Nala suddenly wanted to feel the grass as she ran through it. So, she jumped down from her cave, and began running through the tall grass. Only to stop when she saw the tiger once more...sleeping on a rock. Nala sighed. What she had said, was true. Nala believed that she and that tiger weren't that different...but as she was sleeping, Nala needed to figure out a way to tell her to find her. But how? Nala thought for a second. Then an idea popped into her head. "I could either scratch the tree, or leave a thing of grass right beside her." Nala said to herself. "why not both" she said, padding over, and scratching the tree before she leaned down and picked up a few blades of grass and left it on the rock beside the tiger. Then, she turned, and ran back through the grass and towards her cave, leaping onto the top in a swift jump.

When Osaraka opened her eyes again, she noticed a scratch maark on the tree. She jumped up, looking around her. This was bad, she could have been killed. She mentally reproached herself for her lack of attentiveness. She then noticed a patch of grass lying next to her. "That had not been there.", she told herself, then she noticed a trail leading through the high grass. She slowly followed it, preparing for an attack. To her surprise, she found something like a cave, and the scent of lion was all over it. Osaraka decided not to inspect it further, but she lurked in the shadow of a tree, should anyone decide to go in or out. That way, she could have time for flight, or fight, and she wouldn't be on the receiving end of an attack.

Nala had just finished drinking from the stream, and was padding back to her cave. She smiled at the feeling of the grass touching her pelt. "oh that's always the best feeling" she said to herself as she padded through the last bit of grass that covered the entrance, slipping inside her cool and shadowy cave. She sighed. "maybe the tiger didn't get my message" she muttered to herself, beginning to groom her pelt. She sighed. "I was stupid to think she would actually come, even if she did" Nala said, as she stood up, and padded out of her cave, turning the corner to leap to the top of her cave so she could rest in the sun.

Osaraka had half begun to dose off, when she noticed the lioness coming back from her drink. "It WAS her!", Osaraka thought to herself, and prepared to go away, when the lioness stepped out of her den again. Osarak lay perfectly still. Still the lioness approached, until she was almost standing on top of Osaraka. Osaraka held her breath and took care not to move a muscle.

Nala felt her paws touch something. She looked down, and saw a tail. She turned. Her eyes brightened. "You came!" Nala said, sitting down and curling her tail around her paws. "I...I was hoping you would" Nala said as she looked at the tiger. Then she looked down at her paws, unsure of what to say. "I'm sorry that Simba killed your mother" She said. "but to be fair, I didn't even know who he was until a year ago" Nala said as she looked at the tiger.

Osaraka felt total surprise at Nala's actions. She slowly backed more into the safety of the shadow. "It was a long time ago.", she said bitterly, not knowing herself why she was doing it. "He probably doesn't even remember it. Why should you care if I came?", she asked half suspiciously. "What made you think I'd come?"

"Well...you see...what I said yesterday.." Nala said. "We really aren't that different" she said. "and...i was the one who left that trail of grass and scratched the tree" Nala said. "my cave is quite shadowy, if you want, we can talk in there...or we don't really even have to talk at all" She said. "But I just think you should know, that I don't like tigers because...well...I....I got attacked by one when I was little." she said, as memories flooded back into her mind. She shook away the thoughts, and looked at the tiger.

Osaraka thought Nala's offer over a while. She wasn't sure what to do now. After all, Nala's offer could be a trap. "I see.", she said, trying to seem unwary. "That's not surprising. Most tigers I've met were spiteful creatures. To outsiders, at least.", she added. Thinking back, she could remember that most tiger's she'd known hadn't been too friendly to outsiders. Even her own mother had warned her against lions. She decided to trust Nala, so she shrugged. "Yeah, sure, we can talk."

Nala almost...smiled, before she stood up, and lead the way inside her den. She jumped off the rock and padded through the grass, settling down on her bed, and looking at the tiger. "so...what's your name?" Nala asked, as she shifted on her paws. She had never trusted a tiger...so why was she just willingly letting this one into her cave all together? Nala wondered.

