Galmúr gave a swift nod "Oh of course!" he said quickly. At her second question he was about to respond in the affirmative, but paused. Wouldn't it show the lead mare more that she was ready to take on such a responsibility by asking herself? Hesitantly, he voiced this thought. "But if you ask, I think it might help your chances of her saying yes." he said.

Artemis nodded, ''Glamúr has a good point Sugar, but we both of course would be more than happy to come with you,'' she said smiling kindly.

“Ok” Sugar said with a nod. “I’ll do it. I’ll ask her…but I can’t go alone” She said. She knew both of her friends had already agreed to come with her. “Let’s go” she said, trotting in between her two friends as they made their way to the lead mare. When they reached her, Sugar looked at her friends. They both nodded, “Lead Mare, Aswan” Sugar said.

Galmúr gave a nod and followed her, trotting off at her side, then stopping when he saw the white mare, stepping back to let Sugar step forward. "Good luck!" he whispered quietly.
Swan lifted her finely shaped head as she heard a voice, turning and looking down at the yearlings. "Good Morning Sugar" she said in greeting, dipping her head to the other two as well "Artemis, Galmúr, congratulations on your first night patrols" she added with a glimmer of a smile before turning her attention back to the healer's apprentice.

Artemis nodded to Sugar and smiled her encouragement before stopping and allowing Sugar to be slightly ahead of her as she spoke her request to the Lead Mare. At Swan's acknowledgment Artemis smiled and nodded, trying to contain her excitement at the mention of last night.

Sugar pawed the ground a bit. “So…Cinnamon told me that herd healers aren’t allowed to have mates…” Sugar said. “I…well….Gus likes me….and I like him…..is it possible that I could….” She stopped, pawing the ground a bit more. “Well…..is it possible you could…..change the rules so I can be with him?” She finally asked

Galmúr smiled briefly and dipped his head low in thanks to the Lead Mare, then looked over encouragingly to Sugar. He knew it was a hard request, to say the least.
Swan looked to Sugar and her eyes widened. This filly! "You wish me to change a decades old law to fit for you?" she asked, eyes raised.

Artemis internally cheered Sugar on as she asked the Lead Mare to change the tradition. She winced slightly at Swan's answer, but Artemis also knew that Sugar would be brave enough to proceed.

Sugar stiffened. What was she supposed to say now? She had accepted the lead mare to say yes. Blinking a bit Sugar looked back at her friends, and then back over at the lead mare. "I.." Sugar stuttered. She pawed at the ground nervously. "I was hoping, yes" She said

Galmúr held his breath slightly, waiting to see what the Lead Mare would say to her response.
Swan gave a light snort, studying the filly hard. "I will convene with my council." she suddenly said shortly, meaning the two Head Warriors and Cinnamon.

Artemis glanced at her friends, that seemed like a fair and wise answer. Quite honestly she was very surprised that the answer was a flat no, but for her friend's sake she was very glad.

Sugar stood there for a second. What was she supposed to say now? She thought. “Thank you” was all she managed to get out. Sugar turned back to her friends and trotted up to them. As they were walking back, she flattened her ears. “Was that good enough?” She asked.

Galmúr's eyes widened slightly at the Lead Mare's response. She was actually CONSIDERING it? What a shock! He dipped his head to her again and swiftly moved alongside Sugar. "Oh definitely! I did not expect it to go that well!" he said enthusiastically.
Swan sighed. Great, another matter to speak on with her trusted horses. She honestly didn't even know why she hadn't said flat out no, but something in the fillies face had stalled her. She sighed again, then dropped her head to graze. It was of no time urgency, the filly was still young.

Sugar surged. “I suppose” she said, with a bit of a sigh. “I don’t think she’ll let me end up being with him” Sugar said. “I shouldn’t get my hopes up, that’s for sure.” Sugar said.
