Lorcán was about to walk off, when he glanced back to his apprentice. Hmm... well it was never too soon to teach the yearling of guard points and strategies. "Come with me while I organize the warriors" he said shortly, turning and trotting off. Galmúr had been looking forward to a quiet evening of grazing, but his hopes were dashed by his mentor's words. He turned, slightly tiredly, but quickly perked himself up as he saw where they were going. The two chestnut mares stood gleaming in the fiery sunset, the apprentice facing the mentor as the latter spoke seriously. What he did not notice was Charger gazing worshipfully from where he stood, completely ignoring his own mentor. Lorcán let out a strong nicker as he approached, and Adira lifted her head to him, smiling slightly then swiftly dipping it, glancing down at the buckskin yearling that followed his mentor. "I was just discussing possible guard points with Sabine.. I assume that is the mission you have for us?" she inquired before the gray stallion had time to speak. A flicker of a smile dashed over the head warriors face before he nodded stolidly. "Precisely. I would like for you and Sabine to take the night watch, my apprentice and I shall relieve you halfway though the night. I trust you to find a suitable guard point, although if Tulpar finds you out there he may show you the most advantageous one himself" he said firmly. Adira gave a swift nod. "I expected such" she said simply, then gave another nod to show she understood. "We shall begin this moment. Sabine?" she said, glancing down to her apprentice, then raising an eye slightly. The filly was glaring almost muderously over at Lorcán's apprentice, who's ears were flattened, he blushing slightly and looking extremely embarrased and apologetic. What had she missed? Sabine suddenly seemed to come back to earth and whipped her head up, her ears pinning slightly in embarrasment at her unintentional ignorance. "I'm ready" she said swiftly, pointedly keeping her gaze away from the buckskin. "Let us go" Adira said simply, although she made a mental note to speak with her apprentice on this strange encounter sometime during the night. Spinning, the two leapt forward into a canter, heading into the setting sunlight, disappearing with the last rays over the horizon, two deep amber eyes watching them go with frustrated apology. Would he ever get the filly to forgive him for his apparently heinous words? If only he knew why....

Treth looked over to the remaining scouts, the ones who were not away on patrol. He was choosing who should take the shift after he and Artemis returned, he knew Earl was to be off after Captain returned with Raider, and his next choice, Nebula, was already going to get back from her trail rather late. Hmm.... his eyes fell on Reckless, a sturdy blood bay middle sized horse. He didn't really know much about Reckless, he had come to the herd as a yearling, much like the three that had joined only a few days ago, but he was very reliable and Treth trusted him. He left Artemis to her grazing and trotted to the blood bay stallion, ''Reckless, will you take the patrol of the woods after my apprentice and I return,'' he asked. ''Of course,'' Reckless answered simply, he was never a horse of many words, another thing Treth liked about him. ''Thank you,'' the head scout responded before returning to Artemis.

Sugar sighed again, and Cinnamon looked over at her. "what is it Sugar?" She asked, from where she lay near by. Sugar looked over at her. "Well....its just that....I've never slept without my friends beside me before" Sugar told her. Cinnamon smiled gently. "Oh Sugar" she said. "It will be ok." she promised. "But you just need to understand that you won't always be able to sleep beside them like you used to. They're in training now, and if they have to keep night watch, or do a night patrol, you will just need to learn to be ok with that" Cinnamon said. "I know" Sugar said. "Good night, Cinnamon" She said. "Good Night Sugar" Cinnamon said.

Lorcán continued moving through the warriors, giving them their times to patrol and areas, his apprentice listening with quite a lot of interest, having forgotten his aching tired legs. The gray stallion glanced down as they approached the last warrior, Creampuff. "Now Galmúr, considering all the other positions and times we have given the others, what position and time should this stallion get?" he questioned before they reached him. Galmúr looked up in slight surprise, not expecting the question, then frowned thoughtfully, tossing his mane slightly as he thought, as was his habit, and making the gray stallion start slightly, turning his head abruptly to watch the white stallion they were moving towards. So like his grandfather, so like his cousin... Lorcán's eyes clouded with memory, then he shook himself out of it as he heard his apprentice's voice. "... Equinox being during noon, shouldn't Creampuff take the northern edge in the afternoon?" the buckskin asked, looking up to his mentor, completely unaware of his moment of distraction. Lorcán's eyes were slightly softer than usual as he nodded "Precisely. Now how about you give him the order?" he suggested, feeling in a rather generous mood, old memories flashing over his thoughts. Galmúr's eyes brightened at the thought and he gave a short nod, stepping ahead of his mentor as they reached the white stallion. "Creampuff, All other warriors have been given their places and times of patrols, could you take the northern edge, afternoon?" Galmúr questioned in a serious tone, standing tall and strong as he looked up steadily at the stallion.

''Alright,'' Treth said to Artemis, ''I hope you are well rested for this is going to be a long night. Artemis looked up from her grazing, her eyes alight, ''I'm ready,'' she responded. ''You should be,'' he said with a smile, ''what do you think I've been training you for?'' Swiftly they both began catering towards the forest and entering its darkening eaves.

