Lockian was surprised by the sudden statement, but at this point he couldn't help himself. All his life he had been so closemouthed to everyone about himself that now he wished someone else knew, ''ya, I just...'', he paused trying to gather his thoughts together, not even noticing the rain nor its cooling effect, ''in short,'' he finally said, ''I miss my father, he was really the only one who cared for me, well... I was after all the only boy of nine children,'' he said with a wry face, ''but ever since-,'' he glared out to the harbor as if he would strangle it if possible, ''ever since his arrival things became different.'' He sighed, ''in conclusion, I'm naught but a poor innkeeper's help,'' he didn't know why he told Cassidy these things but he had held his feelings in so long that it actually felt good just to say them out loud.

"I'm sorry. That has to be rough." Cass says, following his gaze out to the harbor. She was honestly a bit surprised that he had actually opened up like that. She hadn't been expecting that, but maybe that was just because she wouldn't have been so forthcoming with anything weighting her own mind. Perhaps most people were more open than she was. Granted, there wasn't much she could say or do in the way of comfort, or at least not that she was aware of. Perhaps that had never been one of her strong suits. But hopefully just having someone to listen while he got it off his chest would help. If not, well at least she had tired she supposed. She still wasn't sure exactly what or who this 'king of the undertow' was, but now didn't seem like the right time to press for such answers. She would likely find out eventually in any case. For now, there were other matters she had to focus on.

Lockian looked at Cassidy with a grateful smile, it really was nice to let it out to someone, he walked in contemplative silence for a while, his mood had lightened up considerably but as a general rule he wasn't ever one who could stay in a depressed state for long. Suddenly feeling the wetness beginning to pour from his hair and run down his face he looked up, ''great goodness, its begun raining,'' he exclaimed, ''we should hurry before we become completely soaked!'' He began to pick up his pace towards the tavern, the warm yellow windows of which he could partially see through the gathering mist of rain.

"It's been raining for a bit... I suppose it was only a matter of time before it picked up." Cass says, glancing up at the sky as a clap of thunder booms in the distance. Though truth be told, she wasn't really bothered by it. They were going to get soaked one way or another, the rain was coming down in sheets, to the point where one could only partially see the warm glow of the tavern ahead of them. At least there was a fire inside the inn. They could dry off beside it, or head upstairs for a change of clothes. They were in for quite the storm it seemed. The sea hadn't been all that calm this morning as the clouds had begun to roll in. But by now it was bound to be too rough for any ships to be out on the water, assuming there were any to begin with given the state the town seemed to be in she mused.

Lockian reveled in the sound of thunder and rain, not in same some did where it gave them adventurous inspiration or the calm feeling of wanting to sit beside a fire and read, not that a fire didn't seem good to him at the moment. No, the sound of storms always brought his mind back to the sea. There was only one time when he had been in a storm out at sea, he had been a young lad at the time, hardly five less of a score, and was devoid at the time of any sense of danger. This time he recalled the memory with a smile, the wind whipping him back and forth, his whole body soaked in salt water, all the while just barely keeping his footing upon the heaving deck. He came back to himself upon reaching the door and, after maneuvering the things he was carrying, opened the door to allow Cassidy inside.

"Thank you," Cass says, stepping through the open door and off to the side to glance out the window. It was really coming down out there, and the wind was starting to howl. They'd probably be shut inside for a bit, at least until the worst of the storm had passed them by. Her short black hair was soaked through, as were her tunic and the turtleneck she wore. Her gloves too for that matter. But the worst that could come from that was catching a chill. And they were inside now in any case. A fire was burning in the hearth, filling the room with a gentle warmth, very different from the biting cold rain outside. With how suddenly it came upon them, there was always the chance that it would pass just as quickly. Or it could linger in the area. Time would tell she supposed.

Lockian followed Cassidy inside the tavern and closed the door behind him with a push of his foot, he dispelled some of the cold with a few shivers, ''hmm rather sudden,'' he said to himself glancing at the window nearest to him, ''suppose its the time of year for it,'' he shrugged. ''You would like this in your room,'' he asked referring to the armor. Lockian looked through the window a second time, definitely didn't show any sign of letting up at the moment but it was hard to tell with these premature fall storms. World's getting ready for the cold, he thought to himself rather glumly, he wasn't one who looked forward to that weather, but then again there was no stopping it so therefore why think about it.

"Few more months.. and it'll be snow." Cass says, her mismatched gaze looking out the window. The cold weather made her right arm ache, scar tissue could be unfortunately sensitive to changes like that and it seemed like burn scars could be especially sensitive. Of course, the soaked fabric of her gloves probably weren't helping matters. But she was content to ignore it for the time being. Maybe content wasn't quite the right word, she was more resigned to just ignoring it alongside any other aches or pains. It would only get worse as winter drew nearer she mused. And she didn't even know what had left her arm in that state. She nods slightly, reaching into her pocket to pull out her room key. "That would probably be the best place for it. Too high of a chance of it being stolen down here" she says, turning to head towards the staircase. She'd need to put both the armor and clothing away, so now was probably a good time to head up.

