Clover used her hind leg to tuck Snowflurry closer to her. She couldn't curl around her entirely, she was much too small to do that, but she tried her best. The poor kit was shaking, and Clover could do nothing but be there.

Juhi yawned once. "I think Rocky buried Peanut already. He's not a problem anymore." She added, changing the topic of the conversation. "It's past midday now. Will someone hunt for tonight? My chest wound isn't awful, but I don't want to completely reopen it."

[Abbster]

"I'll do it" Sunrise said. "I'd love to hunt for tonight!" She said, her eyes glowing with sudden excitement. She padded out of the barn, and returned a few minutes later with a sparrow, a few mice, a squirrel for maple, and a finch. "here" she said, putting them in the prey pile.

Snowflurry's eyes remained wide with fear as Sunrise padded out of the barn. "who's that?" she asked Clover.

Maple purred as Sunrise came back with a squirrel. "Squirrel!" she said, excitedly. "my favorite!"

Clover looked down at the kit- "Oh, that's Sunrise. She's another cat who lives at this barn. Altogether we have Me, Maple, Juhi Sunrise, and a tom named Rocky. He'll be back soon." She tilted her head. "Probably grumbling about mud or something."She added with a short laugh. After a bit, the orange tabby returned. "Go pick a piece. We have plenty." She nudged the kit up and at the pile of prey.

Juhi rolled her eyes, "Yay, Squirrel..." She muttered, picking the finch up and plopping down next to Maple, beginning to remove the feathers.

Snowflurry sniffed the prey carefully. She looked over all the different options that Sunrise had just brought back. She picked out a mouse and trotted back over to Clover, setting herself down and beginning to eat.

"well, we'll see you guys in the morning" Maple said, as she picked up her squirrel. "Come on Juhi" she said, jumping onto the boxes that lead to the loft. She padded over to her nest and dropped the squirrel on top, and settling down on her bed, beginning to eat

Juhi groaned, "Maple, really?" She began to follow her, carrying her finch, "I'm telling you. You're just like a rooster. You want to sleep at every other time but just before sunrise." She gestured for Clover to join them in the loft- it'd be safer for the kit. She jumped up the boxes, wincing at sharp pain from her chest wound, and settled down in her nest next to Maple, tucking into her prey.

Clover waited patiently for Snowflurry to finish her mouse. For such a small kit, she sure could inhale prey- a good appetite would surely help her grow. "We'll sleep in the loft tonight. With the other cats. Can I pick you up?" The tiny kit nodded, looking tired. She gently grabbed her by the scruff, leaping up the boxes with ease. She nodded to Maple and Juhi, then scraped a nest of hay together and dropped Snowflurry in the middle. She curled around the kit, falling asleep almost instantaneously.

Snowflurry snuggled up against Clover...but was awoken in the middle of the night, feeling hot. She blinked and let out a squeak of alarm, as everything around them was engulfed in flames. "C...Clover" Snowflurry just managed to get out. She nudged Clover hard. "C....Clover!" she said. "F....FIRE!" Snowflurry screeched. Her tiny body beginning to tremble once more as some debris fell from the roof above them. Snowflurry jumped back with a yelp, landing on Clover's back, trembling hard.

Maple heard Snowflurry's squeak, and she woke up. Blinking in smoke, and beginning to cough. "CATS OF THE VALE BARN!" Maple yowled. "THE BARN IS ON FIRE! EVACUATE!!" She said, looking at Snowflurry, who was trembling hard

Juhi was startled awake by Maple's yowling. She tried to draw in a breath but the smoke stung her throat and lungs, and she let out a hoarse cough. Smoke was funneling throughout the barn, pooling at the top. The fire was strongest, down by the barn entrance, she could see Rocky's figure pacing, trying to break through the flames. "Rocky!" She yowled, "The rafters! We get out through the Rafters!" When he began pelting towards them she turned to Clover, whose eyes were wide and panicked. "I'll take Snowflurry. I'll keep her safe. I'm the fastest in the trees." Clover nodded twice, turning to Maple. Juhi scooped the trembling kit up by the scruff and darted up the crossbeams, towards the hole. The exit. "This way!" She tried to yowl through the kits thick fur. Hopefully the others were following. The heat was unbearable. They broke out onto the roof, and only them did she turn back towards the loft. A creak echoed through the barn. "Come on! Faster!" She shrieked at them, tugging Snowflurry close to her.

