"I will. I won't leave you by yourself. Give your stomach some time to rest. I'll bring you an apple at dawn, provided that you aren't led out," Tempest says. If that was the case, then he would stay here, and make sure that he was following close behind the large, metal beast. "Are you okay?" He asks. He had seen the way that her body had been struck by that rope, and seeing that, had filled him with incredible anger. He could tell that she couldn't see him, but she could smell him, and could definitely hear him. There wasn't anything else that he could really do right now, short of trying to bust down the wall. But that was impossible, and that would likely hurt him more than anything else.

Ember gave a relieved sigh at his affirmation, "Thank you" she said, wondering at the security she felt in his words. Being promised food... knowing she would eat in the morning. She hadn't been sure of that in too long. At his quiet question she paused for a moment, almost unknowning of what he was specifically referring to, which just showed how horribly normal it was for her to feel rope striking her. Realizing, she sighed, but this one with a sad note. "I will be" she answered softly, not knowing what else to say. The welt on her back was stinging from where the rope had landed on it, but she knew, sadly from experience, that if she ignored it, it would fade.

Twitching his ears a bit, Tempest adjusts his position, so that he was closer to the barn wall, while keeping his muzzle close to Ember's. "I'll be here, Ember. Don't worry. If you need to sleep, I'll still be here. I'm sorry that that human treats you so horribly. I promise that I will get you out of here. That human isn't going to take you anywhere. He isn't going to get any more out of you," He says. He knew that humans traded horses for something, though he wasn't sure what that was. They always talked about money, but he didn't know what that was. Whatever it was, that human was not going to get something out of the pain that he caused Ember.

Ember pressed her muzzle closer to the gap, letting out another heavy sigh at his words. "I believe you Tempest... thank you. Thank you for seeing me today." she said, a tired note to her thankful voice as she leaned against the rough, rotting wooden planks, feeling peace in the knowledge that Tempest was just on the other side. Tomorrow her life would change, and for the better this time. Tempest had promised, and she trusted him, she trusted him an unbelievable amount. She could not remember ever trusting anyone this much, besides her own mother. Was it just because he was the only horse whom she had seen or spoken to in so long? But she knew it was not just a blind trust, he had shown by many actions that he cared, and that it was not just a whim of his to help her escape, or something nice he was saying to make her feel better. He spoke with such determination and fire about it, she knew he would not rest easy until he could follow through with his promise. "When we reach the wild again... you have to let me find a way to repay you" she said suddenly, although she yawned slightly in exhaustion after speaking, her voice trailing off tiredly.

"You don't need to repay me, Ember. Just getting you out, is enough for me. Now go ahead and get some sleep. You're going to need energy and strength," Tempest says. He knew that he needed sleep, but right now, he was feeling a bit too antsy to sleep. He needed to follow through with his promise to Ember, to get her out. If he fumbled, then she would be taken away and he wouldn't be able to find her again. Of course, that wouldn't stop him from trying, but it would be a lot harder. "When I get you out of here, the first place that I'm going to take you, is the lake. The water there is clear and fresh. You can wash off, and there is enough space, that you can find somewhere to drink. You need fresh water," He says. He leans a bit against the side of the barn. unsure if she could feel the weight on the other side. He could hear the exhaustion in her voice, but he could also hear the gratitude, and it seemed like this was the first time, that she was able to trust someone. It had to feel horribly isolating, to be the only horse here, with no one to talk to.

Ember gave a soft smile and a nod "Thank you Tempest... thank you" she said, then sighed as she imagined the lake. "I would love that... I can almost imagine it" she gave another tired wistful sigh, leaning heavily against the wall, and then feeling the wall press back against her, and realized that was Tempest on the other side. Her head drooped as her eyes began fluttering, her breath slowing, although she kept her muzzle close to the gap in the wall, mostly the only fresh air available, as well as it brought the comforting strong scent of Tempest. He would be there when she awoke... she knew it. "Good night Tempest" she said, her voice quiet in exhaustion as she truly began falling asleep, hardly even able to register her own amazement at the speed at which she could allow herself to sleep, now that she had hope for the next day, a reason to rest and have energy.

"You don't have to thank me, Ember. Go ahead and sleep. Feel free to dream about all of the places that you'll get to see. There is so much to explore," Tempest says, figuring that he could help lull her into a comfortable sleep, by talking in a low and hushed tone, while talking about the things that she would get to experience. It would be a long recovery for her, since she needed a lot of water, she needed to gain weight, and of course, there was the question of her leg. She had clearly been limping. But it was hard to tell, if it was from a recurring injury, or if it just had something to do with the conditions that she was subjected to. "Good night, Ember. Sleep well tonight," He says. He stays as close to the wall as he could. That way, when that human came to collect her, he would be ready to respond as quickly as possible. Tomorrow was going to be a rough and stressful day but getting Ember away from humans....was going to be well worth it.