Lockian made a 'I know what you mean' expression, to many a time had a careless traveler left his baggage in the common room and come back a few minutes later to find it gone. He followed Cassidy up the stairs, and once she entered her room he remained just outside her door until she would come back and retrieve her things from him. He could hear the rain a lot better here, and also noticed the distinct sound of drips from an indoor leak, hmm that'll have to be remedied. Great, he thought suddenly, Grettir is going to be a mess. The wolfhound had a great love for water which could be at times annoying, but Lockian had already despaired of trying to teach that dog manners, he was just too smart.

Cass leaves the door ajar behind herself as she steps inside to settle the portion of her armor that she was carrying. Thankfully water wouldn't seep into treated leather, so it wasn't soaked all the way through like the rest of the clothing she had bought. She'd have to hang it out in the room to air dry, since hanging it up outside obviously wasn't an option right now. Once she had it all set down on the desk, she'd worry about hanging it up later, she returns to the doorway to gather the remainder of her belongings from Lockian. "Thanks again, I really appreciate the help" she says as she takes it back. She would have managed carrying it all, but it wouldn't have helped her already sore right arm. It had been sweet of him to offer to help with that, especially since he had no way of knowing there was anything off about her arm. She had been wearing her gloves and long sleeves any time she was around him, and for all he knew she had always been left handed. For all she knew, that very well could be the case, since she had no memory of how her arm even ended up in this state.

''No problem,'' Lockian responded before turning back to his room to put on a dry set of clothing. It certainly would not do for him to get sick, for one thing the doctor bills were outrageously out priced, and another reason was because he flat disliked physicians and most generally went out of his was to avoid them. Opening his room door, he entered and closed it again behind him. Putting away his purchases from earlier, he untied his hair and dried it with a cloth, afterwards allowing it to hang limply down his neck. After exchanging his pants and woolen shirt with a dry set and throwing on a short jerkin, he took out his dirk from its red sheath and inspected the sheath for water damage, he wasn't exactly sure if it was water tempered but since it was probably the nicest thing he owned he took care to keep it well. Fortunately for him though it seemed alright. After belting it on he made his way downstairs to see if he could get a spot near the fire.

Once Lockian had left, Cass shuts the door to her room so that she could go ahead and get changed into something dry. She removes her soaked gloves, setting them aside to dry. She'd have to forgo them for now, but she wore them more so that she didn't have to look at her arm than to hide the seemingly long since healed wound from others. After taking her gloves off, she changes into a dry sweater and trousers before busying herself about hanging up everything in various places in the room to dry. She leaves her sword by the bed and slips her room key into her pocket before exiting her room. She makes her way downstairs, figuring that the fire was probably the best place to be at the moment. It would be warm there, and when it was this chilly and wet outside, warmth could be very inviting.

Lockian sat down near the fire, just then Grettir bounded up soaking from head to toe. Lockian glanced back at the fully shut door, how does that dog do it, he mused. Grettir brought his huge body up near Lockian, ''oh no you don't,'' he said with a hidden smile, ''if you want pats you got to get dried first, i'm not going to touch you till you do.'' The wolfhound let out a sort of grumbling whine and stretched himself by the fire, but as if in rebellion, laid his wet head on Lockian's foot. He rolled his eyes then saw Cassidy approaching and motioned for her to take a chair not far away, ''seems like it'll be a while till it finishes,'' he said referring to the storm.

"Certainly seems like it. But at least it's mostly dry in here, aside from a leak here and there." Cass says, taking a seat in the armchair Lockian had gestured towards. Aside from her boots, which were still wet, the rest of her outfit was dry. And she could live with the wet boots. Leaning forward in the chair slightly, she holds her hands out towards the fire. Hopefully the warmth would help some. "With how quickly that storm moved in, I would have thought it would pass through quickly too. But it looks like it's settling in nicely" she says. There was no telling how long the rain would last, but until then they would just have to stay put. Unless they wanted to get soaked again. She decidedly did not.

''Quiet true,'' Lockian said staring into the flames, absentmindedly he leaned down to scratch Grettir's still damp head. The dog looked up at him with what could have passed as an expression of triumph, but of course he was just a dog after all. Realizing what he was doing Lockian leaned back again and shot his dog a look. Grettir merely began panting. Lockian purposefully turned his attention away from the wolfhound to Cassidy suddenly seeing her scar, ''that is a pretty wound you've got there,'' he said rising an eyebrow, he wondered at what happened to have caused such bad scaring.
