Enilair shrugged, ''I don't really know. I was born small, but I have always been apprenticed to Greynan,'' Enilair smiled, ''and he is in no way a warrior.''
''And maybe she will show him how to think on his feet. Never in my life have I ever met such a philosophical pup,'' Grthmé said, shaking his head, Grthmé gave a sudden grating laugh, ''we were like that too you know.''

Alistra looked curious once again "Ok... but what are you training for then?" she asked, still completely clueless as to how anyone could train for something unless it was physical.
Vaskra grinned slightly and glanced over at her companion "Well now, that is very true" She said with a low chuckle. "I think we both rubbed off well on each other, perhaps these two will slow their young minds to do the same" she said, her eyes twinkling.

Enilair thought a moment as to how the best way to explain to this very strange wolf, ''well you see its rather complicated, I'm not exactly training to become one thing, but many for when its needed. Like historian, strategist, pathfinder, things like that.''
Grthmé looked back at the dark wolf, a small fire building in his own eye, ''maybe, yes, maybe we will.''

Alistra raised an eye slightly "Huh..." she said, not quite sure precisely what he meant, but sort of getting the idea. "So... like you'd maybe become an advisor to your Alpha one day?" she asked, not seeing how any other job could be interesting.
Vaskra smiled at the look in Grthmé's eye, then glanced over as she caught part of the young one's conversation again. "Oh dear, well that is if Alistra can ever understand that action isn't everything" she said with another sigh.

''In a way, yes,'' answered Enilair patiently, ''except in many different ways, though not in taking care of pack matters, that of course is the Beta's job.'' He looked at her expectantly, hoping she finally understood, he had never met such a strange young wolf.
Grthmé listened in for a bit then laughed deep in his throat, ''they both definitely have a lot to learn. When do you think our alphas will return?''

Alistra blinked and went over what he'd just said in her mind a few times before giving up. "Ah" she said evasively, not wanting to admit to the other apprentice she didn't quite understand. Swiftly, she changed the topic "So, are you excited for this mission? I can't wait until we start, it'll be my first real mission and I know i'm ready!" she said eagerly, her eyes flaming with impulsive fire as she shifted on her paws, as if ready to get started immediately.
Vaskra sighed and chuckled "I think perhaps over the next few days I'll add some training about the ways of your clan." she said with a shake of her head at her apprentices one track mind. At Grthmé's question she glanced over to the forest. "I would think soon, the sun moves swiftly and light will be precious these next few days." she said solemnly.

Enilair smiled at the active young wolf, ''oh, yes, I am definitely excited, I really don't know what to expect. Do you think we will actually have to fight elves,'' he asked a little doubtfully.
''Very true,'' Grthmé answered following her gaze with his single eye. He asked suddenly, ''Vaskra you know I've never been good with young ones,'' his impassive mask returning slightly as he said this, but continued speaking, ''do you have any advice as to how I should train him, any insight you gained from your experience?''

Alistra blinked in disbelief at Enilair. "Oh most definitely! Since there are ten of them i'm hoping to at least get one or two myself" she said an eager grin on her face as she imagined actually being able to use all her training and skills to topple the tall enemies. A sudden thought stalled her excitement "Although the distraction party will be there too, so they might end up taking away a lot of them... and i'd have to get in before Vaskra and your mentor" she said, glancing back to their mentors who seemed in deep discussion.
Vaskra looked back to the one eyed wolf with a slight smile at his admittance. "Each apprentice takes a different training... but what i've learned from this young wolf, is that if you minimalize praise, when you do give it it boosts their confidence extremely. And most of all you should be ready for their lack of knowledge." she paused, looking over to his apprentice thoughtfully "For Einlair, i'd suggest you train him as much as possible, and as hard as possible, as we only have a few days time. Under normal circumstances with a wolf with his lack of physical knowledge i would say train him slowly, building up his muscles and strength with short runs and jumps, but we do not have time for such a soft approach" she said regretfully.