Osaraka slowly followed Nala inside, scanning the den for possible attackers, before letting herself down in a semi relaxed position. "My name is Osaraka.", she said slowly. "I think I know yours already... It's Nala, isn't it?", she asked, feeling not too sure of herself.

Nala nodded. "yea" she said. "so...you already know about what happened to me. Why don't you tell me about yourself?" Nala asked. "but no pressure!" She said, smiling a bit and beginning to feel...some what...comfortable. "ya know...your the first tiger...I've really actually let into my den...or talked to in general" she said. "Oh and by the way, I love your coat coloring!" she said. "It's so unique! and Special!" she said. "did one of your parents have that coloring?"

Osaraka lay still for a second as Nala began talking. Ah yes, she supposed she would end up telling Nala about herself. She decided she would, but she involuntarily drew together at the mentioning of her colorings. "You like them?", she asked, believing she had heard Nala wrong. "No, I don't think they did. I was the only one who had this coloration. My father was ashamed of it.", she said, bitterly. "Only my mother didn't mind it. But she got killed one day when she was out hunting. There's not much more to tell, I suppose. After she died I ran away. I didn't want to stay with a lot of people I knew despised me. I've been living by myself ever since, sometimes here, sometimes there. I usually keep to the shadows." She decided not to tell about her fear of water. Telling her story was ok, but exposing weaknesses... that was different. "That's all there is to me, really,", she said. "What's your story? And wont the others in your pride be angry with you for housing a tiger?"

"Oh, yes I love your markings!" Nala said. Growling slightly as she heard the tigers father didn't like them. "How dare he!" she said. "They make you special, Osaraka." Nala said smiling. "oh...my story...well...." she stopped. Her story...was kind of dark. "My story is kind of dark" Nala said. "I was the only to live out of my mothers cubs" Nala said. "I was born on a freezing night in late winter" she said. "all my siblings basically froze to death, but me, both my parents knew I was strong" she said. "that's why they named me Nala" she said. "It means queen, and successful." Nala said. "Apparently my parents believed I would be successful, so they named me Nala" she said. "then came the day I was attacked" Nala said, as she looked at her paws. "I...I almost died. My mother tried to protect me, but nothing she did worked. Eventually, the pride saved my life." Nala said. "after that day, I stuck to my mothers side like glue" Nala said. "but when she and my father died in...in a rain storm...I ran" she said. "Eventually, I found Simba and his pride. But I had told him that I didn't prefer to live in a pride, so he said I could live near them, and join them if I ever needed to" she said. "I prefer being alone though. I know the other lions would love it if I joined them, but I just sometimes feel I can't after what happened when I was little" Nala said

Osaraka thought a while. It occurred to her that Nala also didn't have a pleasant past. Just like her. People with unpleasant pasts rarely trusted other people. Like her. So why was Nala trusting her? Her mind raced. Why was she trusting Nala? She didn't know. "Understandable.", she responded. "I probably would have done the same myself. I knew plenty of tigers that would attack young ones for spite. As to my colorations... Their the reason I was an out-cast, so you understand I am not particularly fond of them." After remaining silent for a while, she asked," Why do you trust me? How do you know I'm not lying, or planning to kill you? Amongst the others, I was known as a liar and a backstabber. What makes you think I'm trustworthy." She bit her tounge after saying that. That had been stupid, but she was genuinely curious as to the answers.

Nala blinked. Well she was getting right to the point. Nala sighed. "Because..." she stopped. "one, you wouldn't have come if you were planning on killing me, two, I think you're trustworthy...because we both have the same kind of background, and three, I really just want a friend" Nala said, with another sigh. "Besides Simba, none of the other lions like me" she said. "none of them are my friends, not even Simba. He lets me in his pride, but that doesn't make me his friend" Nala said. "and when I saw you, well I hated you...at first" she said. "but now..." she stopped, and shifted her paws.
