"Combat is always more complicated than it looks, no matter your choice of weapon. There will undoubtedly always be more to learn for any soldier, no matter their rank. But I have no doubt that you'll do well." Cass says.

Lockian nodded, he appreciated the encouragement, ''that is my hope,'' he responded. He walked back to the fire and seated himself in the other armchair, ''by the way, who watches Sylvia, I believe that is what he name was, when you are off duty?''

"I can't say for sure... probably varies depending on who else is available. I would imagine another senior soldier. Or a family member when possible." Cass says, running a hand through her short black hair.

Lockian leaned back, “so she literally has someone watching her at every moment day and night,” he asked incredulously, “ai no wonder she acts so immature, she never has a chance to find things out for herself.” This was Lockian’s opinion on subject considering his own childhood and the relative freedom he had experienced.

"She certainly seems but a child... little I can do about it though. I'm not her mother, so it's not my place to make decisions on how much guidance she does or does not need. Hopefully eventually her parents will let up a bit though. She's not going to learn how to be an adult if she isn't given the space to make mistakes and learn from them." Cass says. She had a full decade on the lord's daughter, but even with that discrepancy in age, the younger woman still seemed very young for her age. She was a grown woman legally, but one would never know it based on her behavior. Working with children definitely wasn't her strong suit and at times it could be a bit grating to deal with the younger woman's childish antics, but it was a well paying job at least.

Lockian shrugged, “yes that is true,” he said, though honestly he felt bad for the young and over-protected woman, at this rate he didn’t think she would ever be ready for the real world, it’s not like her parents would always be around to guide her. He stared forward into the fire, it wasn’t his problem and he had literally nothing to do with her nor her life.

"Only time will tell I suppose. No sense in dwelling on what we can't change. There are enough problems in this world without expending energy on something we don't have any business in." Cass says, rising to her feet. If something didn't change though, eventually Sylvia would be left on her own. Her parents wouldn't be around forever after all. But only her parents could make the decision to let up and allow her to learn the ins and outs of the world. At least she was lucky enough to have them in her life... that was more than some had. So she at least had a leg up in that sense. And she'd still have some people to look out for her outside of her parents as well.

“Aye,” Lockian answered, “those are my thoughts exactly.” After a while he spoke again, “what do you think we should do for supper tonight? I would assume they would have a mess hall somewhere around here.” They could eat their provisions again but there were slim choices there, considering that they had only purchased enough for the journey.

"Should probably get supper. There probably is a mess hall. Or if you want to head into town we could check out a tavern or pub." Cass says. They didn't have much left for provisions, but they could probably make that work too.

Lockian stood, “going out sounds like a good idea, we haven’t done that in a while.” He took up his jerkin and pulled it on, he checked his pocket book, there was enough in there for a few more meals, would have been a lot more had he not spent all those coins on the horse, but it was money spent well… hopefully.

"Don't worry about paying. I've got it. I'm sure saving that horse must have caught a pretty copper." Cass says, seeing him checking his pocketbook. A meal in a tavern wouldn't be too costly for two people.

Lockian shook his head, ''it's fine, I have enough,'' he said. He went to the door and opened it for her, ''hopefully we make good time and get there before it gets dark,'' he said glancing out the window from his post at the door.

"We should, but either way we'll be walking in the dark on the way back. Shouldn't run into any trouble though. And if we do, we're armed." Cass says, stepping through the door and off to the side to make room for him. It was bound to be chilly outside. But that wouldn't be a big deal.

“That is true,” Lockian answered following her out into the hall, he wasn’t afraid of getting attacked, he knew he could hold his own in a battle but it was finding their way there that he hoped they would manage alright. The castle was already settling down and many of the servants were now off-duty and had gone to their rooms and homes leaving the castle fairly quiet and magnifying the footsteps much more.

"Nearest town should be about a twenty minute walk from here if the map I was looking at earlier was up to date." Cass says. As long as she had her sword on her person then she had no qualms with walking after dark. Aside from that one brigand and that shopkeep, most people seemed to be wary of picking a fight with an armed individual.
