Ember's heart leapt at his determination, and her eyes gleamed with hope as he spoke of her getting out as if it were a sure thing. She could almost believe it! "Tempest... I can't ask you to risk yourself... but thank you. Thank you. you have given me hope. I... I've dreamt about escaping... but I never dared dream far enough to really imagine it. But if you believe you can... then I will believe it too." she said, sudden strength flaring like a bright torch in her eyes, her entire face changed as she raised her head, excitement and energy surging through her suddenly. Escape. Freedom. FREEDOM. Could it really be that close?

Snorting a bit, Tempest lashes his tail around, feeling that same determination coursing through him. "I'll find a way to do it. You deserve a life that is much better than this. You deserve fresh food, clean water, companionship of other horses, and just room to be free," He says. He keeps his ears on alert, in the event that the human came back. He knew without a doubt, that he would be sticking around. He wasn't going to go too far, since Ember had mentioned that she was going to be taken away in the morning. But he would be sure to stay close, so that he would be able to help get her out. He wasn't going to give her false hope, since that was a cruel thing to do.

Ember's eyes sparked vibrantly with new life, a new reason to live. "I cannot believe how lucky I am that you came by, otherwise" she shook her head wordlessly. Otherwise, she would be stuck in her broken state. Now though, so much had changed in just a few hours! She could think of a future, she could plan an escape! Except the Man... he was the only problem. She suddenly gave a slight frown, but it was more of a "thinking of a problem to be fixed" frown, than a despairing one. "He will be back though... and he always puts me inside" she said, flattening her ears at the thought. "And then he can just back his trailer into the barn, and put me in from there" she added, her tail lashing slightly at the thought. That dingy rusty old trailer... she hated it as much as she did the barn.

Flattening his ears, Tempest snorts a little bit. "I'll think of something. I won't let him take you away," He says. He knew that it would take some time to figure out. But if he had to follow the metal beast, to keep her from getting too far away, then that was what he would do. "Humans are strong, but I can figure something out. Those beasts that they ride in, can only go so far. They're loud and they stink, so it'll be easy to keep an eye on," He says. He looks over at the road, knowing that when the human came back, he would know. The beast had two very bright, glowing eyes, that never seemed to blink. "Either find a place for those apples, or eat them. That human might not be happy that they're there," He says.

Ember sighed, then nodded "I know you won't" she said, looking at him trustingly. She did. She trusted him. The realization mildly shocked her. She hadn't trusted anyone in months. As he spoke again, she nodded, accepting that, and knowing she'd just have to hope and trust that Tempest would be able to do make something work. Anything. At his next words she glanced at the apples, nodding. "I think I'll eat them, I do not think i'll be coming back out when he takes me in" she said quietly, moving to the apples and beginning to eat them swiftly, although taking the time still to savor them. Apples... how had she forgotten of their existence? After a few apples, her belly felt adequately full, but she kept eating, knowing that she wouldn't be fed tomorrow, at least nothing she would be willing to eat. She glanced up to the stallion again as she ate, noticing his eyes on the road. "He will be back soon" she voiced, but suddenly managed a slight smile "This may sound strange... but I am somehow looking forward to tomorrow. I... I have hope that this will work. Whatever you plan. I feel that whatever you plan will always work" she said suddenly.

While Ember eats, Tempest looks out at the road, knowing that one of them needed to keep an eye open for that large, metal beast. He knew that he would be sticking very close to this place, without being seen. He wouldn't be able to stop her from getting put into the trailer, but he would be following close behind, to search for the opening that would help him get her out. He wasn't exactly sure how he would do this, since no other horse had ever broken another out of a metal beast before. He absolutely hated the smell of those things, but this would hopefully, be the last time that he would ever encounter them. He occasionally glances over at Ember, to make sure that she was eating the apples, though he knew that she would. She didn't seem like the type of horse to waste anything, especially after what she had gone through. It was a new moon tonight, so with no moonlight everywhere, the land looked open and vulnerable, and a bit eerie, with the only sounds coming from crickets and the occasional owl.

Ember ate swiftly, feeling safe as the stallion kept watch, until she suddenly lifted her head, ears twitching, fear flashing automatically through her. "Tempest" she said in a fearful whisper, moving to the fence line and looking towards the road as a slow almost imperceptible glow began to grow. "He's here" she said quietly. She had known he had to come back. But she had hopelessly wished he wouldn't. He could force her inside... force her away from Tempest's protection. And into the trailer... and far away. What if the auction was near more people, then how would Tempest reach her? How would he dare? she hadn't thought of thought. She shivered slightly as the cold night wind brushed over her coat, chilling her slightly as the bright light grew more apparent.

