As he leaves apples for Ember to eat, Tempest wasn't bothering to stick around to wait for her to finish eating. He understood completely, what it was like to be starving. Many wild horses in nature, especially in winter, knew what it was like to not have the necessary food sources. Eventually, when Ember shows signs of slowing down, he still leaves apples, but this time, they collect in the corner of the paddock. "Save some of those for later tonight. Space them out. You don't want to upset your stomach," He says, when he places the last apple on the ground. He could see that she had eaten quite a few of them, a sign of her tremendous hunger.

Ember looked up with a smile, her eyes growing brighter each time Tempest returned, as she felt a mild flicker of strength return to her weak limbs. She began eating them slower, taking the liberty to savor the taste, and soon a pile collected. She was honestly surprised to find that her stomach felt strangely full after not too long. It must have shrunken due to the lack of sustenance she was getting. She looked over at the pile of shining fruit, a soft smile coming to her face, and turning as he approached, placing another down. If she had to guess, he must have brought her an entire tree full! "Thank you... and yes, of course, I will" she said, her eyes and voice sincere with gratitude. "I just... I can never repay this, thank you... thank you for stopping and noticing" she said, thankful emotion in her voice.

"You're welcome, Ember. This should hopefully, help you get your strength back. Getting proper nutrition, should help with any injuries that you have. it's hard for the body to heal, when you aren't getting what you need. I'll stay with you tonight, to make sure that you have a good supply of food," Tempest says. Because he lived on his own, he could stay wherever he wanted. He wasn't like a fox or a coyote, where they had dens to stay in. He just usually found a grove somewhere, where he could sleep. He didn't have a shelter, he just had what nature provided. So, he could afford to stay here. This wasn't even his territory. He was a bachelor, without a herd. Once he did have a herd, then that would change. But until that time came, he could come and go, wherever and whenever he pleased.

Ember nodded in agreement, then her eyes widened slightly. "Oh Tempest, you can't do that!" she said in worry, her voice clearer than it had been in a long time, due to the sweet, moisturizing juice of the apple. "The Man" she said, glancing back towards the dark road and shuddering slightly at the idea of him returning. "If he finds you.." she said again, trailing off slightly, her mind conflicting within her. She wanted him to stay... she had never felt even a twinge of happiness the past few months until he had noticed her, and she realized that although a fence separated them, she felt a strange sensation, almost of safety, when he was nearby.

"I'll be careful. I've never been caught by a human before, and many have tried to catch me. The mustangs out here, are incredibly hard to catch. The times where horses get caught out here, are usually after they have established a herd. The bigger the herd, the easier it is to get caught in round ups. But when we're alone, it's much harder to get caught. I know this land easily, since this is where I grew up. This seems to be the most socialization, that you've ever received, and it would be cruel to take that away from you. I'm not afraid of that man," Tempest says. He knew that it was a risk, but this poor mare was suffering alone, and no horse should ever go through that.

Ember shifted uncertainly, but his good sense and firm words broke down her worries.. or most of them. She sighed and then nodded, a thankful warm smile suddenly lighting up her entire face. "Then I would like that... I would like that so much. And I don't expect him to notice you... he doesn't notice much" she said with a slight bitter note. He certainly didn't notice empty water buckets, or dirty stalls. She shifted slightly as a stronger wind brushed over her coat, flaring her nostrils to smell the scents it brought with it. "Is your river close?" she asked, almost feeling as though she could smell the tantalizing scent of rushing fresh water.

Looking away from the road, Tempest returns his gaze and attention back to Ember. "Yes. It's just over that hill, where I come from. The river feeds into a very large lake, which is surrounded by thick grasses, bushes, and there are many different animals out there. The water is always clear, but it isn't the deepest river. There are much larger and deeper rivers, but this one has some of the cleanest water, since it runs down from the tall mountains. If I could get you out of here, I would show it to you. You could take a drink from the river, clean up a bit, and just have a happy life," He says.

