“You are right,” he said finally, the price of having a close friend is high, for when you lose them, you lose a part of yourself as well. Lockian shook his mind and tried to turn it to brighter things, “training that red stallion will certainly be interesting work,” he commented. He shook his head with a smile rubbing his head back and forth against the arm of the chair, “a lot of work,” he finished as an after thought.

"Can't say emotions are my strong suit... I barely seem to know what to do with my own these days. But if you want to talk about it, I can at the very least lend an ear." Cass says. She wasn't sure, but maybe getting it off his chest would help a bit. The offer could be put out either way, but she wasn't going to force or push him to talk. The choice would ultimately be his at the end of the day. "Definitely will be a lot of work, but likely work worth doing. I think he has it in him to be a great horse. He just hasn't been given the chance he needs to show it yet" she says.

Lockian smiled as he stared into the fire, “thank you, I appreciate that a lot,” he responded, he felt quite privileged to know someone who cared and thought about his feelings it eased his pain a lot. “It will definitely be worth it in the end,” he said, “but we cannot get ahead of ourselves, you haven’t even asked the lord Addaway if he will sell the horse to you.”

"You really don't have to thank me. Like I said, I don't know that I'll be of much help beyond simply letting you get it off your chest." Cass says. Emotions could be quite confusing. Sometimes they just didn't seem to make any sense. She barely knew what she was doing with her own. But hopefully simply having someone willing to listen would be of some help at the very least. "True... I'll have to see how much gold I've got left. Hopefully it'll be enough to put a good offer down. He's a fine horse and I'm sure Lord Addaway would want his gold's worth if he's going to part with that stallion" she says.

“We’ll start work soon, so hopefully our money pockets get heavy again,” not that Lockian ever really had a lot of money to speak of but at the moment he probably had the least amount of money put by ever since a while, needless to say, he was lucky that he hadn’t had to pay for the last meal he had eaten. Lockian stood and poured himself some more cider before settling back down in his chair.

"Hopefully... seems like we should be paid well." Cass says, taking another sip of her cider. "And it seems like room and board are covered, as well as food. So we won't have to worry about that either" she says. There was a lot to take in, but at least they didn't have to worry about procuring food or figuring out a place to stay. That was a few less things to worry about at least, some weight off their shoulders. "By the by... this 'king of the undertow' you mentioned when we first met, what or who is that? With all the tension in the air, I've been wondering" she says.

Quite true,” Lockian responded, he was about to take another sip but started when at her next question. He had forgotten for a moment her memory loss and had thought it strange that she had never heard of the horrid watery monster that took its domain in the seas, “tis some sea creature of sort,” he began, thinking out his answer, “it is huge, and lurks in the dark watery depths of the sea, as a past time it sinks any ship that it can find, my father’s included,” he added bitterly. “I can’t say as to what it looks like, the only thing surviving sailors agree on is its terrible teeth and general unheard of size. Why do you ask may I ask?”

"Curiosity I suppose. With all the tension in the air seemingly everywhere we've been, and no memory of why things are the way they are, I've got to piece it all together somehow. Though I don't see how a behemoth of a sea creature could cause tension elsewhere in the kingdom, so maybe the two are unrelated. Or maybe... it's somehow a symptom of a greater sickness plaguing the kingdom. After all, giant monsters rarely just show up one day without an outside force acting upon them." Cass says. There were sea creatures that she knew of that were inherently evil, most wouldn't attack without being provoked. It didn't make sense why one would just start terrorizing a town off it's own accord. Though perhaps she was getting ahead of herself.

Well I wasn’t always this way,” Lockian said, “hold on. Do you mean a sort of mind control? Why would a person take over the mind of a sea beast and sink ships with it,” this theory did not make much sense to Lockian but perhaps there was something behind the scenes that he didn’t perceive at the moment. “Could it be one person or a group,” he asked himself quietly contemplating on the subject, this whole thing interested him greatly and gave him something new to think about.

"Perhaps... I can't say for sure. I was thinking more along the lines of control through other means, fear for example. You scare a creature enough and it might do your bidding for the fear of being hurt. Or if this creature was raised from a young age, then it might be loyal enough to do a person's bidding. Though I suppose we shouldn't discount mind control completely, stranger things have happened." Cass says, brushing a lock off her hair out of her face.

Lockian laughed, ''yes that would make a lot more sense. I wonder what the thing actually is. It may have been bred to be that huge,'' he mused, he was just throwing ideas and conspiracies out. His mind continued wondering, ''perhaps someday we will even come across the fellow, I would say it would be interesting to see him had not the wish bring danger upon others,'' he finished rubbing his chin, ''but a problem still remains, why would someone want to train or use a sea monster to hurt others?''

"There are many reasons why one might do that. Power for example. If they can control a sea monster, they can take over major ports. Taking over major ports could give them the foothold to try and overthrow a monarchy. Without safe passage through ports, it can be incredibly difficult to move goods from city to city, thus impacting the economy. It would set up the perfect storm for this person or people to step in and appear as a savior to the people. Of course, it could be something else entirely." Cass says.

''Hmm that is very true, conquering ports and tacking over trade routes is generally the best path to take when trying to take over a country,'' he responded, ''do you think he has a mobile army someplace to back himself up when he shows himself, this is all hypothetical of course,'' Lockian added quickly, ''How far would you say the actually king lives from stormhaven?''

"I don't know, it's entirely possible. If they could find enough like-minded people to form an army. Or pay for an army of sell-swords." Cass says pausing. "I'm really not sure. I would imagine the king probably lives in the capitol city, but I cannot recall where that is." She says.

Lockian shrugged, ''that is true.'' After drinking down the last of his cider he leaned back with his hands behind his head whilst resting his eyes for a few moments. ''I would assume that this fellow would head for the king first but perhaps he is looking to conquer individual fiefs first and gain a larger following behind himself,'' he laughed quietly to himself, ''you know, we dont even know that this is what is actually behind this, it may just be some crazed beast for all we know.''