Snowflurry let out another squeak as she was thrust into Juhi's mouth. She didn't complain, but her tiny heart was thumping in fear. Maple could see Rocky stumbling up the boxes, Sunrise behind him. "GO!" Maple yowled. "EVERYONE OUT FIRST!" She said. She didn't wait for an answer, she pushed the three cats through the hole in the roof. She was just jumping to get onto the roof, when a panel fell, and landed on top of Maple, cutting her in the side. Maple let out a shriek. Snowflurry blinked, as she heard a shriek. She looked back, from where she hung in Juhi's mouth. Everyone was out....Everyone but Maple.

Clover didn't hesitate to follow Sunrise and Rocky out through a hole in the roof. Maple was the only cat behind her. Just as Clover passed through the threshold of clean air, she heard Maple shriek behind her. Juhi immediately lunged back towards the hole, dropping Snowflurry gently onto the shingles, "No." Clover hissed, shoving Juhi away. "Get Snowflurry out. Go to Tern." She growled just before she dove back into the burning barn. A plank of wood lay over the she-cat, trapping her on the nearest crossbeam. She darted out towards her, wheezing as she tried to breathe through the smoke. Clover reached her quickly enough, using her forepaws to shove the panel off. Maple shrieked again as the plank tumbled down to the barn floor, three stray nails clawing through Maple's pelt before the wood fell away. Those must have been what cut her. The beams weren't large enough for her to support Maple. "Get up." She hissed at the she-cat, "Get up or we'll die soon enough."

Maple clawed her way out as her sides burned, blood pouring from them. With the help of Clover, they raced up and out of the barn. Maple was just barley to stay awake as her sides screamed at her. She raced through the woods, following Clover's every move. Finally, another barn came into view. This must be where Tern lived. They reached the barn, but Maple barley made it inside before she collapsed onto the ground, blood pouring from her sides from where the nails had ripped through her skin...one nail was still visible. Snowflurry, as soon as she was set down, and Clover arrived, rushed to her side, whining in fear, trembling. She stared at Maple as the she cat was now laying in a pool of scarlet blood. Maple did everything she could to keep her eyes from closing, but she had lost so much blood...it was hopeless. Slowly, the world around her went black. Snowflurry stared, her body still trembling. "w...what happened?" she asked in a tiny voice.

Juhi watched helplessly as Clover ducked back inside the barn. Tern lived too far away to go with an injured cat, but Goldfinch was staying at a barn on that path- Fennel's Barn. They'd go to the nearest one along the way. She scooped Snowflurry up again, and began her leaps between the trees. She did not go at her full pace until she saw two figures emerge from the roof, following her, though they were on the ground. She still didn't race as she could, keeping pace with Sunrise and Rocky. They arrived at Fennel's home quickly, after only about fifteen minutes of travel. While she wasn't winded, Sunrise and Rocky were. They climbed down through the trees quickly, Snowflurry squeaking as they landed on the ground. They rushed inside, not having time to make greetings or wait for an invitation. She quickly set the kit down on a patch of loose hay, instructing the two other cats to watch her. Maple and Clover arrived soon after. Maple looked awful, unsteady on her paws. She collapsed just when she entered the barn, blood leaking from three deep scrapes on her pelt. Snowflurry rushed right up to Maple, Clover beside her. "Nails!" Clover gasped, "Nails! She got hit by a board and they tore through her pelt." Juhi shoved both the smaller cats away, they were both panicking. Panic would be no help. A white and orange cat stalked into the barn, looking hesitant, though at the sight of Juhi and an injured cats she bolted to a far corner of the barn, grabbing something in her mouth.

Goldfinch did not ask questions. She only saw Clover, Juhi, and an injured cat. She snatched up her entire supply of cobwebs and an assortment of herbs. She did not hesitate to start her work on the injured she-cat. She was Juhi's companion. So she must be saved. She removed the final nail, and applied pressure to the deepest gash.

After a few minutes of working, Goldfinch shot Juhi a helpless look, "She won't make it without twolegs intervening. She's losing too much blood- these are too deep. The nails were rusted. She'll get infections-" She broke off, looking to a different side of the barn, where she and Fennel had their nests. "Fennel!" She yowled, and the black she-cat instantly was there. "Go get your twoleg. Now." As Fennel darted off, she motioned for the other cats to hide. "Go behind those haybales. He doesn't need to see you."

