make sure my scratches are healing properly." Specks looked at his mate as he stood up. "do you want me to go with you?" he asked. Midnight shook her head. "I'll be ok." she said, then she glanced at Twilight and flicked her tail which indicted she wanted Twilight to go with her.

Twilight stood up along with Midnight, nodding in slight surprise as her sister motioned for her to follow. Rusty woke up beside her, glancing up at her with sleepy eyes. "What's going on?" he said, yawning. She laughed, reaching down to nuzzle him lightly. "Nothing, I'm just going with Midnight to go see Oreo" she said. He nuzzled her back and flopped his head back on the ground, dozing off in seconds. She shook her head in amusement, then walked after Midnight.

Midnight felt better having twilight with her. When they got to Oreo, she smiled. “Hi Midnight” Oreo said, standing up. “You’re here to have your wounds looked at, yes?” Midnight nodded. With a nod Oreo trotted quickly over to midnight and looked over her back. “Everything looks good” she said. Midnight let out a breath of relief. She thanked midnight and walked back with her sister. “Thanks for coming with me” she said. “I felt better having you there cause you’ve been with me so much lately and it just felt right”

Twilight gave a sigh of relief as Oreo pronounced Midnight to be fine, nuzzling her briefly as they began walking back. "Of course" she said gently "You know i'm always going to be here for you!"

Midnight smiled and nuzzled her sister. “I don’t know why…but…it’s been so long since either of us had foals, I want another one, I was beautys age when our little sister was born.” She sighed. “But we just got back…and…we have have to deal with the whole songbird liking buttermilk thing.” She sighed. “Why is being a mother again harder than I thought?”

Twilight smiled "I know how you feel" she agreed, the thought of another little filly, or even a little colt, making her heart warm. But her feelings quickly clouded at the mention of buttermilk. "Yes, it is hard." she said, ears pinning. She still had to talk with Songbird about that.

"shes your daughter, so....maybe you should talk to her when she gets up? or like wake her up now?" Midnight suggested as they returned back to their familys. "Oreo said that all my scratches look great" she nickered, nuzzling specks and he nickered softly as well and nuzzled her happily. "Are you alright?" Specks asked her. She looked at him surprised. "yea, im fine...why?" she asked. "because you told me you didn't want me to go with you and then you had Twilight go with you." Midnight sighed. "I'll be back." she said to her sister. "keep an eye on Beauty for me?" she asked