Flicking his ears towards the road, Tempest looks back at Ember, trenching his neck out, to touch her shoulder. "It will be alright, Ember. I won't leave this place. I'll be out of sight, so he can't see me, but I will be here in the morning. I promise," He says. He wasn't about to leave Ember, when he had spent so much time in getting to know her. He didn't know anything about her past, or where she came from. But no horse deserved to be left like this, getting tossed around from home to home, not knowing if the human there, was good or not.

Ember turned at his touch, letting out a breath as she tried to relax, and nodding at his convincing words. "Thank you... I believe you.. I know I will see you again." she said firmly, trustingly, just as the truck's headlights flashed across the ranch and the pen, almost blinding her before it turned into the drive, sputtering and clanking. A moment later the door slammed, then the house door slammed, and then a moment later it slammed again, and she could hear his stomping foosteps coming closer. He was coming for her. Her legs locked slightly in her natural response as she waited... hearing him come ever nearer, with the frightening knowledge that he was coming for her.

Flattening his ears against his head, Tempest ducks out of sight, out of the lights of the metal beast. He didn't know what it was, he just called it a beast, since it swallowed horses whole. He wanted nothing more than to attack this human, to help free Ember. But he knew that there was a time for it and doing it at night......was not wise. He had seen the way that she had locked up.....a very automatic response. It was the type of response that no one should resort to. But for her, it was instinctive, almost like when a deer got caught in the headlights of a metal beast. Stiff, scared, and unable to move. He narrows his eyes, gnashing his teeth in anger.

Ember shook herself suddenly, violently, trying to snap herself out of her fear. She didn't need to be afraid. Just one more night, and then freedom. The footsteps grew louder, and then she could see Him, walking towards her with the long lead rope, swinging in slightly. Her eyes widened and she automatically moved to the far end of the pen, remembering the whipping she'd received with that hated rope earlier. "GIT oveer hear mare" the man yelled, opening the creaky gate and swiftly shutting and locking it behind him before turning to face her. "Not ginna come eh?" he growled, tapping the lead rope against his leg experimentally. She gulped, pressing against the fence as he began moving towards her. She didn't want him to touch her again. She didn't want to have to obey him ever ever again. As he drew nearer, she began moving along the fence line, limping away from him slowly. He snorted, then his gaze darkened. "Ye LAMED yerself agin mare?" he yelled, throwing a hand in the air in disgust, and she flinched at the movement before moving away faster. "Now I'm ginn have ter talk ye up even moare" he grumbled to himself, then began moving towards her with a swift purposeful stride. "I'm done with this heare teag game" he growled. Ember turned to look at him, and ran into the edge of the pen, stopping and swiftly trying to turn to face him. In her mind she knew that she should just submit, that it would be faster, painless... but her fear and the fire for freedom Tempest and kindled in her told her otherwise. She snorted at him, shaking her mane and sticking her head in the air as high as she could get it, making herself stiff. "whit's this gaem?" he asked in annoyance as he reached her, trying to pull her head down, but even weak, she could still use her muscles against him. "Doggone it mare, quit thees!" he yelled at her, suddenly flailing the rope, which smacked against her neck with a loud pop, and she flinched in pain, jerking her head down slightly, and his grimy long fingers snagged the halter. "Gotcha naw mare" he said, jerking her head again for good measure before clipping the lead onto the halter and giving another pull. "Cime along, teem ta getcha inside ter yer niiice waarm stawl" he said then cackled slightly at the thought. She had began moving forwards with a sigh of defeat, but at his cackle she balked again, pulling hard against the rope and causing him to stumble slightly. This time, he rounded on her with anger. "ENOUGH MARE! GIT INSIDE!" He yelled, slashing the lead rope against her back hard. She let out a whinny as it hit a not so old scar, bolting forward a few steps until he got ahead of her, and she finally drooped her head, letting herself be lead inside. She couldn't fight him, not in her state. But she knew who could... who would. Just before they reached the yawning cold darkness of the barn, she whipped her head around, the lead rope slipping from his grasp slightly, and she let out a long whinny to Tempest. She had to see that stallion again... he was her only hope. "WHIT'S WRANG WITH YE T'DAY MARE?!" The man yelled, jerking on her halter and lifting the rope warningly. Not wanting to feel another welt made by man, she moved forwards with a tired sigh. Tomorrow... tomorrow she would be safe. Tomorrow. Repeating this promise to herself calmed her thoughts as she followed the Man.