Ember gave a tired sigh as she listened to his rhythmic warm voice, painting pictures of beautiful mountains, and vibrant fields of flowers, and so much more. Sleepily she gave a slight smile. I remember when I used to love watching the sunset over the landscapes... I remember.... and then she remembered no more, falling into a deep sleep, for the first time in a long time with a smile on her face as she did so.

The next morning, Tempest glances away from the horizon, back over to the barn. The air still had the sharp, morning chill to it, but he knew that it would warm up soon. Looking at the barn, he listens, waiting for Ember to wake up. He hadn't left at all, and he was a bit hesitant to leave. If Ember was still here, alone, there were risks, of the human coming here, while he was away, to collect the mare, and take her away. Perhaps it would be best to either get her some fresh grass, or wait until he freed her, so that she would have some good food and water. he couldn't hear her yet, so he had a feeling that she was asleep, still. As such, he would stay right where he was, so that when the time came to leave, he would be able to stay close to the metal beast. He wasn't about to let her get taken away, not after befriending her.

Ember slept soundly, miraculously without nightmares, without any dreams, all night. The next morning she awoke with a sudden start, and a strange unfamiliar excited feeling. Why was she excited? She was confused with herself... until her mind cleared and she remembered. Tempest, Escape... today! She lifted her head and shook out her mane before pressing her muzzle against the opening in the barn wall... wondering if Tempest had really stayed. "Tempest?" She asked in a hopeful voice... just as she heard the door of the house suddenly slam open, making her start at how hard she had been listening hopefully for the stallion's voice. But if he WAS there... would the Man see him? Panic filled her slightly. He couldn't see him! It would all be over if he saw him!

Hearing Ember's voice, Tempest turns his head away from the small, worn-down house, to put his muzzle near the hole in the wall. "I'm still here, Ember. I haven't left," He says. He could tell that she was both excited and nervous. He was planning to help her escape today. But he knew that she was nervous, because the human, who owned her, clearly held a lot of power, and that was a very intimidating thing. He had made sure to stay out of sight, and he would be as quiet as possible. If it did come down to it, he would lead this human away from the ranch, maybe get him lost, and then come back for Ember. But for now, he was just focusing on how he would get her out, so that she could be free to live a normal, happy, healthy life.

Ember gave a relieved sigh "Thank you for staying" she said simply, then snorted strongly as she heard the Man moving about, hearing the clang of the trailer, the roar of his truck as it started, and another clang. Idly in her mind, she recognized that it meant the truck and trailer were now attatched. Soon... she would be in it. Her heart began thumping in a mixture of terror and adrenaline, her legs slightly weakening at the thought of entering that trailer. Maybe food would help her feel more ready for this. "Tempest... if.. if that offer of an apple still holds, when he goes back inside... do you think you could get me one?" she asked hesitantly. She knew the man would go back inside... or some reason the humans always did, they were constantly forgetful creatures.

Looking over at the hole, Tempest nods, "I w bring you a couple of apples to eat. But I would suggest that you eat them slowly. I can tell that you're stressed. The faster you eat, when you're stressed, the more likely you'll cause a bad stomachache. When you think it's a good time for me to leave, to get you some food, let me know," He says. He knew that when that happened, he would need to be fast, so just one or two apples would be able that he would get. he couldn't afford to take too long, or he risked the chance of losing her forever. He could practically smell the anxiety and fear from inside the barn, which gave away clear signs, about how Ember was feeling.

Ember gave a sigh of relief. Good. At least she'd have food. Maybe for the last time. What if this didn't work? How was Tempest going to break her out of a trailer of all places? Worries and doubts began to assail her, but she forced them away at his words, nodding and taking a deep breath before letting it out slowly, trying to calm herself down. "You're right, I will be careful to eat slowly" she agreed, then pricked her ears to listen carefully for the Man. The truck suddenly turned off, and she could hear the door slam. Some metal clanking sounds echoed around, and then she heard his steps on the stairs, and then the slam of the house door. She waited a few moments, then pressed her nose to the hole. "Now, he's inside" she said quickly, and then almost called him back in worry. What if she was wrong? What if he came outside, and he saw Tempest, all because she'd wanted an apple? She shifted worriedly in her small stall.

"It'll be okay, Ember. Don't worry about me, I'll take care of this," Tempest says. He takes a moment to listen and smell for the human, since he had a very distinct scent. When he catches nothing, he takes off, as fast as he could, until he reached the grove of apple trees. Knowing that he had very little time to spare, he rears up, knocking a very delicate branch off, which, thankfully, had three apples on it. If she could eat them, before the human came back, she would have some energy to help her escape. He would not let her down. Picking up the branch, he runs back to the stable, carrying his precious cargo, until he reached the barn again. Lowering the branch to the ground, he plucks one apple from the branch, before taking it into his teeth, bringing it up to the hole, so that Ember would be able to take it from him.
