Sugar felt someone nuzzling her gently and she slowly stopped mumbling as she fell asleep once more. Knowing all to well that it was Galmur calming her down

Galmúr smiled softly as his young friend calmed, and he turned carefully making his way back out and glancing over to Artemis to make sure she hadn't awakened before returning to his post. Through the night he attempted to keep his vigilance, but he did keep dozing off, a half hour there, ten minutes here, an hour there... but each time he awakened and doubled his watch, ears pricked and eyes wide as he stared at the forever silent trees.
An hour before sunset, he suddenly jerked awake from where he'd fallen asleep an hour ago, resting against a sturdy oak. Blinking his eyes he stretched and shook his mane, glancing down first to check on Artemis, then over to the cave, which was silent, then back to the forest. The birds were just beginning to awake, and he could hear their calls echoing through the mist which had fallen over the land during the night. He was about to resume his watch, when the fog caused him to realize something vital. They didn't have a source of water. For a few moments he stayed where he was, uncertain if it was safe to leave. But as it wasn't even sunrise yet and surely the two fillies would stay safely asleep until then. With another shake of his mane he stepped into the mist, ears and nose tuned for water. The minutes dragged on as he quickened his search, cantering through the trees and emerging out on the plains, only to turn and go a new direction, knowing that there had to be a water source somewhere. Half an hour past... then five more minutes... then ten more minutes. He was beginning to understand why, when his old herd had found water, they always stopped and stayed there for quite a long time. Finally, knowing he was straying too far from the cave to be safe, he reluctantly turned, ready to head back. A zephyr of wind suddenly tickled his nostrils and he scented deeply, instinctively, and then he smiled gratefully. Water. He could smell it. Taking a moment to get his bearings, and figure out where the scent was originating, he took off at a canter. A few seconds later he could hear the water as well, and then he burst through the trees, sliding to a halt in front of a beautiful crystal clear stream, rushing swiftly over the mud and rocks. For a quick moment he dipped his nose to the water, taking a few swift gulps before turning and leaping back into the forest, heading for the cave just as the sun brushed the tops of the trees.

Artemis woke to the golden sun playing across her face, she stood quickly and trotted around a bit to stretch her legs. Suddenly she felt that something was missing, looking around she suddenly saw... nothing, Galmúr was gone! She was just about to plunge into the forest in search of him, but at the last moment remembered Sugar, still asleep in the cave. She couldn't just leave her. Artemis began pacing back and forth across the cave entrance. Where could he be, what happened to him? She slowed suddenly, Galmúr would not abandon them he would return, she trusted her friends.

Sugar's head shot up. "MOM!" She screeched, breathing heavily as she looked around, tears streaming down her face. Where was she...where was her mother? Sugar wondered

Galmúr frowned to himself as he saw the sun rising quickly in the sky. As it began stretching over the ground, he sped up, leaping over bushes as he raced for the cave. He knew that if Artemis or Sugar woke up and didn't find him there, they'd most likely panic, and he didn't blame them. A few minutes later, he saw the familiar opening up ahead, and put on a burst of speed, stretching out lower as he emerged from the trees and slid to a halt a few yards from the cave. Shaking out his mane, he walked forward, hoping he hadn't been missed.

At Sugar's scream Artemis rushed to the cave entrance, ''Sugar,'' she called, loathe to enter the cave, ''Sugar come out here please.''

Sugar stood up on her shaky legs and walked towards Artemis. When she reached her, she flopped down on the ground. "where's Galmur?" she asked, looking around

Galmúr walked out from the forest behind the cave just as he heard sugar's trembling voice. "Hey, I'm right here!" he said with a cheerful smile as he broke into a trot until he reached the group, smiling at them both. "Sorry if I scared you, I was just out looking for water" he said, nuzzling Artemis then Sugar in greeting.

Artemis heaved an inward sigh of relief, she ran up to greet him, ''did you find any?'' she asked ignoring the first part of his sentence, not wanting to say she had been worried.

Sugar looked up, the remnants of her dream still lingering in her mind. "ooo...water" she said, standing up and giving herself an embarrassed shake

Galmúr chuckled at Sugar's sudden response, then looked over to Artemis again "Yes, in fact, I did!! There's quite a nice large stream just a little ways away" he answered with a smile at her sensible approach to life.

''Then we should go,'' Artemis said looking at Galmúr for direction, ''you ready Sugar?''

Sugar was a little lost in thought when Artemis spoke. “Yep!” She said cheerfully. “I need real water, and not rain water” she said as she followed her friends

Galmúr smiled at Sugar as she said that "Oh yes, this is definitely real water" he assured her, then quickly trotted into the woods, picking up a light canter so Sugar could keep up as they headed towards the stream.
A few minutes later, he slowed and stepped through the trees as the glittering stream appeared before them. "Here we are, plenty for everyone" he said, dipping his own muzzle down to the water as well, since he hadn't drank much as he'd been eager to return.

Sugar's thoughtful expression was not lost to Artemis, after she had drank the fresh water gratefully and looked at their beautiful surroundings she asked, ''whats on your mind Sugar?''