Ducking out of sight, Tempest's ears flatten completely against his head. He wanted nothing more than to charge out there and get that human away from Ember. He was incredibly furious, with a fire burning so brightly, it could've caught the barn on fire. When Ember disappears into the barn, he starts to trot around the large structure. If he could find a hole, then perhaps he could stay by the spot, where Ember was. Seeing the way that the rope was cracked against her back, had filled him with rage. She was a sweet, innocent horse, and she was being treated so terribly. It was a huge concern to him, and he knew that if he didn't get her out, wherever she ended up afterwards....would likely be even worse. "Ember?" He asks, as he looks along the walls. He speaks loudly enough, that she would be able to hear him, while hopefully, not being so loud, that that poor excuse for a human would hear him. He absolutely hated humans.....there was nothing good about them. There were no redeeming qualities about them. He wanted nothing more than to kick the walls of this barn down, to be able to get inside, and help her out. But he knew that the risks of capture and injury were high, and it would be terrible, if he experienced that. "Ember? If you can hear me, tell me where you are," He says, looking for any signs of weak wood, or holes that could offer her a chance to look outside, and possibly see him. He would stay here with her, if she could look outside. If not, he would find a place to be, so that when she was led out, he would be able to respond immediately.

Ember remained silent, head down as she followed the man, limping slightly into the old barn, the smell of dirty hay and shavings filling her nostrils, a hard disgusting contrast from the fresh scents of the wilds. "Git inside" the man said, slapping her hindquarters with his hand as he undid her halter. She tucked her tail and darted limpingly inside until she reached the back wall, pressing against the boards to stay far from his cruel reach. In disgust he spat into her stall "Money wastin mare, I cain't wait ter getcha off mah hands" he growled, then turned and, after hanging up the halter, he stomped outside, slamming the barn door shut and locking it. Ember let out a shuddering sigh, automatically moving her muzzle to the bucket hanging at the stall wall, then stopping. There was no water in it. It was still dry. She sighed again, shifting on her hooves in the muck of the stall, and wishing... so wishing that she could have stayed outside... with Tempest. For in the barn she felt so cut off from him, so alone and helpless. She hated feeling that way, but it was the truth. Suddenly a sound caught her ears and they flicked listlessly, and then she lifted her head as she heard it again. Tempest? Moving back to the wall of the stall, she pressed her muzzle against a small opening, made by a broken board. "Tempest?" She whinnied softly, questioningly, her voice telling of her fear and pain that was once again trying to overwhelm her. She was so used to letting it to do so to block out the cruelties of the humans, that trying to battle against it almost felt unnatural.

Flicking his ears, Tempest turns his head, at the sound of Ember's voice. Looking carefully at the wall of the barn, he could see a muzzle trying to fit outside of a hole. It didn't look very big at all, but she was able to get her muzzle to fit. Trotting over to the hole, he raises his head just a little, which he didn't have to do, excessively. He lets his muzzle brush against hers, to let her know that he was there. "I'm right here. I'll stay right here with you. If you need apples in there, let me, know, and I'll bring you some," He says. The smells coming from the hole, were very dry and musty. It really didn't seem pleasant at all, and he wondered just how much ventilation was in that barn. "How much room do you have to move in there?" He asks. He could see through walls, so there was no way of knowing how much she was able to see. He couldn't get her out, there was no way that he could kick these walls down. But he could at least keep her company, since there was no way that she would be able to get out, and he couldn't get inside to help her. The barn looked decrepit, with no signs of being properly tended to. The paint had completely chipped off, the wood was frazzled and frayed in many places, and it looked like termites were feeding on the wood.

Ember's heart leapt as she saw a dark shadow with a familiar scent move in front of the gap, and then she felt him brush against her muzzle. "Oh Tempest" she said, almost tearful relief in her voice. "I don't think I should eat any more right now, my stomach is feeling a little strange" she admitted. It wasn't a terrible strange... it just felt so full it felt so unusual. At his question, she sighed, moving her head to glance around her stall, then back to him. "If I turn sideways, my tail and my nose can brush the edges" she answered quietly, as it was the truth. She was used to small stalls now, but even she knew this one was unreasonably small. Then she sighed again, breathing deeply to assure herself that he was there. "You'll stay all night?" she asked hesitantly.
