Storm Watcher's growl trailed off when the coyote looked up, directly at her. She glared at her, forgetting her parent's warnings against aggravating a predator. The coyote blinked, speaking in an odd, sharp accent, "Hi." It said, staring at her. Storm Watcher did not respond. She only glared. The coyote promptly stood and walked away, leaving the bones of the rabbit to rot on the ground. After the canine had left, she slowly crept out of the grasses, trying to make as little noise as possible when she crossed the stream. She sniffed at the bones sadly. Sure, she could go eat from the berry bush near her den, but she'd really wanted meat today.

Velvet lifted her muzzle into the air, and sniffed it. Another rabbit was hopping near her. Crouching, Velvet stalked towards it, and pounced, killing it with a bite to the neck. When she caught her prey, she stood up, with the rabbit in her jaws, before she turned and padded back to where she had last seen the fox. She dropped the fox where the bones were, and then turned, padding back to her own cave.

Caido stepped out of the grasses onto the banks of a satisfyingly medium sized stream, bending his legs to dip his muzzle to the rushing water and swiftly lapping it up, the refreshing liquid quenching his thirst and freshening his mouth. Licking his lips again he raised his head automatically, scanning his surroundings before sitting on the bank as the warm morning sun soaked into his coat. Soon it would be time to find shade, but for now... he wished for fish.

Storm Watcher let out a sigh, padding into the small boulder cave. She was tired. She'd rest before creeping back to her den. She scented the air again, surprised to smell the female coyote once again, along with the mingling smell of rabbit. She watched silently as the coyote dropped a fresh rabbit where she'd left only bones, the canine padding off and away. She pricked her ears up, confused. Did she stuff it with those purple berries- the ones that kill with only one or two? She sniffed again. No, the smell was rabbit alone. It wasn't worth the risk though, perhaps it was a trap. Storm Watcher scurried across the stream again, aiming for her den. She left the rabbit where the coyote had put it.

Velvet padding into her den, and lay down on her nest. Heaving a sigh and laying her head down for a little nap.

Caido shifted slightly in the sunlight. The first few minutes had felt comfortable... but now it was just HOT. He began panting slightly, his large ears flicking as a bug buzzed lazily around his head. Finally he could stand it no longer, and stood, stepping into the stream and wading in until it was up to his belly, giving a sigh of relief as the cool water flowed against his legs, pushing away the heat that had soaked into his coat. Now THAT felt a lot better. Besides, if he stayed still enough, he could probably catch a fish better that way too!

Storm Watcher plucked berries from the bush with practiced ease, gathering the ones she'd detached with her paws and eating them quickly. She pulled a thin branch with several of the bunches still attached down, yanking it off. She dragged it after her, back towards her den where she could eat in peace. She reached it rather quickly, navigating the bramble tunnels with characteristic grace. There were no other animals nearby, she observed, scenting the air. She was safe. For now.

Velvet woke up a little while later. The sun was shining brightly. Slowly, she padded out of her den and looked around. She found a nice rock, and jumped on it, circling until she lay down, letting the warm sun hit her cold coat.

Caido fixed his gaze on the water, experience making him able to remain stock still. Quite a few minutes passed, and once again the sun began to feel quite warm on his back and neck. But he remained patient, and was soon rewarded by a flash of scales under the rushing water. He waited until he got his target fully locked, then plunged his jaws down, his teeth piercing the slippery scales, and he emerged with a wriggling fish. Sloshing out of the stream, he shook himself, then brought his jaws crunching down. A few minutes later, the fish was a pleasant memory, and the red furred maned wolf was licking his lips once again. His belly was filled satisfactorily for the moment, and he began moving through the grasses once again, heading for the more bramble area of the forest, the most shady area, that could possibly have some berries to snack on at his leisure.

Storm Watcher placed the strand of berries down in a little hollowed out area of her cave. She'd eat the berries the following morning- but she was truly still hungry. Maybe she could find a small mouse nibbling on the berry seeds? Yes, that would do quite nicely to make up for her lost rabbit. She hopped out of her den, weaving through the bramble maze. The trees let very little light in here, creating a perfect space for a fox to live. Her tail bobbed as she trotted back towards her favorite berry bush, slowing as she neared it. She sniffed at the air, frowning. There hadn't been a mouse as she hoped, however, there was what smelled like a small songbird. It would suffice. She lowered into a crouch, tracking the tiny creature through the brush as she neared the berry bushes.

Velvet looked up as the sun warmed her pelt. She smiled, and lay on her belly, flicking her tail back and forth, while watching the clouds move.

Caido slowed as he reached the shade, shaking his pelt and looking around before heading for the closest bush, carefully laying beneath it and letting out a yawn and bringing a leg forward to scratch his neck before settling completely, laying his head down on his paws and beginning to doze slightly.

Storm Watcher tracked the songbird with practiced ease, her ears monitoring for any stray sounds, her mouth open slightly to allow the scent to flow over her tongue. Then she spotted it. The tiny bird hopped amongst briars and berries, picking at the seeds on the forest floor. Its yellow feathers shone in the sun. She lowered into her hunting position, stalking closer with even more caution. It was still snuffling amongst the seeds. It did not take much effort to leap upon it, the life draining from the tiny yellow body as the muffled snap of its neck echoed throughout the berry grove.

Velvet was now creeping through the low grasses near her den. Her ears were pricked forward and she scented the air for any sign of a predator. She looked around and once more saw the fox. Velvet pulled her lips back in the beginning of a snarl. She would fight this fox if she had to.

Caido flicked an ear backwards as the sound of a scuffling and dull snap echoed from somewhere deep in the thickets. A scent in that direction was all it took to relax him once again. No danger. Just that fox. Besides, even if it had been something of more severity, it was so deep in the brambles he wasn't about to risk getting bloodied just to check it out. He yawned again, then scented the air, simply for lack of something better to do, then stiffened slightly. Coyote. He growled low in his throat. That thing just couldn't learn it's lesson to keep away from his territory could it? Raising his head from his laying down position, he let out a deep roaring bark, feeling the power surge through him as he did so, and letting the echoes die away before barking once more, warningly. This was his place, he did not need it becoming infested with other predators kin to himself.