Enilair looked doubtfully at the lithe female before him, trying very hard to imagine her taking down ''one or two,'' it didn't work. He merely shrugged. ''Oh yes, I forgot about the distraction party. I wonder how they will surprise the elves. Hmmm maybe a surprise rear attack, or maybe a strong, well played, frontal ambush. Oh I will bet they will choose the surrounding formation, or not as it does use a lot of wolves, but then again there are only ten elves, oh wait no, the elves would merely say say that they would kill the boy. Hmm oh I know! They will do a van and rear ambush half our force will be a few measures in front of the others and they will all lie and wait then when the elf army passes by the front force will attack and surprise the elves and, after the signal is given then the wolves will destroy their rear.'' By this time Enilair's eyes were shining and he had all but forgotten about Alistra as he made battle plans, with each knew tactic adding on more wolves and enemies.
Grthmé nodded, ''aye, I just hope I can get enough in him before the day arrives, honestly, between you and I, I do not know what Alpha Froedi saw I the pup.''

Alistra nodded slightly, trying not to betray the confusion the felt at all these terms. Frontal... surrounding rear ambush... her mind was whirling by the time he stopped talking, and shook shook out her fur slightly to her her thoughts back. "Mm yes perhaps" she said vaguely. She had understood about half of what he'd said. As she looked at him when he finished speaking, she couldn't help but smile slightly. An almost dreamy look was on his face, his eyes were glowing, and he was staring into space, apparently dreaming up all these different attacks. "So.. you do like battle statistics too?" she said, then added quickly "That's neat, I don't do too much of that as my clan doesn't really do full scale attacks, more like pairs that go out, guerilla warfare style" she said, the term popping into her head just in time, from a brief explanation her mother had given her of a mission years back.
Vaskra glanced back to the apprentice in question, then shook her head "Well I cannot judge, seeing as I do not know him, but he does seem to be more on the strategic side of things" she reluctantly agreed.

Enilair nodded, ''our clan is sort of like that too, at least those of us who are warriors. Like my parents and Grthmé.'' He glanced at the two older conversing wolves, ''do you think they know each other?''
Grthmé looked at her, ''very! I have been trying to tie in strategy with training. But he has this habit of thought before action. Which, granted, is a good thing, but he needs to learn quick thinking.''

Alistra gave an understanding nod, then glanced over as well "Well they have been talking for a while... and I think our Alpha said that my mentor knew your mentor" she said, tilting her head thoughtfully.
Vaskra chuckled "Opposite problem from my student" she put in, then nodded "It's hard to get them to learn a balance of both" she agreed with a slight sigh. "Perhaps that's why our Alpha's chose them both, to balance each other out." she smiled slightly "Much as we did in our past missions" she added.

''I wonder what their past was. I bet it was full of adventures. What do you think?'' Enilair asked his tale waging with excitement, ''imagine all the places either one of them were, all the campaigns they've lead....'' He trailed off mind lost in his fantasy of the past.
Grthmé looked at her slyly through his one eye, ''very true, very true. There are many interesting adventures we have had.''

Alistra's eyes sparked with imagination as she nodded "OH definitely!! I bet they went on lots of secret missions, maybe they've even seen the Elf King!" she said, her imagination quickly spiraling from there "I bet they've taken down hundreds of elves between them" she added with a mildly worshipful gaze towards their mentors. She hadn't necessarily thought about Vaskra's past much in her life, but seeing her with this other battle - scarred wolf definitely got her ruminating.
Vaskra gave a light chuckle at this "Ah yes... many" she echoed, memories of times long past shifting through her mind. Suddenly her ear twitched and she turned her gaze from the one eyed wolf, glancing behind her. Alpha Vanorr's deep throated chuckle echoed through the trees, his mottled brown coat emerging from the tree line.

Enilair nodded, ''they had to have at some point.'' He shook his fur, a shiver running down his back, ''I wonder what it would be like to go up against the Elf king himself.''
Grthmé turned and followed Vaskra's gaze. He watched silently as the two alphas approached, his face melding back into his impassive expression.
Alpha Froedi directed his gaze toward the flat stone where the mentors and their apprentices sat, ''looks like they are getting along fine,'' he said laughing a little.