Ember sighed, closing her eyes slightly, ears pricked as she listened, imagining it. "oh it sounds like a dream" she said wistfully, slowly opening her eyes and shaking her mane. "I wish..." she paused, then finished "I wish I COULD see it one day." but her voice was one of sadness, not hopefulness. Yes she now had food, and someone to talk to... but in just one day her entire life would change... again. And she would most likely never see Tempest again. So what was the point even? Suddenly she swished her tail violently, as if a fly was bothering her, although it was just her thoughts. With a firmness born of desperation she pushed away the dark thoughts. No. she would enjoy the time she had, she would savor it, and engrave it in her memories to look back on as more golden old wonderful days in the coming trials.

Straightening up, Tempest lets his head and neck drape over the fence, so that he could get a look at Ember. "Come over here," He says, his tone softer and gentler than usual. Most of the time, he was very reserved, not very talkative. But something about this mare, maybe it was the situation that she was in, was bringing out a tender side to him. He wasn't like his father, who just saw mares as a means of keeping the bloodline going. He had other feelings about that. But just the sight Ember like this, so desolate, with seemingly no hopes for the future, he figured that she could use some comfort. When she comes over to the fence, he lets his nose touch her shoulder, seemingly to offer her a little bit of comfort. "I would get you out of here, if I could," He says.

Ember blinked slightly, uncertainly, then moved forward. She knew she trusted Tempest. He had helped her so much, he had been the only one to help her. And she couldn't afford to not trust him. For if he wasn't trustworthy... who was? She let out a shaky sigh as he briefly brushed his nose against her coat, his touch so comfortingly. Her eyes shone slightly and she swallowed, dropping her head slightly, still feeling his breath against her coat. "That knowledge means more than you could imagine" she said quietly, truthfully. He wanted to help her, and even though he knew he couldn't, he still wanted to rescue her. Who had ever wanted to rescue her?

Noticing that there were some patches of caked on mud on her coat, Tempest raises his head up a bit, and begins to groom what parts of her coat, that he could reach. He knew that he had to be fast. It was getting late, and that human was bound to come back soon. Would the human leave Ember out in the paddock, or would he force her back into that forsaken barn. he didn't want her to go in there, with no place to move around, complete darkness, and complete isolation. He wasn't sure if he could fight this human, since there were humans, who were able to break horses. "Keep an eye out for that human. Let me clean you up a little bit," He says, as he gently pulls bits of caked on mud, dropping them down onto the ground.

Ember started slightly in surprise as she felt his teeth on her coat, then relaxed. He was.... what was that word? She knew it... she had known it once... She frowned to herself in thought. Grooming! she suddenly remembered. He was grooming her. She let out another sigh, stepping closer and relaxing as she felt the horribly uncomfortable mud clumps falling from her coat. At his words she lifted her head again, gluing her eyes to the road, then turning to look at him slightly. "Tempest... really... thank you. I..I don't know what would have happened to me today if you hadn't come. You've done so much for me, many things I had forgotten existed." she said softly, gratitude filling her so much that she felt as though there were a huge lump in her throat.

Pausing from what he was doing, Tempest nods to her, taking in the fact, that this was something that she hadn't experienced for a long time. "It's no big deal. I'm glad that I was able to help you out. This is something that you needed, and I will find a way to help you get out. If you think that your next destination is as bad as you think it is, then I won't let that happen to you. He's not going to take you anywhere. I'll get you out," He says. He knew that this was the worst possible outcome for a horse, so if he could help her break free and come to the wild, then that was what he was going to do. She needed to be able to live her life, the way that she wanted, without being hurt, starved, or mistreated.

Ember smiled softly, but she was still so amazed that he would actually do this for her. At his next words, her eyes widened and she looked fully into his eyes. "You would... you would really do that for me? You would get me out of here? You think you can?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly with fearful hope. She was almost scared to hope... scared that if she let herself believe him, she would only get broken even more.

Looking over at Ember, meeting her gaze, Tempest's eyes were now blazing with determination. "I will get you out. There are usually bound to be openings that I can use. I'm not the first stallion, who has broken another horse out of man's grasp. There is a friend that I have out here, who has done something similar. The mare in question, while she didn't live in a place like this, she certainly was not happy. He broke her out of there, and she has flourished. They now live in a small herd together. I'm sure, that once I do get you out, you'll likely see them around," He says.
