Sabine's ears suddenly flicked and she turned her head, letting out a low nicker of warning as she trained her eyes on the dark forest. Adira jerked her head over then relaxed. Familiar scents. No danger. She could see Sabine relaxing in front of her as well. "Scouts, Treth... and I think that new one" Sabine said, her ears flattening slightly as she said this. Adira sighed slightly to herself. Her apprentice really needed to start trusting... even with her past. She just had to let go, no matter the pain it would give her. Her thoughts were broken as she heard the deep voice of the Head Scout. She dipped her head in greeting, glancing down to his apprentice as she did so, then looking back to him eyes serious at his question, and keeping her voice in a low tone. "All goes well with me. Stallions scented up ahead a ways, thankfully sticking to the forest it would seem" she said shortly, then added with a slight tilt of her head "And you?" she asked.
Sabine's eyes immediately hardened at the sight of the black yearling following the Head Scout. Her ears pinned slightly at her very friendly smile, and she did not reciprocate it. Why should she? She knew nothing of this filly. The fact that they were fellow apprentices changed nothing. She stiffened herself slightly and unknowingly drew her head up and back in a defensive posture, her eyes staring with steel fire.

Treth nodded his head solemnly, ''I am glad to hear that,'' he said sincerely, ''my apprentice and I scented them earlier but I could not tell as to wether it was old.'' He shook his head, ''no we have just entered not very long ago and all is quiet. Have you a strategy as to how you were going to patrol, I would like to find the most effective way to go through the forest without crossing paths more than necessary.''
Artemis was rather surprised at Sabine's hostile return of her offer of friendship but she decided just to let it be and turned her attention towards the two conversing mentors.

Gus looked at the ground for a moment, and then he heard Artemis near by. "Applejack, can I go talk to Artemis real quick?" He asked. Applejack nodded, and Gus thanked him before cantering over to Artemis. "Artemis!" He said. "Hey" He looked at the guards and then back to Artemis. "can I talk to you for a second?" he asked her. "Its uh....Its about Sugar" He said in a lowered voice.

Adira gave a slight nod of acknowledgement, then looked thoughtful "Well I was planning on moving east until i could get within a closer range of the stallions, and then move south around them before retracing our steps back" she said after a moment. Suddenly the yearling Gus cantered through the forest, sliding up and calling to Artemis before speaking quietly with her. Adira's eyes hardened slightly. Really, such an experienced yearling, and creating such a commotion during such an important patrol!!
Sabine's glare was even harsher as she almost seemed to wish to burn the yearling to the ground. What was HE doing here, abandoning his duty, endangering their patrol, and holding them up, and not even requesting permission to speak to Artemis from the Head Scout, but just barging right in! She snorted, eyes narrowed at the two.

Treth nodded thinking through this strategy, and finding it sound, ''that is a good plan. Then my apprentice and I will continue north before cutting east as well but we will be farther up than you, then cut down south again, most likely after you have already past and are already patrolling their more southern border.'' Suddenly two of his other scouts appeared, how do we all find ourselves in this part of the woods at the same time he mused, I will have to organize these patrols better.
Artemis looked back at Treth who nodded his permission, ''sure,'' Artemis told Gus, ''is she alright?''

Gus looked a little bit nervous now. "oh...uh....yea she's fine" Gus said. "I....uh.." He began stuttering, and he could feel the guards watching him. He gulped a bit, pawing at the ground. "I..." he lowered his voice a bit. "I like her" he whispered to Artemis.

Adira frowned in concentration as she mapped out how the patrol would work, then gave a satisfied nod. "That is certainly sound reasoning" she agreed, her gaze once again shifting to the scout yearling colt who was speaking with the filly. A look of disapproval shifted over her face again, and she swished her tail. "We should begin now, before this disturbance brings more visitors" she said with a pointed look.
Sabine agreed. She glared at the two, then suddenly moved closer to them. "Hey moss brains, we're in the middle of a patrol, in case you haven't noticed. If you two keep chattering like sparrows you'll bring all the rogues down on us." she almost hissed in an exaggeratedly quiet voice, glaring at them both with a kindling look that defied any argument. Adira sighed from behind her apprentice. So harsh. Although she didn't blame her as those were her own sentiments, but her choice of speech was... unnecessary to say the least. "Sabine" she said in a very quietly admonishing tone. The fillies ears pinned in acknowledgement, but she didn't move her gaze from the two apprentices.

''I agree,'' he answered returning the glance, ''you can go on, Artemis and I will just make double time to make up,'' he said looking back at his apprentice.
Artemis smiled to herself remembering when Sugar said something similar to her earlier, ''why are you telling me this now,'' she asked with a glance at Sabine.

Adira gave a brief nod, nickering quietly to her apprentice before moving into the dark forest. Sabine's ears fully pinned and her eyes snapped with anger as both apprentices just ignored her. IGNORED her. And without wanting it to happen... a pang of hurt shot through her chest. Swallowing angrily at herself, she turned and swiftly moved after her mentor, speeding up to a smooth quiet canter as she attempted to dispell the sudden sadness and loneliness zapping her focus. Adira frowned as her apprentice moved past her and into the darkness, speeding up as well and giving a soft neigh for her to slow. Sabine flattened her hears in apology, slowing to a trot, and then a walk and letting out a slight sigh. Adira moved up beside her and briefly dropped her nose to give her shoulder a light nudge of understanding. She knew the filly did not like to share... but she also knew that she needed someone there to just understand her. Sabine looked up with a sudden look of gratefulness and vulnerability. "Come on now, you lead the way to the south" she said softly, motioning her head. Sabine gave a slight smile and nod, moving forward and returning her focus to the path.

Treth snorted slightly to Artemis telling her they should get going. Artemis looked back, ''I don't have a lot of time Gus, but I will tell you that Sugar told me the same thing, she says she likes you too. You know what, I think you should tell her that tomorrow as well,'' Artemis said with a smile.

Gus smiled. "I will" He promised. "Thanks for that" He said, before cantering back to Applejack, calling over his shoulder. "Sorry Treth!"

Adira's ears flicked back as she heard the not so faint voice of the apprentice scout yelling his goodbyes. Her eyes flashed with slight frustration as an owl was startled from a tree, flapping loudly upwards. Hopefully the rogues were not aware of such things. Sabine heard as well and let out a snort. That yearling... always thought he owned the world, she thought with an unreasonable bitterness.

''No problem,'' Artemis answered, trotting back to her mentor. Treth acknowledged Gus's apology with nod. ''Applejack be sure you report to me any of your findings to me later. Come on Artemis we should go,'' he said turning and quietly continuing threw the forest with Artemis beside him.

Applejack nodded. "of course Treth" He said, gaze hardening as he looked at Gus. "You know better than that" He whispered. Gus flattened his ears. "I know I should've asked Treth for permission before I talked to Artemis, but it couldn't wait" He said. Applejack sighed. "Gus, you know a healer taking a mate isn't allowed" He said. "I know.." Gus said. "But I can't help how I feel" Gus said