Juhi began to protest, "But-"

Goldfinch shut her down instantly. "She will die otherwise. He will bring her back when she's healed. He always does with other injured cats."

They group of cats hid. Even Snowflurry, dragged back by Clover.


Fennel did not hesitate when she ran to her twoleg. She did not question. She scratched at her twoleg's door, yowling until he opened it, screeching until he followed her to the barn.

Snowflurry blinked. "w...what about Maple?" she asked, staring longingly at the cat who had found her. "She'll be ok" Sunrise said. "come on" she said, nudging Clover and Snowflurry along...although her heart was racing. Would Maple make it? She wondered as a two-leg burst into the barn...and scooping up Maple. Sunrise wanted to call out to Maple, but she knew Juhi was....in a lot more panic than she was at the moment. When the two leg left with Maple, Sunrise rushed out. "Where's he taking her?" she asked...as Snowflurry's little eyes started to close. She managed to find a cat...she didn't know who it was, but it was a cat. She plopped down at the cats paws, and curled up, falling asleep almost instantly. Rocky stared in horror as the two leg took Maple. "She hates two-legs" he mumbled. "how she going to react...when she finds herself in a two-legs home?" he said, looking at Juhi...who only had worry flowing into her gaze.

Juhi tried to keep herself composed, she really did. For the kit, for Clover, for Goldfinch. But she could not. As the twoleg scooped up her friend, she let out a soft whimper. Snowflurry plopped down at Fennel's paws, curling up and falling asleep quickly. Juhi rose her gaze to meet Rocky's. "It's better she's angry in a twoleg medicine den than dead here." She said softly. Goldfinch was already snatching up more herbs, passing a small bundle to each cat. "Thyme." She'd explained, "It helps with shock." Juhi lapped up the herbs and sat down. Her chest wound ached. Clover seemed to be calming down rapidly, and Juhi wished she could do the same.

Once Clover got over the worst of her shock, she managed to look at the new she-cats. "Hello Goldfinch." She mewed, dipping her head at the familiar cat before introducing herself as Clover to the new cat. "And that's Juhi.." She continued, flicking her tail at the cat who had laid down, her eyes glazed as she stared at a wall. "... Sunrise. Rocky." She pointed her tail at each in turn. "And Snowflurry is sleeping at your paws already. Maple was injured. She finished. The unfamiliar cat introduced herself as Fennel.

"I'm staying at her barn for now." Goldfinch interjected, "And i'm heading back to my Mother next week."

"That's where we were going too." Juhi said, sounding tired.

"We can travel together, if you'd like." Goldfinch offered, "Your friend should be back by then. In a few days, at least."

Maple woke up...the next morning. She looked around. Hissing in fright when she saw a two leg. "woah...easy there" he said, rubbing her behind the ears. "you'll reopen your stiches, don't want to do that now do we?" he said, rubbing her behind the ears again. Maple blinked at him. Had he...helped her? She wondered. She looked down, and saw a white covered bandaged over her side. She blinked. Where was Juhi...and Snowflurry....and Clover? And everyone? She looked around, just as some random cat padded into the den through a door. Maple blinked at the cat. "where am I?" she asked, looking around with fear in her eyes. "Where's Juhi?" she asked.

Snowflurry woke up the next morning, beside Clover, who was sleeping soundly beside her. Snowflurry scurried over to her, and snuggled against her, her heart pounding as she remembered the night before...her ears flat.

Juhi didn't sleep. She only stared at the wall. When morning came, Goldfinch had looked at her once before bringing her a mouse and a few poppy seeds. She picked at the mouse before lapping up the poppy seeds, falling into an uninterrupted sleep.

Clover was fast asleep when she felt little Snowflurry snuggle against her. It effectively woke her up. She raised her head and nudged the kit closer to her stomach. Hopefully the kit would grow bigger. She was only five moons older, and Snowflurry was so, so tiny for her age. Goldfinch came by with a sparrow, and asked her to keep an eye on Juhi, who had just fallen asleep. "How long do you think it will be before Maple comes back?" She asked the older cat. Goldfinch had tilted her head to the side thoughtfully. "With the caliber of her injuries, probably two or three days. They'll want to make sure her wounds won't reopen before bringing her back."
