"NO!" Sugar suddenly said. "Let me stay with you" she asked him, standing up. "I feel safe here...and I know you'll protect me" then she looked over at her friends. "but I don't want to leave my friends" she said

Galmúr jumped slightly as Sugar suddenly bolted upright, almost pleading with the old donkey. Another stab of guilt struck him. She didn't feel safe with just him and Artemis. "Nacho... do you think.." he glanced over to Artemis who was still silent. "Do you think I could.. or we could.. perhaps one day visit the Swifthoof herd?" he questioned hesitantly.

The old donkey stopped walking and turned back, ''my dear sweet friend, I won't be far, nothin' will hurt ye, 'specially since you got the son of Rassak the Warrior as a companion.'' At Galmúr's inquiry he turned his soft gaze back to the buckskin, ''sure, any time boy, just name the date an' I'll take ye.''

Sugar sighed and she nodded. "ok..." she mumbled. "Do you think we can go soon?" she asked. "I just want to live with a herd again"

Galmúr couldn't help the flash of sudden, unusual pride that flashed through his veins as he nodded to the old donkey. At any other time in his life, those words would have made him more than angry... but now, for the first time he felt that he was truly able to embrace who he was, with pride. "Thank you Nacho" he said solemnly, then turned to Sugar with a slight smile, nuzzling her. "I think we should wait a little bit" he said, looking over to Artemis. Hugging Sugar, he slowly moved past her to the black friesian, nudging her gently. "Artemis, are you ok?" he asked, his voice gentle and slightly uncertain.

Nacho bobbed his head toward Galmúr, ''farewell, fair friends, dear comrades, and kind companions, I will see you on the morrow.'' With that he bounced back into the wood and disappeared.
At Galmúr's question Atemis quickly looked up, ''It just,- Ya fine,'' quickly trotting to Sugar's other side she began talking to the filly, ''I want a herd too, but we have to bide our time.''

Sugar nodded and sighed. "Do you think any herd will welcome us...?" she finally asked her friends, as tears began in her blue eyes. She looked down at the grass as a tear fell off her cheek.

Galmúr's ears flattened slightly as Artemis turned from him and walked over to Sugar. She never kept things from him. But he could tell the black friesian was not telling her the truth. Something was bothering her, but for some reason she couldn't share with him. Shaking the feeling away, he walked over to Sugar, nuzzling her. "Hey, of course they will Sugar, you just wait and see" he said, then added "But I agree with Artemis, we should wait a while... none of us are ready for that yet" he said, glancing at the black friesian.

Artemis bent her head to graze, but found she wasn't hungry, she walked toward the river and tried to drink. Lifting her muzzle she asked casually, ''So- what's the plan for today

"I think we should...." Sugar stopped as she heard rustling in the bushes, she looked up and began trembling slightly, pressing herself close to Artemis, but then, a little rabbit hopped out from the bush and Sugar looked down, her face hot in embarrassment.

Galmúr watched with a keen gaze as Artemis moved listlessly around, a certain note of... well he didn't really know what... in her tone. As he walked towards the two fillies, he was attracted as something moved in the brush, quickly turning to look, then relaxing as he saw the rabbit, turning back to the fillies. Sugar was pressed against Artemis, and he could see that her nerves were quite on edge. "I think it might be good to have a calm day, perhaps resting, and perhaps some exploring if we get bored" he said, glancing at Artemis again. It highly unsettled him to know that she was keeping something from him.

Artemis nodded distractedly, as much as she wanted to she could not shake the dirty feeling of envy. She new it was not fair to Galmúr and that it showed a prideful heart, but.... Suddenly a rabbit popped out of the brush, she could not help but smile slightly. ''I'll tell him,'' she said to herself, ''sometime.''

"I think Galmur is right, and we should just stay here for the day" Sugar said, as her nerves were still very much on end. Her ears were pricked forward and she kept darting her head around at the littlest sound. "Sorry..." she mumbled. "I guess I'm just jumpy this morning"

Galmúr smiled at Sugar "No need to apologize, I think we're all feeling a bit tense" he said, unable to stop himself from glancing towards Artemis again as he said this. The involuntary movement annoyed him, and he suddenly shook himself. "Well, I think i'm going to get rid of this somber feeling" he said cheerfully, trotting away from the two fillies and suddenly leaping into the fast flowing river, water splashing up around him as he landed.

Artemis smiled, her feelings momentarily forgotten as she raced to follow Galmúr's example, water makes everything better she thought, splashing her friends. ''Common Sugar,'' she called.