Sugar sighed again and watched as the last bit of sunlight disappeared. Although, for a while she just lay there. She missed the feeling of her friends pelts beside her, but she knew that now that they were in a herd, things were different. Although for some strange reason, Sugar sort of wished that they weren't in this herd. No one seemed to even like her except for her two friends.
Creampuff blinked for a moment. Why was he about to take orders from an apprentice? Creampuff snorted a bit as well. "Sure" He finally said

Lorcán gave a slight motion of a nod to the white stallion to alert him that it was on his orders, noticing the moment of hesitation. Galmúr slightly smiled with a serious look and gave a firm nod. "Thank you" he said sincerely, then turned to his mentor, who motioned for him to follow him away a bit. "Now then, we have all patrols set in motion. As we do not have watch until midnight, I suggest getting some good rest in now" the gray stallion said firmly. The buckskin apprentice nodded, slight tiredness flickering in his eyes. "Can I go over to Sugar?" he questioned. Lorcán paused then shook his head with just a slight glimmer of apology passing over his ace "It would be unwise, as you might wake both the healers from their rest, and we need them well rested at all times" he said firmly. Galmúr sighed slightly, knowing that Sugar would most likely be missing him, but nodded. "Understood" he said. His mentor gave an abrupt nod then turned and trotted off to go speak to the Lead Mare and alert her of the plan for the days ahead. Galmúr yawned suddenly and moved towards a lone large oak, settling under neath it and dropping his head as he began dozing off, remaining standing. He wanted to be ready.

Artemis and Treth entered the forest, she matched the near silent hoofbeats as best she could and at the same time tried to keep her body as alert as possible ears pricked, eyes darting and searching the trees surrounding them. ''The rouges are just a little ways further and to the south of us,'' he told her, ''we will pass rather close to them and hopefully catch a glimpse, we will need to report to the Lead Mare on the morrow.''

Shiver felt her eyes slowly close and she was eventually asleep. But the only thing that she missed was her friends pelts beside her. She felt cold without them…she didn’t feel safe without them.

Adira scented the air carefully as she and her apprentice moved closer to the dark forest. "North, ten leads, west wind" she suddenly said in a low voice. Sabine lifted her head and scented the same direction, ears flattening as well. She smelled it. The stallions. "Well at least they're still in the forest" she pointed out. Adira snorted. "True" she agreed, then moved forward. "Keep careful watch, and not just for the stallions. I know that scouts are being sent out to this area as well, and we do not want to run into them and cause undue commotion" she warned. Sabine nodded. "Understood" she affirmed quietly.

Treth and Artemis traversed the faint forest path in silence, their ears swivling back and forth taking in all the forest sounds. And really was strange how quiet it had gotten aside from the subsiding chirps of cicadas there was no bird sounds or even any of the general forest animals about. Artemis shuddered a little, the silence spooked her, but she didn't say anything in case Treth would find this as a sign that she wasn't ready to go on a night patrol or worse, that she wasn't cut out to be a scout. She shuddered again, but this time it was from the thought of being kicked out of the scout corps, no she could be strong, a little darkness never scared her. Treth walked along slightly ahead of her, he noticed his apprentice's involuntary movement, he smiled a little to himself, so much like I was when I was younger, he thought as memories of past patrols were unburied.

Sugar managed to sleep for a while before waking up in the middle of the night. She glanced around, and sighed, realizing her friends were not beside her. Laying her head back down on the grass, she closed her eyes and fell asleep once more

Adira led the way into the forest, her apprentice just right behind her as they moved through on a small forest path. The chestnut mare suddenly let out a low rumble, slowing her steps. Sabine caught the meaning and swiftly switched places with her, now at the front. Now both of them could scan the forest ahead, the mentor being tall enough to look out over her apprentice's back. Sabine's ears twitched as an owl hooted it's haunting call somewhere off to their right, and then the swift flap of wings, and a high pitched scream of a rodent a few moments later. The owl would not go hungry tonight. Her ears swiveled another direction as she caught a zephyr, scenting thoroughly and narrowing her eyes. The stallions stench was strong... but still not immediately close. And so the two moved forward silently through the dark forest.

Treth halted suddenly, Artemis slid to a stop behind him, ''I smell horses,'' he whispered to her. Artemis lifter her nose to the breeze, she caught the wiff as well, ''do you think it could be rogues,'' she asked quietly. Treth shook his head, ''way ahead yes, but these seem more familiar, no doubt Lorcán's warriors, but we should go and see just in case, you never know, and you can never be too careful. Treth resumed his walk then after a few more meters perceived in the tree line a chestnut mare and a younger horses beside her, ''ah it seems I was right, it is Adira and her apprentice Sabine. Come we should go and find out if they have any news, though there is hardly any doubt that they have just begun their patrol for they still seem rather fresh, but then again warriors are known for their endurance are they not?'' By now they had approached the two horses, ''Adira hello,'' he said giving a respectful bob of his head to her before giving an acknowledging nod to her apprentice, ''how goes everything with you?''
Artemis gave a friendly smile to Sabine, she remembered the young horse from earlier. She was the one Galmúr could not take his eyes off of, Artemis remembered giving an internal laugh. She really didn't know how the other horses would respond to her but she just did it to appear friendly.
